Tronnocon D&D is a go: Details within!
« on: 13 Apr 2008, 00:24 »

Discussion was had a while back on playing D&D while the less nerdy folks went and watched sports or some shit. This is an official interest check.

It will probably be level ~10 or lower, because that's sort of middle-ground; but more discussion will be had later to iron it all out.

So anyway, If you're want to do a one-off dungeon, vote yes. If you would, but don't care, vote maybe. If you are willing to DM the game, send me a PM(if your name is ackblom12, I am talking to you). If enough interest is generated, this thread will be updated with levels and other assorted bullshit, at a date closer to the actual date of the trip.

pee ess: Mod-types, if you think this is better suited for the main tronnocon thread, feel free to lock this one up and tell me to put it there, or move it yourself.

Looks like tronnocon d&d is a go; It seems that ackblom12 will me our dm, possibly also playing. He'll post additional information later on, at some point, either int his thread, or in a new one if this one fades into the distance.

I'm all kinds of wanting this to happen. I'm warning you though that if I DM, I'm going to want to play 4th Edition.

I'm planning on dropping 3.x like a bad habit the moment my 4th ed books are in the mail.

You should also post when you vote so I know who wants what, shitdicks. Also, after talking to ackblom12, it looks like we'll be playing 3.x ed, because it's the system everyone would know.

I'm pretty sure that if you vote "yes" to playing d&d with people from the internet in a hostel room in canada, that it answers the second question just fine.

I vote yes, but I have recently discovered the joys of playing in a world the DM makes up as he goes. It is more just for the hell of it and smartass.

yeah, I think I ruined that for all my friends. We were doing that style at ren faire and I did something stupid, and my DM said "Roll all your dice for damage" because he didn't know that I had all my dice with me.. all 127 of them. No one gets to roll all their dice for damage ever again.

I vote yes, but I haven't played D&D since junior high, and that wasn't for very long. So I have none of the current edition stuff, and I'm not sure if I want to learn how to play or buy the Players handbook for just a one-off in Canada.

Boro, if you don't mind learning how to pay but just don't want to pay for a one-off, www.d20srd.org

It is a searchable copy of the system reference documents, it is missing some of the stuff like how you create your character, but it goes through just about everything else.

Chances are I will not be present when you guys are playing, though. It'll be summer and warm and that makes me want to frolic outdoors.

Does it involve frolicking outside? I guess you could do that if the bar had a patio big enough to frolic around in and in a certain state of drunkenness. But I'd rather keep my internal organs intact, so I'll frolic until it's time to drive everyone to the hospital.

First off, whoever is planning on playing needs to PM me and let me know so I can remember who is and isn't playing.

Alright, rules for the game and character creation!

- Core Books + Magic Item Compendium only (This includes Feats, Races, Magic Items & Classes)*

- Characters will receive 80 points to distribute between their attributes as you see fit

- Everyone will be starting at 10th level

- Everyone will start with 49,000 gp worth of equipment and gold

- Axes count as both Slashing and Bludgeoning damage in my games

- Barbarian has to be taken at 1st level. You can multi out of it and continue in it later, but to get Barbarian at all, you have to take it as your 1st level.

- Unless the creature is amorphous, incorporeal or the like they are NOT immune to criticals and Sneak Attacks.

- The feat "Point Blank Shot" does not exist. Fuck Point Blank Shot. Anything that requires PBS as a pre-req ignores PBS's existence.

- Rolling a 20 is an automatic Crit. If you have a crit range beyond 20, and you roll in the crit range but NOT a 20, you must confirm.

- Rolling a 1 to hit is an automatic miss. Unless circumstances make it hilarious, I will not punish you further.

*I might make exceptions for races that aren't in the core books and I'm not opposed to races that have adjusted levels, just ask first.

I'm thinking a more Hack n' Slash adventure with drinking game rules added. Things like...

- Roll a 20, take a shot
- Roll a 1, take 2 shots
- etc

As I remember and think up more I'll update. The most important thing right now is just for people to let me know they're playing via PM and if they have any character ideas yet.

See, Tommy? You can drink yourself to death and still play the D&D. But with that in mind, I think I've changed my mind. I'm more for the frollicking outside. However, chances are that I can still drop in and make drunken half-witty remarks and in general harass the players.

if i lived 2,500 miles away and wasn't going to toronto i would refer you to bryan's post because he put it better than i ever could. as it turns out i live an hour's bus ride from toronto, and am going, so really our situation isn't all that similar. but maybe in some ways it kind of is.

basically what i am trying to say is that even if i am a fatty no one wants to play catch with, it doesn't change the fact that you guys are still nerds.

someone play this character:

10 gnome druid 205 years old (venerable, -3str/dex/con, +3int/wis/cha)

str 10
dex 12
con 17
int 21
wis 21
cha 21

2 ability bonuses go to con and wis

Feats: Spell Focus (Conjuration), Wild Spell, Augment Summoning

items:
rod of metamagic empower spell lesser (9000gp)
monk's belt (13,000)
druid's vestments (3700)
amulet of health +4 (16000)
wand of cure moderate wounds (4500)

2800ish GP left over.

Animal Companion: Advanced Brown Bear (10 hit dice)

wild shape: combat -- polar bear. claw/claw/bite on full attack, claws 10ft, 27 str, +18 to grapple check

and there ya go. you wind up with

27 str, can cast spells while wildshaped
13 dex
22 con
21 int
22 wis
21 cha

then you can summon 1d3 brown bears each with 31 str and 23 sta with an average of 60 hitpoints and a +18 grapple check and surround a motherfucker in hurt. if you and your companion and each summoned animal make your full attack, you do 15 attacks each at roughly +13 to hit and do between 1d8+10(claw)x2 and 2d6+6(bite)

alright there ya go, one optimized character.

You have to take a shot every time you roll. There, that should solve everyone's problems rather quickly. Let's see how long you can stick to D&D when you've got a BAC of .39

Now, see, if we were going to play World of Darkness instead, I might be interested.
