Consonant--Who Touches You Now

Clint Conley's side-project outside of Mission of Burma. It's him on lead vocals/guitar, Chris Brokaw on guitar, Matt Kadane on drums and Winston Braman on bass, with poet Holly Anderson providing lyrical input. Very MoBish sounding but there's a serious jangly edge that basically makes it a near-perfect collision of Mission of Burma and early REM.

I'm not gonna lie, but I think I'm preferring this a lot more than Mission of Burma, and I fucking love Mission of Burma.

i'm preparing a playlist for my radio show, which [shameless plug] you can hear from 9-11pm GMT on www.endeavouronline.net tonight [/shameless plug].

Gave the new Ted Leo a blast and wound up making an epic playlist of pretty much everything he's done. Currently ploughing my way through 'Biomusicology' - still a fuckin' classic.

"Bread of Bitterness" by Deathspell Omega

What the butt is up with this band's drummer, he is like an octopus that has some kind of genetic mutation where he has five extra arms, and all the other octopi make fun of him for it, but he doesn't care 'cause he's such a great fucking drummer.

My creepy* Japanophile roommate kind of ruined the Pillows for me.

really?!  i honestly can't see how anyone who likes any of his other stuff wouldn't enjoy it...  maybe you need to give it a few more listens?  i dunno, all i know is i've heard it 3 times through and every single song is lodged firmly in my skull - i'm LOVING that shit.

Yeah, I dunno, I've listened to it once and it seemed pretty decent. I need to give it a few more tries, but it's nowhere near as great as Tyranny of Distance.

Also, I was pretty god damn disappointed by Titus Andronicus' new album after the brilliant Airing of Grievances.

The guitars on The Monitor are so muddy and indistinct, like who the fuck thought that was a good way to record that album? The songs are fine, but the mixing and production are terrible.

I have not heard The Airing of Grievances and based on what other people told me about TA I didn't think I'd like them one little bit, but I snagged The Monitor from the MF thread and really really liked it- it may well be the best record I've heard from 2010 so far-, although I can see what people would have against the mix. I've only listened to it once on my iPod, and I imagine it wouldn't sound too hot from speakers. On the other hand I think it kind of fits the band's approach. Does the first album sound significantly different in terms of the mix? I do kind of wonder if they might benefit from a slightly more hi-fi approach, a la The Hold Steady or summint'.

Anyway, I am listening to

Screamo as fuck.  And yet oddly upbeat if you ignore the lyrics!

I thought they were tongue-in-cheek.  Or so the fact that the lead singer screams out "KAMEHAMEHA!" in the middle of one of their songs would have me believe.

you're referring to "this isn't the tenka-ichi-budokai" there right?  because i wondered what the fuck he was yelling at that point (as it's not on the lyric sheet).  i'm assuming that's gibberish and not an actual word that i've somehow never heard before...?
