Augh, no way. SO WHINY even by DCFC standards. Between the "LA Is Dumb" and "My Dad Is A Cunt" songs I can't bear to listen to it anymore.

My favorite thing about Facts, and something I think is sadly lacking in virtually anything Ben Gibbard has touched since, is its understatement. Everything with newer DCFC and the Postal Service (which, to be honest, I still enjoy) is all "HEY GUYS CHECK IT OUT MY HEART IS ON MY SLEEVE RIGHT HERE LOOK YOU CAN POKE MY VENTRICLES," and it's disappointing to me because I think he's capable of more subtlety than that.

Man I hate bashing on the guy, he has made a record that I genuinely think is a classic and I know it's shitty to be That Guy On The Internet Who Bashes You Because He Liked Your Earlier Work Better...but yeah.

Mmm....if you're ready to "come out from your rock", i'd suggest to listening to things that could not really be listed under the umbrella term "indie". Or post rock (for that matter) Not that there's anything wrong with liking indie (or that it's even a genre per se, with a clearly definable sound, etc) Just.......try to branch out, i guess.

As i know that's not as easy as it sounds, you could start by listening to things that sound "kind of" like the things you posted in your list, but are either more challenging/older,etc.

For example, if you like post-rock, try listening to challenging post rock....like Gastr del Sol. They more or less lack the instrumental crescendos that permeate the whole genre of post-rock but are awesome in their own way.

Anyway, some random things i suggest, given your tastes:

-Television (GET. MARQUEE MOON. NOW.)
-Joy Division
-Talking Heads
-Battles
-Sonic Youth
-Fugazi

I know it's rather useless if i don't post any download links, but still, try listening to one or two of the above bands.

Shoegazy Space-rock:
-Silversun Pickups - EVERYTHING. Well, "Lazy Eye", "Kissing Families", "Well Thought Out Twinkles" are starters.
-The Secret Machines - "Now Here Is Nowhere", "Lightning Blue Eyes", "Alone, Jealous, and Stoned". Holy fuck, these guys are amazing.
-Panda Riot. Eety beety band at the moment. Choice songs, uh, hrm, their MySpace stuff plus a song called "Marker"

Unclassified Amazing:
-The Arcade Fire - Funeral. Yes, the entire album.
-TV On The Radio - Start at Young Liars - EP and work your way up.
-Eulogies - "Life Boat", "One Man", "If I Knew You". Adding them on MySpace got me a "Hellooooo" comment from them, which is cool.

I'd just like to say that I am basically in the same position as yelley, give or take or exchange a couple/several bands. Thus, I found this thread extremely helpful and exciting and otherwise delectable.
