Please tell me you have a link to this because otherwise I'm going to assume you just made this shit up, what with everything else you've said so far being patently wrong an' all.

I can't be expected to memorize the URL of every worthless developer interview, especially since I never pay attention to the hype. Ever. I remember when I first started hearing about Brütal Legend I thought to myself that it was just going to be a horrible, prolonged, incredibly painful Chuck Norris joke with every instance of "Chuck Norris" replaced by "heavy metal".

However, a quick Google search does indicate that other people have read the same interviews and at least discussed them on various forums. Turns out the reason they removed non-linearity was because every person ended up taking the same path in the non-linear versions of the levels. Must have just been one of those behavioral quirks people have. You know, going left whenever you're lost.

Also I am beginning to suspect that you are not very good at mathematics, considering "everything else I've said" was "Left 4 Dead is a serious, serious game". Also I am not in any way accusing anyone in this thread of being a creepy fanboy, but I notice that your clever counter-arguments to "Left 4 Dead is a serious game" were all just either "you are wrong" or "AHAHAHAHAHAHA" (AKA the "crying on the inside because someone said mean hurtful things about the things I like" response)

What was in any way non-serious about Left 4 Dead? Was it something some particularly wacky player said to you in a multiplayer session? Because I've heard stories about that, which I believe to be entirely fictional. This is because the only kind of people I've met online in L4D are the ones that don't communicate at all ever in any way and the ones that treat co-operative online shooters like they were World Of Warcraft progression raids. Which is to say, by responding to everything with a fullblown psychotic episode.

I read an interview where Gabe Newell said they had to rape babies to get the sound effects for the zombies.

Corroborating an alleged story by saying "other people on other forums believe it too" is about the dumbest statement I've seen on here in at least an hour and a half. Comic discussion forum included.

Hey guys, I'm not really very interested in this game because zombies are pretty boring, but I've just deleted four posts from this thread because they had absolutely nothing to do with discussing the game and everything to do with ganging up on Tunahead because he/she said something that everyone else thought was silly.

The moral of the story is don't be arseholes or I'll delete your posts and/or lock the thread.

A few things:
-Walking Witches are creepy, especially cause they sing
-I really love the melee weapons
-the new sniper rifle is awesome
-Witches don't like you throwing boomer bile on them
-The new Smoker looks really freaky
-I love the sound the Charger makes
-I love that you can change records in the Juke Box

And if the point wasn't already made, it goes on to state it multiple times.

Quote
Comic books are also good at staying true to this approach. 28 Days Later was obviously really serious, and really dark, it sent the genre in its own direction.

With Sean of the Dead at the other end?

Absolutely. Right! Its completely out there. We're looking for that perfect mix. Nothing too serious, we like a laugh, but we also want to creep you out a little bit. When one of the boss Infected jump out at you we want you to scream, and yell!

Some of the horror films we've mentioned make veiled political points. Will your game have a hidden message?

Not at all. We don't take oursleves that seriously. We're so bad with our ship-dates anyway that were we to include some kind of message it would be teribly irrelevent by the time the game was released!

[Laughter]

Again, we try not too take ourselves too seriously.

On the other hand if a particular player's subjective experience is that a game is serious then for that player the game is serious. It doesn't matter what the developers say and it's no use telling the player "No! You're not doing it right!"

Of course, if said player tries to convince everyone else that it is serious, he has no leg to stand on.

Besides, you think zombies are boring. Your argument is invalid.

Honestly, seeing as how my current video game cash and time budgets are (read: should be) both set to 0 at the moment, I'm hoping some people stick around on the demo after the full game is released. Will the demo still be available after then, does anyone know?

If you're referring to the core optimization thing, yeah it doesn't seem to be working out for me very well either, although in general it seems to be much better optimized. I hope they'll have the kinks worked out by launch or shortly thereafter.

I worked really late today so I just got home and tried the first couple parts of "Dead Center"

So far...  I'm really digging it.  Me + grenade launcher + katana = lots of zombie parts everywhere (I don't live in Australia, obviously)  I'm looking forward to finishing everything in single player before I start campaign mode.

They all fit within well-defined strategic roles for the Infected, which is nice. With the Spitter you divide the survivors, with the jockey you draw the survivors where you want them to go (it's nice that a jockey is so hard to remove by shooting) and the Charger is just a direct damage type. Versus should be fun, I haven't tried it out yet.

The Charger is pretty good at isolating single survivors, since he's immune to the knockback of everything but the explosive rounds, and his charge knocks everybody back.  If you get a good charge, you can carry a survivor clear down a street,  or, in the case of Hard Rain, off of the big five-story building. slam someone off of it.  He can also break up a group of survivors in cramped hallways, if he doesn't get stuck on anything.

Yeah Charger can do some evil crap if you get a good line to an edge. ALso, bowling for survivors is fun as hell. I got a strike yesterday. Spitter/boomer combo is also crazy evil. Stuff a bunch of survivors in a tight space with a Boomer horde, then spit and watch as they desperately try to escape both the zombies and acid.

So far my favorite maps (I haven't played through all the scenarios yet) are the first level of Dead Center, the finale of Dark Carnival, and the third level of Heavy Rain.

I've been playing since early morning today, mostly Versus and online campaign. I love this game. It is so good and I'm probably not going to play anything else for a while even though last week I was totally addicted to Dragon Age.

I wasn't a fan of Versus in the first game. Rarely played it, and when I did I never found it enjoyable or interesting. This time around it's been nothing but fun. I chalk this up to the fact that the times I have played I have always had a great team who constantly coperated with each other and communicated well, which looking back is something that I did not find with the L4D. I know that's not a fault of the game, I just seem to have better experiences with other players on this game.

Although I know for a fact I came off as a huge dick today. I was playing the Drak Carnival campaign with guys I met in a Lobby, I suggested we try the Gnome Chompski Achievement where you have to rescue a garden gnome you win at a game stall at the carnival. It took us three runs of ammo to get the alloted points to unlock it. After an hour and 50 minutes we finally made it to the finale with gnome still being held onto. After an epic stand off with hordes and two tanks the chopper comes, I'm down to my last health so I decide to just run and take the gnome as far as I can before I die. On the way to the chopper I find a med kit and heal while the others are holding their own behind me so this gives me time to dash ahead and get in to wait for them, only they get bombarded by a horde and I'm left in the helicopter holding a gnome and not wanting to let go because daminit I want this fucking Achievement.

Which I got.

They weren't happy that I didn't help them and kicked me after the credits.

TL;DR: Game is fucking choice. I would be totally down for a QCL4D2 Squad.

It's so goddamn fun on both sides. It's pretty much just versus a la carte. Highly intense, high paced zombie on survivor action.

Am I just having bad luck or is the quality of the pick up games even way worse than the original L4D?   I haven't been in a group yet that didn't have at least one total fuckwit in it, and sometimes it's been all three.   Yeah, sure, I had plenty of bad games in the original too, but I haven't been on a single team of at least all competent players.  Periodically in the original, I'd get matched up on some great teams.

The newness maybe?
