  • This is my happening and it freaks me out!

Anna- you are a teenage girl living a suburban town which, by a 50-something year old could be described as "quaint". As a restless teenager, you find the contents of said town despicable and your number one dream is to abandon it for better, more exciting things as soon as your development will allow you. Part of your music allows you to relate to famous musicians who write about growing up in their own quaint, shithole suburban towns and then running from them. You wish to be like these people more than anything in the world. The rest of your music allows you to live vicariously through it's creators, fantasizing about big cities and amazing travels and colorful experiences. You look forward to the times when this will be your present.

You are intelligent and this makes it difficult for you to deny that you are incredibly naive. You try as you must to overlook the somewhat melancholy reality that you will never be who and where you want to be, simply because your fantasies are just that, and your idols are regular people such as yourself whose music is, for the most part, fictitious.

Occasionally you ignore all this momentarily and rock the fuck out with a small companion on your shoulder which you keep there for gratification. The parakeet appreciates the rokk like no one else does.

  • SKULL BABIES!

Here is what is on my mp3 player, which due to limited capacity only has what I currently want to listen to on it.  This selection is somewhat biased towards music that is fun to work out to.

Amanda Palmer
Battles
Billy Joel
Blood Brothers
Cursive
David Bowie
Death from Above 1979
Dresden Dolls
Future of the Left
Johnny Cash
Justice
The Hold Steady
Leonard Cohen
Mastodon
Meat Loaf
Megadeth
Mogwai
Neutral Milk Hotel
Placebo
The Psychedelic Furs
The Rolling Stones
Ryan Adams
Shakira
The Smiths

If someone can stereotype me in a reasonably accurate way, I'll be pretty impressed.

1. Yo La Tengo - Season of the Shark
2. Opeth - Funeral Portrait
3. Extra Limb - Spittin' Blood
4. Nine Inch Nails - Sin

7. Deftones - My Own Summer (Shove It)
8. Ignite - Veteran
9. Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile

I'm taking the easy way out on this one and giving you the link to something you've probably seen before. On the plus side, that one is probably the one I'd be most likely to date.

Man, I DO have Larry Arms at 11.

You enjoy reading about and discussing musical theory and musical equipment.  You used to enjoy ska, but now it kind of bores you.  You really like George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire.

You sometimes lurk the QC music forums, but very rarely. You're starting to become interested in what everyone else is listening to, but really it's just music so you are like "whatev". In time though, you will become more bitter and more angry and slowly, though you won't realize it at the time, become One Of Us.

You don't care enough to re-tag all of the "Green Typewriters" on Dusk At Cubist Castle with Roman numerals just to prevent it from being your number one song. It is your number one song because you are a firm believer in the superiority of listening to full albums over just listening to songs.

John K. Samson's lyrics make you cry because they are so honest and meaningful.

You are generally a pretty happy person.  You are content, and while you enjoy trying new things, you do not go out of your way to do so.  You have a close group of friends, and you go to the same restaurant every Saturday.  The wait staff knows your name and what you usually order, and you tip well, but not extravagantly.  Your wardrobe contains many band t-shirts and several argyle cardigans.  You play acoustic guitar, and your ideal job is owning your own record store.

(I am pretty sure I'm just projecting features of people I know who like the same music onto you.)

Type O Negative- Life is Killing Me
Method Man- Bring the Pain

In person, you're relatively quiet when the subject of music comes up, because nobody really knows what you're talking about whenever you get excited about something.  However, constant reinforcement from a variety of sources that you have specifically sought out for the sake of sharing thoughts about music (aka the internet) has you convinced that when you get excited about music, you have a better reason to than anyone else.  You're usually right, but this approach hasn't really quite yet coalesced into any kind of defined taste per se, and in between this, your enthusiasm for the music you listen to, and the fact that most of the talking you do about music is on the internet, you haven't found anyone yet who you can hang out with and just listen to music to with.  Since music is such a large part of your life, you sometimes despair of ever finding a close music buddy, and perhaps an abnormally large proportion of what you look for in a partner has to do with their musical tastes.

That's because it's awesome. If it were a physical being, it would be lurching around like a shambling corpse.
