Prediction: Marigold will call Hannelore for help evicting the squirrel.  The squirrel will touch Hannelore's skin, sending her steadily increasing animal phobia over the edge.

Actually, she should call Faye. Being a southern girl, she has a natural +2 vs. varmints.

Just don't eat any stew that Faye cooks for the next couple of days after that.

And yes, I do know that I am going to Hell for perpetuating that stereotype.

Not quite. You can get a pretty good gist of it by looking at the ustream currently.

Clairvoyant comic comment: D'aww, panel 3.

Panel 3 is interesting... I don't think I've seen that angle used much in QC.  Experimenting with new styles, Jeph?  Looks good.

Also, has anyone else noticed that his eyes seem redder of late than they used to be?

The ustream show chatter is a touch too juvenile for me to cope with.

Yeah, it got dragged down pretty early.  Mainly by the one kid who kept shouting "DOES THE CARPET MATCH THE DRAPES. HURR, HURR, HURR?" *

After everyone started talking about oriental rugs and venetian blinds, he felt obliged to explain what he meant!

God, it was painful to see.  That's when I left.  Schadenfreude only goes so far!

* - "HURR"s added by this poster.  I could tell they were there, though.

And I was hoping the conversation had gone better than that...

Oh, c'mon... you saw the conversation with Will!  How well could the whole back alley thing have gone?

I think that we're into one doozey of an arc.  I've known guys like Sven, livin' the life every teenage boy dreams of.  Emotions never really show up.  Sven knew something was missing before he went into the coffee shop to talk, but know he's starting to see what it is, and I think he's kinda scared.

He's got those 5 stages of grief to go through for his old life, though, and that should be fun to watch!  He's already been through the denial.  Angry with himself?  Check.  Lashing out at others, too, back at the sledding party.  Let's see... bargaining, he just tried that in the back alley.

OK, now we're into depression.  That leaves acceptance, but nobody's actually dead yet, so I'm thinking Rom-com, and he tries to win her back.  Hilarity ensues, and with friends like theirs...

On another note, the conversation with Will has left me with Leon Redbone's version of "No Regrets" stuck in my head.  And I can't find it anywhere to get it OUT!

UStream is like live YouTube.

Which means live YouTube comments.

I'm an operator in an IRC channel for a UStream stream, and we found a nice idiot filter - embed the stream on another page, disable the UStream chat, and put a link in the show info to the other page, with a Java client for the new IRC channel.

The idiots can't figure out to click the link to go to the new page.

or maybe its just me preferring sven to angus.

I've said it before, and will say it again: Dora's the best person in the strip.

And not because she's sassy again, but because she came by to check on Sven. Jeph's fantastic art (it always amazes me how much emotion he gets into so few lines these days) makes that crystal clear.

Oh, and Carl-E, I think you've got Sven nailed down. But he's slippery, so he may revert back some stages first. I'm not sure he's ready to become the Broom in the Swiffer commercial just yet.

@weirdbeard, I hope you're right. I mean, I know it didn't go well, per se, but I thought there might be little wiggle room. Really its only because I am a sucker for this type of relationship in books/comics. Romcom makes for drama with a healthy amount of snark and hilarity. A nice combination.

As for yesterdays comic, Dora shocks me yet again. I love when we get to see her and Sven together and on their own. They have a sibling dynamic that we don't get to see all that often. Its refreshingly undramatic usually and very sweet.

I'm wondering if Sven will hatch some kind of plan to get back in Faye's good graces and if Dora will be stupid kind enough to help him.
...I hope she is.

I am unsure it can really be predicted. That is one of the things I like about QC, I can never tell what is going to happen. In that way it is a lot better than a rom-com because in a lot of those you can just tell how everything is going to end up.

I do think that if Faye and Sven get together in a proper relationship that the focus might need to shift a bit. It would be difficult to have the same level of drama around a group involving two couples.

Hilarious comic, but it raises a question in my mind. When we were introduced to Marigold, she was indifferent to sharing her bedroom with feral rats. But a squirrel - essentially a rat with an Afro tail - is relentlessly hounded out of the apartment.

Is a spring-clean by Hannelore and a night out with the gang such a powerfully civilizing experience?

She probably was not aware of the rats before, or, was too overwhelmed by the enormity of the cleaning task to take action.

Dora points out a rat, but Marigold doesn't seem to think it's important enough to do anything beyond saying "pet rat?". And you'd think if she hated all rodents as much as squirrels, she'd at least clean up enough to chase the rats out.

Maybe she got attacked by a rabid squirrel one time, or something.

You can't count on anything vis-a-vis character sizes.  Jeph draws freehand, and different angles, etc. make the characters look different.  Everyone's boobs keep changing apparent size, too.  Well, at least the girl's boobs do.

The only thiings you can count on are that Faye will look aerodynamically curvaceous, and Hannelore will be a walking stick (food OCD keeps her from eating a lot).

And now I'm wondering about Raven, the only other character who was purported to be above average size... in certain areas...

It's also possible that Faye is "really" getting heavier. She seems to have backslid on the emotional progress she was making. Post-Sven, it wouldn't be surprising if she's been raiding the emergency Ben&Jerry's again.

I have to say I am impressed Mr. Reed resisted the "over her shoulder boob honk" to accentuate his offer of make outs.

Oh, but the title - Fickenfreude?!? Pure genius!

You know, it's been a long time that Dora and Marten have been together, and I thought for a minute they'd be past the "making out at any random opportunity" stage.  Then I remembered - Comic time is not real time.

How long have they been together, anyway - a couple of weeks/months in comic time?  It seems like a couple of years in real time!

I'm not gonna archive dive for this, maybe some of you with time on your hands can...  the semester started, mine are full!
