I also need hair advice! I really wanna cut it, either shorter or really short, because I'm sick and tired of this long hair, but I cannot seem to find any styles I think would look decent on me, because my face is weird (esp. in profile). I need something that either requires zero styling or something that requires easy styling that I can learn quickly (I've had this long hair for like 8-9 years, and have about zero experience with doing anything to hair). Also, I don't want to color it, because my natural color is about the only thing about it I like.

Pre-drying, that shows length: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/mariasha/Bilde255.jpg
The way it usually hangs: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/mariasha/Bilde252.jpg

Soo.. Any suggestions?

Get something with layers Ladybug, maybe shoulder length or a little longer to start with, you can always go shorter later if you think you can handle it.

Squawk, I have no idea what to suggest.  An angled bob maybe?

So my hair has been boring for like my entire life now. Give me something fun to do.

I would say you have the perfect face for bangs, and maybe cut the rest to about half of its length right now.
You have beautiful hair!

Recently, I dyed my hair black and had it styled with an elvis-esque quiff that left the back and sides short and all the hair on top long. Unfortunately, this kind of quiff is very high maintenance and I was thinking of cutting my hair either really really short, or just quite short, or quite short but with a long fringe... I am not really sure.

All advice is very welcome!

Dan, love, if you get a mohawk i will love you forever.

With dark hair, it's a lot of work to dye. I've done semi-permanent, permanent, peroxide and foils/highlights.

You should dye it, everyone has to try it some time. I'd avoid bleach and peroxide - it's high maintenance and kills your hair - and regrowth sucks on dark hair.

I don't know whether i should go lighter or not. Reddy-brown or chestnut or something? Also, not sure if I still like my fringe.

Honestly, I don't know if there is a better hairstyle for you headshape than the quiff.

Dear Ladybug,

You would look even cuter with a side part, a long swoopy fringe, and long layers slightly lower than your shoulders. It's very low-maintenence since it looks like you have pretty naturally straight hair, plus the fringe will highlight your badass high cheekbones, especially if you usually tuck your hair behind your ears. It might be annoying when you're bending over to have it in your face, but you get used to it suprisingly quick.

Miss Squawk, the squawkiest squawk,

Pull a Rihanna/Victoria Beckham-it's pretty sassy but I think you could pull it off really well!

Roddy,
What do you do that's super high-maintenence? You could probably get away with just putting a little pomade in then DONE!

ah but with the sides short, you have to comb and re-comb it or it looks bedraggled and then you use too much pomade and it looks greasy and there is no way it will look good in the morning if you have to sleep at someone else's house.

oh, and it is very thick hair, like a monkey's, so the long bit on top at the back is getting really silly-looking.

Anna - spunky and short all the way with an angled fringe!

Rod - really short on the sides with it slightly longer at the front and top - but short enough that you can spike it up a bit.

I'm making an attempt to look employable you guys! Starting after this thread.

Here is me now:

My hair is a mess, ten inches at it's longest point, I haven't slept properly in weeks and I haven't seen sunlight in even longer. Just about all my clothing is black. My hair is brown, sometimes dark, sometimes very light, my skin is off-white and my eyes are a sharp blue. You just would NOT hire me.

Tell me how to look employable/smart/attractive/better/

I'm willing to cut my hair, dye my hair, buy a new wardrobe and get plastic surgery. GO.

Oh yeah, and Anna...get bangs! You'd look great.

Darryl here is what you do when you read this:

1. Do 10 push ups and 10 sit ups.
2. Go outside for one hour, walk around, climb trees, etc.
3. Get out of breath by running or whatever.
4. Wait 15 minutes, repeat step 3.
5. Repeat step 4.
6. At 11pm go to sleep. Set your alarm for 6am.
7. Wake up, get straight out of bed and do 20 push ups and 20 sit ups.
8. Have a shower.
9. Eat breakfast.
10. FACE THE DAY AHEAD.

Trim the chops up a bit neater, and mess with the front a bit. I think you've got essentially something which works for you, you just need to put a little more effort into it.
The look I'm trying to describe is pretty much like this, minus the silly eyebrow. Cute girl next to him/you is up to you!

Uh huh to everything but the fake. (It's gotta be real or not at all.)

But yeah, listen to red. Trim up the chops, get your hair trimmed and the sides a bit shorter, some wax or whatever is good for your hair, and you're good to go.

Bryan, you don't need it cut shorter. You just need bits cut out of it so it doesn't start to look like a mushroom. You do look better with your hair longer. If I were in your position, I'd print one of the pictures that Amanda posted, take it to a decent hairdresser and show it to them. And remember, hair products are your friend!

Gene: Keep your hair long, lose some of the volume, lose some of the length at the back. I think. I'm not a girl, so you shouldn't listen to me, obviously. I just think that longer works in your favour.

Unosuke: Listen to them!

Dan: Cheers, doing it. Only, I'm going to start at 40 of each, is that okay? That doesn't help me with my hair though.

How do I do this? With the help of a haircut? Hair product? Maintenance?

Which exactly?

Take volume away from the back by trimming the length and adding layers. Products only seem to work if you want to increase volume, or make your hair look flat. Flat hair isn't a good look for anybody.

40 is fine if you can handle it comfortably.  I don't know how strong or in shape you are so I can't judge that.  I would strongly recommend NOT maxing out (or coming anywhere close to it) on your first day, though.  If you max out, you'll be too sore to do any pushups at all the next day, or the day after that, and it will be very easy for it to end up being a one-time thing that doesn't help you at all.  If you start well within your abilities, though, and increase very gradually, you'll be able to keep doing them every day until in the long run you can do far more than you ever thought.

I know this has nothing to do with hair, sorry. [/hijack]

Yeah dude, 40 push-ups is beast for someone who hasn't worked out in a long time/ever and 40 sit-ups will leave you so sore, you won't have the ability (or desire) to do any physical activity for the next few days.
