I don't listen to them actively, but I do like them when they come up on pandora, they seem to have some power metal influences as well, is that just me?

I used to listen to pandora a lot, problem was it started advertising between songs and it gave you very limited skips. Also it gave you very very strange results, I typed in Cannibal Corpse I got Robie Williams....

The limited skips thing is what really killed it for me. Even when I'm listening to my own collection of music, I skip a lot. If I'm not feeling a song, I'll skip until something jumps out to me. Having 5 skips an hour does not bode well.

Fellow Metalocalypse/Dethklok lovers out there:

Keep an eye out for tour dates near you. Dethklok is doing a new tour with Chimaira and Soilent Green. It looks to be 27 shows right now.

Got this information from a blog posted on their MySpace, so if you have it, you can the actual tour dates and locations there.

Advertisement between songs? I only notice them advertising that pandora music-fest thing, and that is just when you switch to a new channel, the only other advertisements are the ones around the actual player. I don't tend to skip much at all, just the more odious nu-metal and the very rare rap songs mixed in with my doom metal. I tend to listen to music as background for something else, I don't just sit down and listen to music.

How many metal bands have been named after Sabbath songs, do you think? Just wondering based on Spiral Architect, and I know of at least one other, name is at the tip of my tongue, but I can't think of it.

To be backwards, and answer the last question first, oh I agree probably mindless amounts, and to continue, by meaning cannibal corpse I would get some insane death metal and doom metal songs, just I would randomly get Robbie williams I got several of his songs and one spice girl song within 4 hours.

Also I find it nice to meet a like-minded soul regarding music, althouhg sometimes I listen to music to send me to sleep (Slow doom metal does me wonders), I find it quite relaxing but stimulating, it maintains my focus on topics. My friends disagree, they usually look at me and wonder how I can focus with someone screaming "Multiple counts of murder" in my ears.

Just as an extension, has anyone heard EVE online's 'Drone mission' music, just it is pretty rock/metal and i'm wondering where I could find it in my files.

The joke here is that these bands are not metal at all

"Flogging Molly"   and     "Against ME!"  Both quite similar to korpiklaani, not as up-beat or celtic but pretty good.

Whatever you do, don't listen to Searching For A Former Clarity or anything else recorded by Against Me! after that. I would also advise not reading any interviews with them, or reviews of their albums, or anything else which would admit of the existence of the current state of the band. Reinventing Axl Rose, that acoustic ep and As The Eternal Cowboy are great but their later offenses have spoiled even these records for me. Oh, it's probably worth noting that they're definitely not folk metal, I've never heard Korpiklaani though so they might sound similar nonetheless.

Probably to sum it up as short as possible, they make wonderful drinking music. (eg. Beer Beer, Wooden Pints, Hunting Song, Happy little Boozer are some of their songs) I decided on the two stated earlier because they seem to be similar in the fact they make me want to go drink.

Edit: Editting here because I don't want to spam the thread. Again im linking punk to korpiklaani because they both make me want to drink.

I think they went about it a good way, recommending things based on the feeling they create for them rather than the specific genre. After all, genre isn't always a big deal.

Well I mean im no expert on every song from all those bands but don't the majority of them Cookie monster /scream? Every song i've listened to of Korpiklaani its clean vocals (A bit gruff, but clean), so I would of thought they would be more in common with a bit of punk. Also to stretch a point further.

Man Of War, Hammerfall, Kamelot. they make me want to go drinking too. Not really much in common with Korpiklaani but some songs have similarities.

When I read Ensiferum, I couldn't remember if I had anything from them in my library,  when I checked, I noticed that I didn't, but I did have a couple of Empyrium albums in there, try that for folk metal. Later on they are more just neofolk, I guess, I don't listen to them too much, but I did like what I heard.

Don't really like Against ME! Flogging Molly's alright but my go-to band for raucous Celtic stuff is The Pogues.

Yeah the vocals are one of the salient things here. Cookie monster is fine, but what I'm really looking for is a similar, cleaner growl. Also, those are all bands I enjoy, but not for the same reason as Korpiklaani.

Will do. Thanks!

The band most similiar to Korpiklaani is probably Finntroll. Ensiferum, Glittertind, Turisas, Waylander (first album) and Folkearth are also reasonably good bets.

I reckon it could upset some people if they turned from a band with a female vocalist into one with a male vocalist.

But there are a bajaxjzzillion projects with female vox and distorted guitars that are less epic than Nightwish, but at least don't pretend to be metal.

I'll admit that some of the stuff leaning towards an operatic approach was quite intruiging, but on the rare occasion that the guitarist sang, he blew me away with the pure metal in his voice. If he sang, Nightwish would be less of metal's answer to womanpop and more metal's answer to nothing in particular because it would be so fucking metal.

I agree that it would be far better a band with the guitarist singing, but I believe they were mostly thinking about their existing fans when they got themselves a new female singer after Turunen left the band.

It'd be pretty cool if she went all Angela Gossow on our asses.

Nightwish would suddenly become good.

Wait... guitarist or bassist? I have heard the bassist sing, but not the guitarist. The bassist's vocals are very metal though.

And guys if you want to listen to an actual death metal band that has a lot of melodic content, just listen to Amon Amarth.

you are awesome!

seriously amon amarth is one of the better melodic DM bands. they have an un mistakeably kickass, unique rhythm section. not so many solos, but what are there are great. mostly though, i listen to them for their drummer, fredrik akkesson, i think is the name. check out the song "death in fire" to hear all that i am talking about. the singer has a great voice, in tha you can pick out nearly all that he is saying (not just "grug grug glrahahaggh!!!") and its always about some viking lore

cant go wrong!

I haven't listened to them, really. I haven't really heard any DM that has grabbed me, I have liked a lot more thrash and doom. I heard that their drumming was just pretty typical double-bass drumming.

Amon Amarth is great if you don't mind overuse of tremolo picking.

As far as MDM goes, I'll take Kalmah anyday - the black waltz was ridiculously good.
