Technically I didn't say that - I just named a group that behavior is typical of.

So, you were using a racial stereotype?

Quote
Especially when it's something of a stereotypical nature.

It's not a stereotype I ever heard of. Maybe they assumed it was a stereotype because it mentioned race?

I don't even remember how many movies I've seen where black women/girls are shown with outrageous hair styles that change every ten seconds, but it's been quite a few. Most of those movies also portray those women as stereotypical ghetto babies.

The ellipses knew it. That's why he showed up to the party. The rest of us are just pawns in the ellipses' sick game.

Wil coming back = yay! But I look at him and wonder what the christ he would look like in real life. There are so many jutting bones and angles. He could cut Penny with that cheekbone.

I have but just one little complaint, so let's get it over with: I'd have thought Wil would have tanned a little during this ramble of his. Oh, well, I'm not sure anyway, I don't know much about tanning.

Now... Yay, Wil is back! As romantic and bumbly as usual! A bit silly though: if he wanted a specific background music, he should have found a way to set it up. He's quirky (and romantic) enough to just do that. Must have been on a hurry to see Penelope.

Some people burn easily, but never tan and so are very conscientious with the sunblock. The uber white combo of German, Scandinavian and Irish that is my husband has to wear at least an SPF 70 if he's going to be out in the sun for any period of time. Two of our kids can tan, but our daughter takes after him.

Yeah, I thought the whole expecting spontaneous background music things was a bit over the top, but I'm so glad to see Wil back that I don't even care. I hope he hasn't changed too much while he was gone. I liked him the way he was.

Well, he went off for a while. Who knows how much he might have changed. Pen might go all militant freak on him over something and Wil, with new backbone courtesy of self-discovery, might not take it well. Thenceforth follows drama. He ends up finding Marigold somehow and the live happily ever after off strip. I mean Wil is Sven's friend, not CoD crew and Marigold is only marginally acquainted with the CoD folk via Angus who is not part of the CoD crew, so they could slip off together without any major damage to the central characters.

Not that I want it to go in that direction. I just like to work out scenarios in my head. I like to try and find ways to make them possible.

Michael Landon himself, maybe not. Of course, I am a victim of Little House on the Prairie, which my younger sister for some daft reason loved, and we had to watch because it was 'wholesome.' I may never recover.

:-D That comic is fitting. Especially when english is not your native language but german.

"A latte" is german slang for a boner. Mixing two languages up gives the whole comic a perfect fitting.

Is 'twat' a popular swear word in the States? I thought it was probably more of a UK thing. Cool. In some parts of this island you'll actually get 'twat' considered worse than 'cunt'.  :-o

Some Americans use British slang because:

A) it sounds cooler.
B) they can get away with bad words they couldn't get away with if their parents/teachers knew what they meant.
C) it's not really swearing if it's in another language, and they either think of British as another language or they figure alternate slang is close enough.
D) they hear it on TV.

For me, it's a combo of A and D.  The more British or A and B inspired TV I watch/books I read, the more I find myself asking where that bloody remote went and why the frell is my cat being such a twat.

Dude ... Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven ... I win ... or lose, really.

I also had to watch him on Bonanza, but I didn't mind it so much 'cause Westerns were the only interest my Grandpa' and I had in common ... that and wrestling. The old school wrestling that wasn't as soap opera like and lame.

Yeah, it's not all that popular.

I use it occasionally because I talk to a lot of people who live in the UK, and that kind of shit rubs off on you.
It doesn't seem to be as offensive as "fuck" around these parts, but around these parts, people still beat up gays, so whatever.

Also I giggled a bit. Poor Wil. He suffers so.

No. Sideburns and a nose piercing are usually a giveaway that it's not Jeph. Also, he wouldn't break the fourth wall.

I find british slang to lack the desired effect if not said with the appropriate accent.

That's easily correctable: at some point Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham need to burst into CoD and start schooling everybody (via mass bombardment, of course) in the proper use of British curses. And Statham has to make some reference to "ze Germans". Just because.

Dude ... Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven ... I win ... or lose, really.
I avoided Highway to Heaven like the plague. I had my own TV by then. Lived in another house, too.

As for twat, we've been using it here (take that as you will) since the 1980's, anyway. I know this because  while we were reading Milton (I think) my high school English teacher asked us what the 'fiery, burning gulf' where 'no one wants to go' was, and someone replied 'Your twat.'

Twit, on the other hand, has, so far as I know, never made it 'cross the pond in any big way. And yes, Penquin47, I, too, find myself using British slang and some syntax (it can be slightly different) when I've been reading one of their bloody novels. Or watching some of their grotty imported T.V. (courtesy BBC America).*

I've never told anyone I fancy them, though. I have some control.

*(YES, I'm kidding. I'm addicted to both Pratchett and Adams, watch far too much of Dr. Who, Primeval (first series, anyway), and Torchwood, and there may never be a better comedy series than Chef!. Although Coupling and One Foot in the Grave come close).

I grew up in Chicago, spent most of my teen years in Boys town, and I can tell you that the word twat was frequently made use of by the gay and lesbian folk.

The only slang Brit term I use is ballocks instead of bull shit in certain situations.

Yes, I know most people spell it bollocks, but I originally learned the term from books that used the mideveil spelling and my brain insists that is the way it should be spelled. This has also caused problems with me and words like flavor, glamor, favorite, etc. My brain likes to toss in that letter u.

P.s. .... How is Wil a douche? I don't think he's a douche. He may in fact be one of the least douche like characters in this comic!

Also, has anyone mentioned Faye's bear shirt yet?

In Panels 3 and 4, are the customers Jeph and Cristi?

Hockey puck ear piercings are usually a giveaway for Jeph...

It's not me. Also Cristi is not orange. So, no.

Who knew a simple ellipsis would cause so much drama?

Yah, really. They are a dangerous tool.
