Summer '07 Mix CD thread?
« on: 17 Jul 2007, 09:58 »

I ran a search in the last couple of months and couldn't find anything, so sorry if this is a dupe.

This might seem a bit redundant given the Sendspace thread up top (you kids with your mp3s and rock'n'roll 8-track tapes) but I was wondering if anyone would be interested in setting up another mix swap, as I know personally that I've gotten into quite a few quality bands through CDs I've received from here; and hell, they're fun to make too.

Sign up in a post below if you're interested in participating. These things never run perfectly smoothly because of computer and real-life issues, but please don't do a hit-and-run and sign up, get paired with someone, then never show your face again!

No time limit as of yet, we'll see how quickly people hop on this before setting a deadline for signin' up. Will update the first post every day or two with the list of participants.

Go!

We haven't done one of these for a while.

In fact last time Storm and I were going to send one to each other and we never did. Because we were both pretty busy/lazy.

But I will totally get one out there.

Have you thought about how we find out who sends who a cd? (Partners or random list or what.) Just curious!

The partners system works better. The last mix exchange I was involved in worked on the partner system, and I got my mix, and the guy got his. Then again, we traded them in person.
The first mix exchange happened here that I was involved in was a random 'pass it on' system, it was a disaster. People complaining about not receiving their mixes all over the place.

So I guess we look for partners now. Just a heads up, the last 5 gigs of music I downloaded was out of print.

When I move out of my parents' house it won't be weird for me to get random packages. If you want to, we can finally do that exchange then.

Now listen here.

I'd love to do something like this but I've been fucked over twice consecuitively as far as someone to send a CD to and someone to receive a CD from.

Now, I live in England and I'm mostly broke, so sending to someone else English would be beneficial to me. However I have no problem who sends the CD to me.

So are we going to go out and pair ourselves up by our own choice or are we going to have some kind of fun random drawing at some point?

As a newbie, I'd prefer the latter. Unless somebody wants to take a flyer on meh.

I've found a partner I'm happy with (it's khar), and I can think of a million reasons why the partner system works better.

In the last exchange, you could either choose your partner or wait for the OP to pair you with somebody. That system worked well.

If you have a partner you found on your own, post their username.
If you're waiting to be paired up, say so.
If you have restictions on where you can mail to then say so.

Amok, I'l help you partner everybody up if it's too daunting? I have a LOT of free time on my hands.

I suggested 'Beginning, Middle and End' as a theme, because it's vague enough to do anything with, but is still a theme.

Give your mix a clearly defined beginning, middle and end.

Aye, that'd be nice, cheers. Give it a week or two for everyone who wants in to see this, then we'll look into pairing up people who wanna do it randomly.

I favor random partners (minus those who want to partner up with someone in their own country, which is understandable). Also, I don't mind sending it out of the US, if that's important. I may or may not have a theme. We'll see.

I am game for a random partner. If you're pairing yourselves, you don't really need the mix exchange organization or anything, as I see it.
Theme-wise, I don't mind either way.

Mine's looking like it's going to be 24 tracks, representing a day. One track for each hour. It's not working out as well as I suspected... I may just do it as my Summer Days and Summer Nights disc instead.

I've decided it's going to be in a series of suites, songs edited together, instead, representing various phases of a 24 hour period. Dunno how many discs it'll end up being

Trading cds through the mail eh?  Reminds me of when I started to dabble in bootleg trading, then I ran out of cash and cds.    Alright I'm up for it, just gotta go out and buy some more blanks.  I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in the music I listen to though.  And since no one here really knows me I'll take any partner, preferably within the US, but not a requirement.  If you'd actually care to see what I listen to: My account on RYM

I too would prefer a U.S. partner if possible. It's not totally essential but it would help. I had to take a week off of work b/c one of the little kids at camp gave me some virus so I lost a lot of money that I sorta already spent. Anyway, the less in postage the better.

So if i was able to do that would i be able to participate?

Sure, a cassette works just as well if you package it up nicely. It can work better if you do it right due to the 'double sides' thing. I considered making a cassette for this one just because I thought it'd be fun, but since I'm making the playlist on iTunes it'd be easier to just put it to disc.

Well, the point of this is that is it nice to have something physical that was made with love and attention or something. We've had a few sendspace threads for mixes uploaded to the internet, you should be able to find them with the search function.
