Apparently, Mogwai is supposed to be announcing U.S. tour dates soonish. On their myspace, they say that since their last tour was cut short, they would announce more U.S. dates in 2009 (I don't know if they meant at the beginning of the year, or anytime before 2010). If they come within a 40 mile radius of me, then that's the show I'm excited about. I don't know of any other bands I want to see that are touring near me, currently.

Has anyone heard more about this Mogwai business? All I read was rather vague.

So I've been pumped for this gaslight anthem show in two months right.
So I was listening to The Hold Steady today and was thinking, wow I've heard these guys put on a pretty good live show, I'm going to look at their tour dates.

They are playing the same day as the Gaslight Anthem.  I am frustrated now.

Since when do these bands even come near me, and now they are doing it on the same day.

in all honesty, a hold steady/gaslight tour would probably go down very well.  most people i know who are fans of one like the other too, at least in passing.

Forget that Albany show. Dropkick Murphys, March 16th at House of Blues in Boston. My friend just got a pair of tickets WOOOO

I'm jealous, that sounds like it's going to be an awesome show.  I want to see either Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly, both are playing in the next two months in NYC, and none of my friends want to go  :|

I'm not sure than I can justify paying >$30 for a ticket to a punk show, but man, they've never let me down live.

The crowds on the other hand..

I saw Flogging Molly briefly at Warped '07. They were good until someone kicked me in the skull. I don't remember the set from there on, just drinking some water and then finding my friend so we could see Bad Religion.

Hahaha it's funny that you think I read Pitchfork. I'll level with you man, I think Fall Out Boy make incredibly tight, infectious pop music, but their utter enthusiasm for selling out makes me retch. All of their clips are just fucking commercials.

And their fans are scum.

usually I am more diplomatic than this but you caught me on a bad day so fuck it.

Guys what do I do. Efterklang is coming. They play in DC during my spring break but the venue is +18. They play in philly the next day but the day after that I have an audition for music school which is basically the most important event in my life this year, maybe, and if I fuck it up REALLY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN.

halp plz

Hmm...tough one. I can say that I saw Efterklang play the same venue in Philly last tour and it was rather lovely. Also Matthew Broderick rocks. What would you be doing to prepare for the audition if you didn't go to the show? One the one hand, extra practice and enough sleep is probably important. On the other, how helpful will a couple extra hours of practice really be AND mightn't the music inspire you? Of course those are both a stretch but it will be a good show...

Mostly the extra sleep I would get would be nice but my audition is in the afternoon. I just don't know how hard I should push myself before I go.

Personally, I know I'd be kicking myself that night for not going, which would just distract me from practicing/preparing, so it'd be a lose-lose situation.

If I had to make a choice, theoretically, between Cut Copy and Tokyo Police Club, assuming I like their music pretty much equally and for different reasons, which one should I go see? Which band has the better live show?

I want to see Modest Mouse in March, especially since they're playing NYC, but $37 would be like the third most I've ever paid for a show and I really don't know it it's worth it (especially now, since my ipod was just stolen and I have to dip into the 'ole piggy bank for a new one).

I've heard from reliable sources that Tokyo Police Club are awful live. Cut Copy should be a fun time if you like dancing and attractive ladies.

I would kill to see Modest Mouse... for a band from the Pacific Northwest they sure know how to avoid Boise, not that I can blame them.

So I just spent $41 on a Death Cab ticket... I know, but I missed them 3 years ago when I was into them and I want to see Transatlanticism live...  Ratatat tickets go on sale tomorrow and I'll probably pick one of them up, and Andrew Bird tickets are $18 so I'll probably go to that as well.  Going to be my first concerts of the year.

Haven't seen anything since Ted Leo and Against Me! in October.  A band called The Future of the Left opened for them, and they were amazing.  They were a punk band from Scotland, and there was really no one on the floor when they played so during a synth solo about 8 of my friends and I formed a kick line.  After the show we talked with Against Me! then they walked across the street into, as far as I know, the only drag bar in Idaho.

EDIT: Murder by Death is playing March 1st... So I'm going to go to that too.  I probably wont be able to afford much food for a while.
