Oh and also his good-natured but hilarious dissing of a guy who called out for "No Children" very early in the set:

"Yeah that's a great idea, 'No Children' as the third song. That's like going to a Bruce Springsteen concert and expecting him to play 'Glory Days' first."

(He played "No Children" in the first encore.)

Haha, when I saw him someone shouted freebird, and he started playing it. "to whomever just shouted that, if you didn't recognise that, than you sir, are a poser."

Guys, I saw These New Puritans tonight for free. They were alright. Lots of drum banging which was kinda cool, but a really short set with no opening act, I'm glad I didn't pay the 14 quid entry fee.

Going to see Mastodon and BTBAM this sunday.  Sucks that Baroness will no longer be there, but I am still hoping to pop many a boner

What happened to Baroness?

...and then their drummer passed out.

Although this would be a better ending to a good joke, it was the unfortunate ending to my Friday night as You Say Party! We Say Die!'s Devon Clifford fainted after just four songs. Dude was carried out on a stretcher and then I walked home. Blooo.

I'm pretty jealous.  I thoroughly enjoy Casiotone for the Painfully Alone

Freelance Whales in my local record store was awesome, if extremely over crowded (record store day last year was nowhere near this crowded when they had The Spinto Band playing).  I loved how they seemed to play a little game of musical chairs with their instruments between many songs.  I also love that all of them sung most of the lyrics (even if two of them were extra quiet about it).  It made a really nice vocal sound.

I also happened to catch a local band called "Diego Paulo" who are absolutely sweet.  When their new album drops in a month I'm totally buying it.

I was talking with him before their set. I feel fairly removed from the situation even though I was right there, but I can't get out of my head that I was hangin' out with a dude who is no longer alive.

I'm pretty jealous of this.  I passed the tickets by when they initially went on sale because I was short on funds and did not know if I'd like their new album.  Now said album has leaked and it's absolutely terrific and the tickets are all gone.   :-(  I even looked on ticketsnow/stubhub and the cheapest I found was $58 per, which I don't think I'd pay to see anyone.

  • This is my happening and it freaks me out!

Holy shit guys.

My best friend's family goes to the Jazz & Heritage Festival in New Orleans every year. This year, his sister can't go because she's swamped in schoolwork.

Which means that they have an extra ticket to the festival, an extra hotel room, and an extra round-trip plane ticket from NYC to NOLA, all of which he just offered me for free.

Holy shit.

Only problem is, the plane ticket might be non-transferable, so I'm going to have to cross my fingers while they barter with The Man to let me on board.

But if that works out I'm fucking going to Jazz Fest!

Yeah, I was looking at Porcupine Tree myself, but my wife didn't seem to thrilled about it so I didn't get tickets.   Maybe I'll go anyway.  My kid asked to go see Gwar there on the 18th of June.  Seems a shame to spray fake blood on such a nice venue, but whatever.     I'll also be down at the Canal Club this Friday because she's got a gig subbing for someone who couldn't make his own show.  Don't know the name of the band or when, just Friday in Richmond, I'll be watching her.

Nab, he's too busy tweeting about how videogames aren't art.

But I think they are art! Way to read, lameburger.

Actually I haven't been posting because after seeing a Mountain Goats show, my feeble attempts at stringing words together in sentences just end up with me feeling very inadequate indeed. The Dude Is A Raconteur. He Is The Raconteurest.

Also, the reports are true, John Darnielle is playing keyboards on stage and he is rocking that shit in all of the ways. They opened with 1 Samuel 15:23 (the opening track off of the most recent LP) and he was all standing hunched over the keyboard, one foot perched on the piano stool, swaying and jive and stabbing at the keys like a warlock over a boiling cauldron, grinning like a madman. He told many stories between songs and teased people with the prospect of playing "Dance Music" which is my favourite Mtn Gts song ever, but then he did not play thatm he played another song (something off of Tallahassee, I'm horrible with song titles). But it was OK because then he played it later. He is good like that. I had the most gigantic smile on my face the entire time, I'm sure I was a sight to see. Even during the incredibly depressing songs. Later on he spent a good half a verse singing directly to my girlfriend and I was quite jealous.

Also I saw Regina Spektor on Wednesday so now I am feeling extra inadequate! But also good because they were both amazing shows and I want to steal both Regina and Mr. Darnielle and make them my pets. I would love them forever.

Dead Meadow were rad.  Totally worth having to wait for another bus in the cold for like fifty minutes (bus broke down on the way home at 2 am)

got a t-shirt and the Three Kings double album on LP which came with a dvd and an address to legally download the album (which is a bit of a waste considering I downloaded it from here a few days ago, but still)

highlight of the show: hearing them play Sleepy Silver Door complete with massively extended soloing, and craziness on bass and drums.

Like, I don't ever remember seeing a band being so happy to be playing their music, and I think most people came out of that gig just feeling really happy.
