I don't know why you'd want to watch a game you would almost definintely already know the outcome of.

I do this all the time!

Sure but given that during my lifetime QPR has been a team of mediocrity and disappointment I'm going to reserve the right to gloat just a little while they're still on top of the league.

Fun fact: when I was living with my grandparents in Surrey in 2003 I went to see QPR play a game at Loftus Road. It was the 2002/03 season and QPR was in the second division, and when I went to see them play they were in the middle of an incredible run of results which saw them go on the the play-off game against Cardiff (which they lost 1-0 - with Cardiff enjoying the possibly not inconsiderable advantage of the game being played at Millenium Stadium, as Wembley was being redeveloped at that time). In the space of 14 games QPR won 10, lost 1, and drew 3 - including one 0-0 all draw at home against Crewe Alexandria in which they had two players sent off.

Which do you think was the game I saw?

Not a clue. I'd like to say something like "Well, they're better at home so..." but that'd be glossing over how they went 7-9 with a -97 regular season point differential. When you suck that bad, you can't really be called a frisky home team. It's really more like they're extra hopeless when on the road.

The 7-9 was strategy to come in under the radar?

Whatever. This game should never have been played at the Seahawks' home field. They just don't deserve the advantage.

Some truly beautiful photos from yesterday in this Guardian slideshow.

Howson with Fabregas' shirt after the game -

Lucky to get away with a draw in this one, I thought it was gonna be karmic revenge for laughing so hard at Man Utd last year but I'll take the replay. Should be a crackin' game.

Don't understand why Vela doesn't get more chances, Niklas Bendtner makes Pascal Cygan look like Zidane and should be shot into the centre of the sun.

FA Cup 3rd round weekend is one of the high points of the season, even if most of the 'big' games are shit, it's worth it for comedy results and Steven Gerrard red cards.

A stunning display of racing in the Cyclocross National Championships in Derby yesterday. Owing to laziness and a gravity/ice related matter I only made it for the last race and a half but well worth it. In the Elites race Paul Oldham got off to a dodgy start and was behind the favourite Ian Field whilst being dogged by Field's team mate Jody Crawforth for the first lap of a tough and complicated course. Oldham managed to find his form in the second lap and soon overhauled Field to develop a lead that he retained to the finish. Field managed to bit of a crash towards the end of the race and ended up cedeing a podium position to Crawforth in second and rising start Liam Killeen. Further back, Veteran Nick Craig, who had a pass to the Elites on the back of winning on Saturday delivered a respectable fifth place against racers who are mostly many years younger. Absolute legend.

All the action was commentated by the dulcet tones of Hugh Porter. You don't get a better Sunday afternoon than that.

Bit nervy about the cup tie with Killie tonight. With Miller on the way out we're going to be looking to Lafferty and Beattie to get the goals tonight. To be fair, I thought we'd be guff after Boyd left and it turned out we played better as a team. HOWEVER, I have a bad feeling about tonight. I'm hoping we'll win but I can see it going Kilmarnock's way by a goal. My heart says 2-0 Rangers, my head says 1-2 to Kilmarnock.

Reading you guys' commentary was as close as I got to watching the Arsenal game, although I did manage to foolishly place myself in the London transport network about three hours before kick-off, going the opposite way to the absolute floods. I was literally the only person on the up escaltor, sailing past the down escaltor jammed three people to a step. It was surreal.

I hate the Flyers with a personal passion (it is a long story), Dovey.

Even more so since they came from 0-3 down to beat the Bruins in the playoffs last year. That was devastating.

Thomas has a great record against the Flyers throughout his career so I'm sure he'll be trying to keep that up but the Flyers have a scoring average of comfortably more than 3 per game so any defense/Goalie are/is going to have trouble keeping them out this season.

Both previous matches were won be a margin of 3 points and the Bears are not the same team they were in the first half of the season. Take out Michael Turner and the Falcons offense falls flat on its face. The Seahawks are an awful (albeit young) team that caught a break against a glitchy Saints offense and a completely injured defense. Both will probably be close games, but I don't think I'll be surprised either way the wins roll.

The thing that annoys me about the Packers is knowing that they're as good as they are despite having 14 people on injured reserve. And that's not counting a couple guys they outright waived. Meanwhile the Bears have largely avoided injuries this year. Hope Cutler doesn't get too attached to that division title.

Apparently the Packers are on the short list of likely suitors for Asomugha too. Getting Aso plus all of their injured guys back would make them pretty fucking tough. I am rooting for the Packers at this point because I'm fucking sick of the Patriots and Jets, I hate Pete Carroll (although I did mildly enjoy the Hawks beating the Saints just because everyone was so convinced NO would stomp them), and because Aaron Rodgers played for Cal.

Not one that i've got into although I've watched some bits and pieces before. I think it's featured on things like Transworld Sport.

Hard to imagine it taking off in these parts, handball is a bit of a dirty word to most sports enthusiasts (enthusiasm oft limited to football).

There was a thread about this on another forum I frequent. I've always tried to catch the coverage of it during the Olympics (I think) because I just wanted to know but I never managed to.

Apparently Australia has a team!
Apparently we have no chance whatsoever of getting anywhere at all, but good on the Australian handball community for stepping up.

EDIT: Man if someone somewhere along the line just misread 'Austria' this is gonna be real embarrassing.

Arsenal losing to Ipswich sure took the shine off our draw at the Emirates. Especially since they were fielding a better team than against Leeds.

I suspect both us and Ipswich will be crushed in the second leg fixtures but I also suspect that Arsenal will be pulverised by Barcelona again.

Nah it's Arsenal mate we'll cock up one of the ties in embarrassing fashion and stroll the other.  Although it's impossible to predict which of the matches will have either outcome so just hope you draw the former.

And Barca is going to be a nightmare yep.

It's fun watching Packers-Falcons and thinking about how Rodgers only made the Pro-bowl as an alternate. Funniest part? He did really well in the fan voting, so it's actually the coaches and his peers that are apparently fuckin' morons.

Aaron Rodgers rules, I am officially on the Packers bandwagon since they're basically the only tolerable team left since the Steelers won.

I guess I don't care one way or another about the Bears but they don't have ex-Cal guys so that is what is swaying my decision right now.

I'm pretty much against the Bears right now. It's not really personal, since from a viewing standpoint I much prefer the division be competitive, but they've gotten pretty much every conceivable break they could have this season, which is kind of annoying. Basically, my dream scenario is the Packers making it to the Super Bowl (I care more about being right about teams than about the Pack losing. Barely) only to be absolutely crushed by an AFC team.

If the Bears win over Seattle today, new Governor Scott Walker may need to call out the National Guard to protect Wisconsinites at the Illinois border.

Bears vs. Packers for the right to go to the Super Bowl = WAR. Not for the players - for the fans.

Man trying to find a bar to watch the bulls play the heat last night was miserable with all the drunk football fans threatening violence if their TV;s were changed.

In better news, Bulls won, Bosh and James are both injured, and the Lakers made a decision to stop sucking, apparently. Really stoked for the Lakers/Thunder game.
