Deadbeat Dan?

I usually play Ryu, Zangief or Blanka. I am ok with them

Put in as a joke of a char, Dan is actually pretty sick with some good combos and his knee hurricane kick thingy is slightly better than Ken's.

Selecting Dan isn't really much of a handicap vs. roughly half the cast now, which is pretty amazing considering that he's you know, Dan. Not that it matters with everyone and their uncle selecting Sagat.

Yeah man, I know what you mean - "Just because you beat me with a god tier doesn't make you good" etc. etc. Q_Q blah blah blah.

I don't use sagat, he is powerful but with most new players hella predictable so you can normally pick them apart.

True, but I think there's till that automatic reaction by some players of "Pfft, Dan?  This is going to be easy."

And the EX of that flying kick thing he does has pulled my ass out of the fire more times then I'd care to count.

Oh, yeah, there's definitely something to be said for a lack of familiarity with the character as well. So many people play Sagat that I feel really comfortable with exactly how far those damned Tiger Knees of his reach. People have whiffed those things by bare pixels against me before. Against Dan? Well, I've got a game plan, but I'm not exactly familiar enough with the guy where I feel like I can dodge bullets.

The thing is, though, that when you're playing better players, you can guarantee that they'll know whatever character you choose inside out, and it's then that the tier differences become so apparent.

Playing as Vega, if I make one mistake against Sagat I could very easily lose half my health, in contrast to me having to pull off about four combos to do the same thing back. This is even more true of Zangief, but that match is actually pretty easy as long as I'm on the ball.

Not that it matters, 'cause Vega is a yodeling Spaniard and therefore more epic than any other character.

I can hold my own against most Sagats pretty well with Ryu (I am a boring enough person that he's always been a favorite), but I get straight murdered when I pull out poor ol' Zangief. I love 'Gief and I can beat the tar out of most chars with him, but I've gotten plain murdered by some pretty mediocre Sagats with him. Also, it makes me feel kinda dirty that 3 of my favorite street fighter characters are apparently the top of the food chain in this one.

There are two types of people who play against Dan.

The people who think he's a complete pushover and get their asses kicked, and the people who actually treat him seriously and win properly.
And the fact that fans are listing him as "mid-tier" is somewhat disturbing for a joke character. And his Gadouken does actually look like something you'd bring home to meet your mother. Yahooey. And plus, you can't beat a character in a game that breaks the 4th wall every now and then.

Dan has a megataunt as a super special... Enough said.

But on another note, play SFIV for a few days then go back to 3rd strike.

SFIV makes you shit at the other SF games.

Yeah, I've never lost to a Dan, but that's 'cuz I play Ryu and you know, the dude is quite literally Ryu-lite. All I have to do is zone him out long enough to get a lead and then force him to trade blows and it's pretty much over before it began.

Oh, wait, that's how I beat practically every character. Never mind.

That is pretty much how 90% of my matches go, except I'm the guy spamming fireballs. In all honesty, my fights can get more complicated than that, but let's face it, sometimes all you really need is the fireball punishment game.

I lame people to death, I admit it. I have the scrubbiest looking playstyle ever, although I actually do have a few legit skills if you can get past the cheese. Not my fault if you can't hang with the hadoukens. Besides, it's kinda fun turning it on in the second and third rounds right when they think they have you figured out.

Fireballs is easy to get past with tictacs, even if it is sagat pumping out fireballs faster than ever before. Just once you close the gap be prepared to string em up in a sick combo or two.

The fireballs are just about denial, really. They are a relatively safe way to limit the ways your opponent can approach you; the threat of competent fireball use sets down some ground rules that my oponent must abide by before the match even truly begins; it's  like a "You must be this tall to ride" sign. As a Ryu player I absolutely need them to be effective, but it's not like I ever use them to really knock out anyone who's actually good, if that makes any sense.

Is why I like 3rd strike so much, parry them all then superartsspecial them in the grill.

You can do mostly the same thing with focus attacks in IV - but it'll take a little more skill. You'll have to dash cancel, and look out for EX fireballs.

Unless you're playing against Akuma, in which case you're pretty much shut down again.

Yeah, things like that is why I'm happy a good stiff wind can apparently dizzy Akuma and take out a quarter of his lifebar.

Try 1/3rd.

As an Akuma player, I wouldn't have it any other way. I stopped playing Ken and Ryu because they were boring. Akuma's "glass cannon" status is what makes him interesting to use.

You cannot focus cancel nearly as easily/quickly/well as you can parry, show me someone focusing through an ex hurricane kick like I can in 3rd strike, or Ryu's fireball special.

Just means it's harder to get past a barrage of fireballs while taking zero dmg.

Everyone I have talked to seems to think even at a high level of play SFIV is just the same combos and technique as at a low level of play, just done better. It's shit.

Third strike had so much more to offer, skill played a much bigger roll and there was a much larger selection of stuff to do from any given situation.

Stress Fighter IV just seems too... "Rinse repeat" with "dryu" and oh so volatile with inconsistencies, ex move priority for example, how many times have you done one only to be knocked out of the air by an uppercut? That shit would never happen in third strike.

So... go play Third Strike.

Sadly, my PS3 crapped out on me so I've got no SF4 access for a little while. Just as my Chun-Li was starting to get almost respectable. :(
