It's okay, Greenland is just "snow" and Iceland isn't even labeled.

The idea is gently amusing; and some of the translations are not what you'd expect, such as Vauxhall -> Opel, Mile End -> 2.4km Ende.  But OK, it's no big deal.

This blog
That link is no good, Elizzybeth.

Whoops.  Fixed.

That's a great site! I've just spent about 3 hours on it..it's really fascinating! Then again, I'm drawn to things like geography, politics, relations, culture, etc. Anyway, thanks much for the link.

Oh hey, this thread.

This thread is pretty old, Meg.  Generally we don't bring up things that are over a couple of weeks old unless there's something new & significant to add to them.

I really like how Canada is squished in the Tory map. Why is it that no one takes us seriously? hehe

I've always been a fan of the Kangnido Map made in Korea in 1402. It displays all of the Old World as reported by Asian explorers but grossly over-exaggerates the comparative size of China.

What the hell is in the middle of Africa?

It's the giant lake that was thought by explorers to exist in the centre of Africa before its interior was explored by foreigners.

It looks like when you start to handwrite a big-ass word on a piece of paper and you're too close to the margin, and you have to squish the letters really tiny to make it fit. And honestly, I can't help but wonder if that isn't exactly what happened.

Japan apparently does not exist either. Or maybe it's that little island in the bottom-right.
