  • This is my happening and it freaks me out!

At the end of the month I've got Sigur Ros and Band of Horses. Also I just bought tickets for Patti Smith in October. Super psyched.

I love Patti Smith but the immediate response will always be "Damn, she's still alive?" in my head.

dalconnsuch, how were the Dandy Warhols? I'm looking forward to seeing them in September.

I caught Download Fest last weekend for $21 including hidden fees at the Gibson Amphitheater (thanks to $10 fan appreciation tickets from livenation)
Meaning I saw The Jesus and Mary Chain, Gang of Four, MuteMath, RJD2, Caribou, Mates of State, Kaki King, Yeasayer, M83, Tapes 'N Tapes, Datarock, and others in a 9 hour time span for the price of a normal show. I might add that I was in the pit. Great day.

And I decided to put a more fleshed out version of my list up... I tried to keep it to one show a day and one night per artist*

Now that I know I will be in Austin until November I am somewhat excited about Cut Copy coming on September 29th. I would be all over ACL but the 3-day passes are all gone, and I'm not excited about nearly enough bands to justify paying $80 a day, even for one day. This means I will miss out on Okkervil River yet again, but, well, they're not eighty dollars important to me.

So, yeah, I'm getting excited about Cut Copy.

Yeah, they played in Austin the next night. I had a good enough time with Wintersleep (they're far less danceable than Wolf Parade, so a lot of the crowd were agitating for their set to end from the beginning) but Wolf Parade definitely made the show.

Yeah, I mean, if I had heard of Wintersleep before I probably would've enjoyed it much more when theyw ere playing, but I downloaded some of their stuff and it's halfway decent. But yes, Wolf Parade provided so much energy and awesome music. Spencer Krug seems so modest and shy though, like every time the crowd went crazy applauding after a song he was just quietly like "Thanks, you guys are nice." But their encore was the best part of the whole show.

I GOT SIGUR ROS TICKETS!!!
I missed out on all four New York shows when trying to order online but a friend of a friend is willing to sell me a ticket face value for September 18th in New York. Holy shit I'm excited!! I was sure I was going to miss this whole tour and not be able to see them for a few years minimum thanks to their impending hiatus.

I think I'm seeing Sigur Ros as well.

I say I think because if all goes as planned, I will have press passes, but if all does not go as planned, I will not.
I should say though, that I am going to try REALLY fucking hard to make sure all goes as planned.

I was supposed to see The Arcade Fire/ LCD Soundsystem at the Hollywood Bowl last year. But things didn't go as planned, and i was quite upset.
This upsettness will be like 100x if I can't see Sigur Ros.

And I'm not even going to start talking about how excited I am for Radiohead in Chula Vista.

Other Bands I am really excited to hopefully see (in no particular order):
Okkervil River, Broken Social Scene, Mogwai, Stars, Octopus Project, Aesop Rock, The National, Beck, Menomena, TV on The Radio, The New Pornographers (for a 2nd time), Vampire Weekend, Man Man, Deerhoof, Girl Talk, The Dodos, M83,Presidents of the United States of America, quite a few others

Kanye was a big disappointment for me this summer.  Sigur Ros too.

Zappa plays Zappa (which I just noticed Jeph went to see) was crazy awesome.  Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival has probably been the best show on tour all summer for me.  I've seen them 3 times and each one has been even better.

This weekend coming up is a small festival in Asheville.  Trinumeral:  Galactic (still my favorite band), EOTO with Michael Kang, the Booty Band, and I'm very excited about Lotus and Particle.  Should be a good weekend.

Dammit you guys that are seeing Sigur Ros and Broken Social Scene, they won't come down here.... The closest place BSS is playing is Missouri, I might just make the pilgrimage.

I'm also mad because Yndi Halda is coming to Denton while I'll be back around Houston, and when they come to Houston it'll be at a 21-up bar.

Yeah, living in New Jersey (i.e. close to New York and Philly) actually does have some perks. I'm actually going to see Yndi Halda and Caspian and a couple other bands do a show at Piano's in New York in the end of August. Should be awesome!!

Kanye was a big disappointment for me this summer.  Sigur Ros too.

Explain?

Well Kayne was at Bonnaroo.  I was working the info tent and had a radio so I was listening in on the backstage production channel.  They moved his show from one of the tents to the main stage so he would have room to have his whole setup; they made this decision pretty early in the day so no big deal.  He wanted his show to be late so that his whole "glow in the dark" theme would look cool.  His whole setup was ready to go before 2 am.  He didn't get up on stage until close to 4 in the morning!  The sun was coming up before he was even an hour into his set.  I left after a short while.  It was horrible.

Really he was just being a jerk and wanted to be the only one on any of the stages.  Phil and Friends were suppoused to be on until about 4 but they were hurried to finish so the production crew could get Kayne to start on the other stage.  His big whiney blog post sealed the deal for me.  He's just a big ego that won't be getting any of my money.  I had a few albums but I've already given them away and don't plan on ever getting another.

The Talib Kweli show on the other hand was dank, and so was M.I.A.

As far as Sigur Ros goes it's tough for me to say.  I hadn't heard much so I went in with an open mind.  I did enjoy some of the show, a small march around the stage with tuba's and brass had me laughing but overall I couldn't get excited.  The singing after 5 or 6 songs really just began to sound all the same.  Give them a try I'd say but I'm not going to recommend it that much.

That what you were looking for?

ALL I CARE ABOUT ARE THE FANS.  JUST SAY THIS OUT LOUD IN  A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE, "KANYE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT GIVING A GOOD PERFORMANCE."  CAN ANYONE HONESTLY SAY THAT ?????????      HAS ANYONE EVEN TAKEN THE TIME TO AT LEAST  DO THE MATH???  BONNAROO SHOULD HAVE RELEASED A STATEMENT IN MY DEFENSE BUT SINCE THEY HAVEN'T LET'S BREAK DOWN THE WALLS ON THIS TRUMAN SHOW AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY OCCURRED!!!   FOR OVER A MONTH WE WENT BACK AND FORTH ON WETHER OR NOT WE COULD EVEN FIT MY STAGE AT THE FESTIVAL. ONE DAY THEY WOULD SAY YES... WE'D SEND THEM OUR SPECS THEN THEY THEY'D SAY OK... THEN THEY WOULD SEND SPECS BACK THAT DIDN'T FIT THE STAGE. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH FUCKING IDIOTS WHO DIDN'T REALLY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REALLY PUT ON THIS SHOW PROPERLY.  THEY TRIED 2 GIVE ME A TIME SLOT WERE IT WAS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE ... I HAVE A FUCKING LIGHT SHOW DUMB ASS, IT'S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS!  MY PEOPLE WORKED OUT A COMPROMISED STAGE PLOT AND A 3AM TIME SLOT AND I AGREED.   FAST FOWARD TO THE DAY OF THE SHOW. MY PRODUCTION MANAGER TRIED TO LOAD IN FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE I WENT ON STAGE BUT THE FESTIVAL WOULDN'T ALLOW US TO DO ANYTHING UNTILL PEARL JAM LEFT THE STAGE. PEARL JAM ENDED ONE HOUR
LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  AT THAT POINT WE'RE RACING AGAINST THE SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT 4:20AM DON COMES BACK 2 THE BUS AND TELLS ME, " IT  WOULD TAKE 45 MORE MINUTES TO PUT ALL YOUR PYRO IN!"  I SAY I HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . I HIT THE STAGE AND PEOPLE HAD BEEN THROWING SHIT ON THE STAGE AND HAD ACTUALLY HIT THE JANE SCREEN WITH, I GUESS BOTTLES OR SOMETHING AND HAD BROKEN MY FUCKING SCREEN.  REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE A SHORTY AND WATER WOULD HIT THE TV??????  WHEN I GOT 2 "THROUGH THE WIRE" I STEPPED ON  THE FRONT PART OF MY STAGE AND THERE WAS SO MUCH LIQUID ON THE STAGE  I COULDN'T MOVE WITHOUT SLIPPING. I HAD TO ADJUST MY WHOLE PERFORMANCE STYLE BECAUSE OF IT.  A FEW MORE SONGS IN AND THE SONG WAS ON IT'S WAY UP.. I  CUT A FEW SONGS FROM THE SET BECAUSE  I  WANTED PEOPLE 2 EXPERIENCE STRONGER WHILE THERE WAS STILL SOME DARKNESS TO PERFORM IT IN.  I'VE STRUGGLED WITH STRONGER FROM IT'S   CONCEPTION. REMEMBER LAST SUMMER WHEN I CANCELED SOME TV APPEARANCES.  IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO PERFORM STRONGER IN THE DAYTIME.  ANYONE WHO CAME TO THE GLOW TOUR CAN UNDERSTAND WHY I WANTED PEOPLE TO SEE IT PROPERLY. IT BROKE MY HEART THAT I COULDN'T GIVE THESE FANS STRONGER IN IT'S GREATEST FORM... BY THE TIME I GOT TO STRONGER IT WAS DAYTIME AND IT BROKE MY HEART.  I'M SORRY TO EVERYONE THAT I DIDN'T HAVE THE ABILITY 2 GIVE THE PERFORMANCE I WANTED TO. I'M SORRY...  SOMETIMES I GO 2, 3 DAYS W/O SLEEP WORKING ON MY PERFORMANCE... I HAVE TO ICE MY KNEES AFTER EVERY SHOW AND THEY HURT WHEN I WALK THROUGH THE AIRPORT... You know, while I'm sure all the pyrotechnics and the light show is cool, if your music isn't good enough to stand on its own without that, then you really aren't that much of a musician. If full load-in wasn't going to be possible, a real showman would have found a way to keep the necessary pieces and set up in a shorter time frame. If you're as good at your job as Kanye West seems to believe that he is, you'll make up for it as best you can and the audience will forgive you. What they won't forgive is a late performance that turns out to be too short followed by a lame excuse about how it's not your fault. The show must go on.

In November I'm going to see Stars of the Lid and Hammock, two of the best ambient musical groups out there, play a show together at a very cool little venue in New York. SofL almost never play live shows so needless to say I'm incredibly excited.
I'm also very excited to see Library Tapes and Deaf Center in the same venue in late September. I'll be getting my ambient fix for sure.

I'm going to see Nightwish, Gogol Bordello and Opeth in New Orleans in the upcoming monhts.

Yes, each band is a different show.

Nightwish is just because I had a friend ask me to join her.  But the Bordello and Opeth?  Hell yes.

I'm also seeing MSI at a couple of a shows with a friend.  This is mainly for the roadtrip and time spent with some amigos, but I got to say, Jimmy's banter makes the show lively.

Nobody too underground, like the Test Tube Queers, but I'm sure the people I work with will give me funny looks when I mention the band names.
