Okay, upon further thinking even shitty metalcore is probably a step in the right direction, but what I'm really saying here is that I have no idea why the majority of the new thrash movement want to rape their influences so hard someone hold me please
oh come on the blackening was a step in the right direction

Yeah, but they'd already released Burn My Eyes, which is superior (mainly because they didn't try and be 'artistic'. Stop fucking around with soft breaks and stuff, Machine Head. You suck at it.

METAL BANDS SHOULD NEVER EVER CHANGE, THEY SHOULD NEVER MAKE MONEY OR GET POPULAR AND ONLY I SHOULD EVER KNOW THAT THEY EXIST, ALL BANDS SHOULD GO BACK TO WHEN THEY MADE "GOOD" MUSIC AND NEVER CHANGE OR GROW MUSICALLY.  ANY BAND THAT HAS EVER DONE THIS IS BORING AND STUPID AND SHOULD GO AWAY, AND YOU SHOULD TOTALLY LISTEN TO THIS OTHER BAND THATS MUCH BETTER BECAUSE THEY MAKE THE SAME TEN SONGS ON EVERY ALBUM AND NEVER CHANGE ONE BIT.  I WILL ALSO APPLY STUPID AND ARBITRARY LABELS TO BANDS BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE THEM SEEM DIFFERENT, AND THEN I CAN CALL PEOPLE STUPID FOR LISTENING TO THEM.

A side note: Metal Archives is run by hypocrites.

Also, I have no idea why people still give a damn about In Flames. They were never really even that good to begin with. Most of the darker power metal bands are more musically interesting and instrumentally heavier, anyway, which reminds me that Gothernberg's melodic "death metal" may as well be called "extreme power metal". Where the hell is the actual death metal?

Extreme power metal would be something like Children of Bodom. Seriously, if you can't see what's Death Metal about At The Gates or Edge of Sanity, you need to get your ears cleaned and do a remedial summer course at the School of Metal.

In Flames had more memorable melodies, vocals and was more accessible that the other big Gothenberg bands - that's why they were/are popular. It also delivered a form of Power Metal without the cheesiness and high pitched vocals.

Electric wizard are great.

And real death metal... Death, morbid angel, obituary, suffocation, incantation, deicide, vader, malevolent creation. And as for good new bands, necrophagist, cryptopsy, and brain drill are the only ones I can think of.

Anyone like behold..The arctopus? They are pretty cool. A bit repetitive though. I think I got them from the mediafire thread here..

Whats wrong with American metal?  Nile! Dying Fetus! Cephalic Carnage!

I dont know about you, but to me, the words "new band" is something that has been around for 4-5 years MAX, ie: 1-2 albums out.  Not "been around for 15+ years."

Cryptopsy - formed in 1992
Necrophagist - formed in 1992

Side note: saw Behemoth with Dimmu last night, got to talk to Nergal again briefly after the show, still one of the nicer guys out there, and not nearly as difficult to understand as Abbath and Horgh

You pretty much nailed what exactly is wrong with american metal.

Carcass are cool..So are behemoth and decapitated (I was going to mention them..). As for cryptopsy and necrophagist, whoops. But necrophagist still only have 3 albums, right?

Are we not going to mention black metal? I think it would be best if we didn't.

Just not black metal.

Like death metal has absolutely no elitism problems. Like most death metal bands are not poor clones of other death metal bands.

Sturgeon, Khar, Sturgeon. It isn't just Death and Black, though I can't say I know any bands I really like out of either of those two genres.

I don't really differentiate by country that the band comes from, if they make good music, I like them, may be a few exceptions. We already have two metric asstons of genres, do we really need to define by country as well?

This is at Khar's post on death metal, he and spluff were inconsiderate and posted while I was typing.

Death metal's stupidity problem is all joke bands, man. I can't remember the last time I listened to a death metal song that wasn't about civil rights, politics, mortality (is there a band named "Mortality"? There should be), religion or psychology.

I'd contribute to this conversation, but I spent all afternoon listening to Monster Magnet, Sleep, and Kyuss again while partaking in substances commonly associated with the genre.

So I'm in a good place right now, but not a very informative place. Also, making this post cracked me up for some reason.

I love it, an elitist stance by someone claiming most BM fans arent elitist.

I listen to metal, if that metal happens to come from the US, or Canada, or Sweden, or Poland, or the Ukraine, or Portugal, or Russia, or the fucking Faroe Islands, I really dont give a shit, a good band is a good band.  OH TEH NOES I HAVE TASTES OUTSIDE OF SOME SMALL SUBSET OF A GENRE, so what if I listen to American death (Nile, Cephalic Carnage, and Dying Fetus), or that I listen to some hardcore (Pro-Pain), that I listen to folk metal (Arkona, Tyr), whatever, its all fucking metal.  Trying to tell me some bullshit about how american metal sucks, or isnt up to par with Europe or whatever the fuck IS AN ELITIST STANCE.  The rest of the world has shitty bands too, America isn't unique in that aspect, nor is every band from the States shit, merely because of their country of origin.  Congrats, you are one of the troglodytes you spoke of.  Hypocritical much?

Yeah, he escaped in 2006, but then they caught him. He should be allowed to parole sometime soon though.

Just relax, dude.  Sarcasm is all over the place on these boards, especially when it comes to metal, because of the dead-serious mentality it has with its fans and its contributors.  And after awhile, e-Dong competitions get boring so we occasionally poke fun.

Yep, he escaped, stole a car, various supplies (GPS, map, that kinda stuff), a pistol, and an unloaded AG3 rifle. According to wikipedia, he escaped in 2003, though, he was denied parole in 2006. And he gets another chance this year. If I ever commit serious crimes, I need to make sure to do so in Norway.

In Norwegian terms, they threw the book at Varg. He got the maximum sentence allowable for an under 21 (he was 19 when he was convicted I believe, and I think under 18 when he did some of the crimes). He doesn't have to be released until 2015.

Also, lighten up dude, I wasn't saying American metal is all bad, but you guys have gotta take SOME flack for Cannibal Corpse and Metallica.

anyone else heard the new Origin album Antithesis? it's brilliant. www.myspace.com/origin666

also, the two albums so far in virgin black's Requiem series, Mezzo Forte and Fortissimo i'm a huge fan of aswell, symphonic gothic death/doom stuff. i suck at genres. www.myspace.com/virginblackofficial .

if you like sludgy stuff, The Ocean's new album, Precambrian is pretty darn good aswell. www.theoceancollective.com .

Still, that is much less of a punishment than someone would get here. He would have had longer than that for killing someone, even before the arson convictions. And of course, stealing an illegal weapon from the government is not good for you either. I wouldn't want to be stuck in jail for 21 years, but it sure beats 25-life or being put to death.

Cannibal Corpse isnt so much the problem (IMO) as the bajillion of Immolation clones that exist (or rather did), and I take absolutely no fucking credit for St. Anger one bit.  (Being a blues fan, I did enjoy Load / Re-Load, with the prominent exception of Unforgiven II, which I thought was terrible)
