Thank you for trying to tell me about the "interwebs."  How very helpful of you.

One small difference is that I can't ban people for being skeevy dickheads on "the interwebs" and I can here.

I mean, you're all "hurr hurr hurr, I wanna fuck a comic character, hurrr"

all "hurr a hurr hurr, X and Y are purdy, you should make 'em fuck, a-durrrr"

Jesus Christ, listen to yourselves.

Honestly, I don't think you can stop it, or even hope to contain it - at least not without some fallout.  Moreover, perhaps we should ask if it's really necessary.  I think banning people for what amounts to mostly harmless conversation is a bit much, and may lead to some bad mojo in the forums.  I know it probably won't effect the bottom line, as only 0.001% of the readers actually post here, but you get my point.  I'm not saying that some limits and rules aren't necessary - clearly, they are.  But I think in this case, people are more doing it out of fun and love (agape, not eros) for the comic, not to get their jollies.  I've seen very few if any 'OMGZ I WANNA PUT MAI WANG IN HANNERZ KEWTER' type of posts, which would clearly be way over the top and require banning.  What's here in the forums is very rarely that.

I know it makes Jeph very uncomfortable, and I totally feel him on that and I'm sorry he has to see it, but he also hasn't gone so far as to potentially drive away some readers by banning them for it, and I think there's a lesson in that.  All in all, it's mostly jokes and good fun and love of the comic's characters.  Though it may not feel as good as acting on an impulse, let's sit back and try to enjoy the quirkiness that is the QC forums.

As an Ubuntu user, I heartily endorse the viewpoints of the Anthro-Linux.

As an Ubuntu user, I am sick of Ubuntu

sure it is pretty cool. But still none of the programs I need to use for my synthesizer are working with Wine, the MIDI sucks in the first place, etc, etc. If I was willing to work on it, I know, I'd probably figure it out/fix it.

SO I'm going back to windows, although I don't want to.

Remember A) we're talking about a sentient computer, so software is a bit more fundamental than entertainment material. And B) a significant part of his software was written by Richard Stallman, whose views on closed source software are legendary even in this world where computers aren't ambiguously sentient.

I think it's interesting that everyone is hollering about how stereotypical Marigold is as a gamer. Yeah, the sloppy, surly computer guy is pretty typical. But being a girl myself, I think it's cool that she's a computer tech/hacker/goddess and also that she's totally into porn. Not just any old porn either. Hentai is kinky and IMHO gross as fuck. I like that about her. Already she is apologetically horny and good with machines.

Plus sometimes stereotypes are mired in truth and I know probably 30 gamers and can only think of two that are the least bit neat. The rest are nasty slobs.

At first I thought she was in a dorm because her dresser and bed are next to her front door, but Dora says there is a living room, which has me all thrown off. Why is her bedroom by the door if she is not in a dorm?

Maybe she decided she wanted a huge bedroom and could do with a tiny living room, so she turned what was originally the living room into her bedroom, and she has a 12'x12' living room!   :-D

Seriously, I've done it, mostly sarcastically, but I've never actually pictured any of the characters doing other characters. Is that what QC shipping is about? I thought most people did it for the possible hilarity, conflict, drama or character development that might follow certain personality combos.

I think that's her bedroom.  It looked (strip before today's) as if Marten and Dora were already in the apartment and about to knock on Marigold's door.  Perhaps, Momo-tan let them in.

Marigold was quite the inspiration for me.  I didn't login to run 10man Ulduar on Thursday night, instead I cleaned my apartment.

On the other hand, if Marigold went AFK in a raid I was leading to fix some one elses PC... I would have been hella pissed off.  Especially if it was a progression night.  Yoggy you will DIE, you will DIE SOON!

Hannelore will arrive at Marigold's door, she'll take one look at the mess and freeze.

Then all of a sudden, her muscles begin to bulge, a brilliant pulsing light shines all around her, and her hair turns bright white.

She then flies into the maelstrom, screaming a Valkyrie-like warcry.

I told you. EPIC.

Bringing in Hannelore is funny, but it would be bad in "reality"(*). Marigold would probably go ballistic at having her stuff moved. Remember, she immediately and emphatically ordered her guests not to touch anything. And subjecting an OCD sufferer to that apartment would be cruel.

(*) Defined as something that happens onscreen and is consistent with the internal logic of Jeph's fictional universe.

I'm wondering if Momo-tan has tiny nozzles installed in her head to do the 'sweat' effects.

I really like Dora as she's drawn in the last panel, but what if Marigold likes her environs that way. I can see it now—she emerges to her sanitary living room to scream "Where's my stuff?"

In other words, it'll all end in tears. Maybe with some rage mixed in.

The apartment will certainly be sanitized after Hannelore arrives. The combination of that much matter and antimatter will create a truly epic blast of gamma radiation.

(That much overall mass turning to energy would probably also wipe out most of New England.)

If Marigold is a hoarder, she will definitely go ballistic. My mom would sometimes clean my room, when she couldn't stand the mess anymore, and I'd freak because I couldn't find anything and she'd thrown out stuff out that I wanted to keep. The mess would all be back in a matter of days, but it took me longer to get over the stuff she'd thrown out. Crazy stuff like a test that I took in 3rd grade, bits of rubber tubing, elastic strings, odd buttons, etc.

I'm not usually one to pick apart everything Dora does for signs of being a bitch, but it is a little rude to call somebody up to come clean somebody else's place without saying anything.

Marigold would probably go ballistic at having her stuff moved. Remember, she immediately and emphatically ordered her guests not to touch anything. And subjecting an OCD sufferer to that apartment would be cruel.

Well, ironically the mess could have been caused by OCD. She either focuses completely on games and Japanese culture and completely ignores everything else, or is a compulsive hoarder. (Hoarding is usually tied with OCD.) I think the latter is a possibility, since she didn't want anyone touching anything (hoarders freak out if someone moves their stuff or makes them get rid of it, just like a germophobe would if you washed their bathroom with a raw chicken).

Either way, Hannelore had better bring her HazMat suit.

I was thinking the same thing, particularly since that person is basically a stranger. I do hope Dora plans to mention it to Marigold before Hanners shows up there with a truckload of cleaning material, although I can picture that as being one awkward conversation:

"So, person I just met, I think your house is too dirty so I called my clean freak friend to clean it for you. I hope you don't mind?"

I know I'd be pissed off. I know Dora means well, but it's none of her business.

Well, on the one hand she might be pissed and demand they leave, no problem.  On the other hand, she's living with rats.

And she will keep doing so as soon as she's done dirtying up the place...one Hanners-cleaning won't solve the problem unless Marigold actually changes her habits (or hires Hanners as a maid or something). I do agree with Dora that it's unhealthy and disgusting, though she might have been better off approaching Marigold with the idea first...it's her house after all. I am curious how it'll turn out
