the human body cant withstand the vacuum of space. 3 reasons:

1. temperatures near absolute 0

2. no breathable air

3. such a drastic differance between pressure inside the body and outside in the vacuum

basically instant death

So very, very wrong.

1. Space has no temperature. There's no air to carry heat away from your body. You'd only lose the little bit your body radiates.

3. One atmosphere of pressure difference is not drastic. The various tissues in the body hold up quite well in vacuum. Your eyes would dry out, but they wouldn't burst (at least not before you die of other causes).

2. No air means you'd suffocate. You'd have...oh, three to five minutes before you die.

fine we'll send you out into space with an airtank and see how long you last. im guessing instant death but if you dont think then so lets try it

If the decompressee is not human, who knows how long they could survive.

I sometimes forget to read the title of the comics, which stems from back when I was reading 15-20 a day to get through the archive, but I caught today's title before reading the rest of the comic and...Oh man! It is just so much funnier when you read the title first; that punchline hits harder and stays with you even longer.

As for the comic, it's funny because it's true!

People are always seem to be more interested when you're no longer available. It's like the get they nerve to tell you cause they figure you have a real excuse to reject them and not cause you aren't interested in them.

Is it possible for Marten to do anything without it being awkward? One thing I couldn't figure out is why Kiaya freaked out in panel 5. Mumbling something stupid and incoherent is standard when you get shot down, but she seemed absolutely shocked that he might be seeing someone already. And I do hope he doesn't relate this encounter to Dora verbatim. She would probably be none too pleased to find out they are "kind of" seeing each other.

I assume Tai is wearing contacts, although maybe her glasses fell off during a makeout session in the stacks.

Some other problems with a vacuum:
1) Water boils immediately. If your skin is damp, you'll lose a hell of a lot of heat that way.
2) You will still lose heat to radiation, but whether or not you're in sunlight will determine how quickly you die. Sunlight in space hits Earth at around 1000W/m².
3) The air in your lungs will REALLY want to escape - you might have a hell of a time holding in 14.7psi.


And my hair never FOOF!s when I take off a hat or hood.

Agree on glasses make her look more... studious. Sans glasses, Tai looks more like the other girls rather than less, to me.

Well, nope, your blood wont boil as such because your body is solid enough to keep the pressure up high enough.

If your blood really would boil as a whole, you would indeed explode, as one liter of water IIRC translates to 1,700 liters of steam.
