Just learned how to play this one. "Let's Get Lost" - Elliott Smith.

And now to work on some Sara Bareilles (fucking gag, I am getting so tired of blue-eyed soul, I feel like I'm listening to the fucking Ally McBeal soundtrack) for a friend of mine to sing while I play it at open mic this week. Oh, the things I do for my friends.

Unexpectedly, I rather enjoyed that, though it made little sense to me.  I laughed aloud at the picture of Simon Cowell!

My friend Lindsay and I covered "Plane Crash in C" by Rilo Kiley at the bar, and I'm listening to the recording of it. Needs a little work but we can definitely do us a thing.

EMI have released the whole of an iconic series from my youth - the "Great Cathedral Organs" (of Britain) series, recorded by Brian Culverhouse in the 1960s.  Many of these organs have been rebuilt since then, and two of them scrapped and replaced, so these recordings are an important slice of the past (for those who are interested).  I have listened to the ones I once had on LP, and am now working through those that I missed out on.

(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes - Elvis Costello

Costello was probably the single strongest performance I've ever seen, and it was just him and an acoustic guitar. It was fantastic.

Haydn String Quartets - the greatest single contribution to the medium (followed by Beethoven and Bartók in no particular order).  I am listening to the early ones played by the Kodály Quartet, and the late ones played by the Takács Quartet.

I've been listening to the most sickeningly sweet and terrible 90's pop lately.

Like Toy Box. Remember Toy Box? That band that sounds just like Aqua?

I never realized how incredibly dirty Barbie Girl is.

"You can make me walk, you can make me talk, do whatever you please
I can act like a star, I can beg on my knees"

...wow. I listened to this in elementary school?

Fleshgod Apocalypse - Agony.

My darling son is behind me, playing with his new-noise-making toy, so on occassion Fleshgod seems to use really bad samples of dogs barking, sheep bleating, trains ... training ... it was weird the first few times.

Now listening to Dog G - The Last Song

Taiwanese rap featuring Freddy Lim from the black metal band Chthonic. It's pretty damn awesome.

With translated (by me and google) lyrics becuase the lyrics make the thing complete becuase it's in dutch

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TbLvfgA9hY&feature=related

He's on the backseat
We're silent for a while
I've had enough now
I'm cycling myself to bits

King alcohol is at the party
Never falls out of his role
Keeps tabs on everyone
Gives nothing away
He makes promises come true
And make my eyes old
And lies untill he breaks
Yeah, we laugh a lot
The king and I

We stay home a lot
Together in the kitchen light

He makes the party complete
He's that popular
And funny sometimes
King vesper
He cathes the bullet meant for me
He pushes me off the boat

Were lying in the sun
He lifts me on his throne
I was seventeen
He knows who I am
He has seen it all

He sometimes is away for months
Sends a greeting card
With greetings and how it goes

We are listening to traditional Christmas music played on non-traditional instruments.  Two albums of hammered dulcimer, two albums of guitar, and an album of harp and psaltery.

Kind of fun Christmas music.
