And, of course, I won't truly believe in the draft as the great equalizer unless the Cubs win the world series one of these centuries.

FYP. :D

So possibly there is some hope for the draft system :-)

Eliud Kipchoge - 26.2 miles - 2:00:25

There's some controversy surrounding this attempt but in the world of human endeavour, that's no easy task regardless of how it came about. I feel certain we will see the two hour barrier fall within the next decade.

A bit of a surprise win for Thomas yesterday in stage 1 and the shock departure of Valverde yesterday.

Two GC contenders crash and Kittel takes his tenth stage win.

Looks like the Tour de France may not be following its usual boring first week form. Anyone daring to make any jersey predictions yet?

Well a couple of weeks later I must say that if Warren Barguil keeps climbing mountains and getting in large leading groups he might as well win it for France. He lost a shitton of time in the first week but he's less than 10 minutes away now.

Would there be any feasible way to stagger the starting time on the last day, so the person in first starts first, followed by the person in second however amount of time they're behind later, and so forth, so the winner will always actually finish first?

He would need at least 10 minutes to get the minute needed to hold off Froome in the TT. Not going to happen. If he gets on  par with Contador none of the top 5 will let him get up the road. GC riders only take the polka dot jersey by happenstance, not by target. He's being allowed to go away in the breakaway groups, for now.

The real hope for France is pinned on Romain Bardet. He still needs to chuck 1m23s into Froome if he wants to stand a chance of wearing the yellow jersey in Paris and with two downhill finishes in three days, he may well do that. I reckon he'll at least overhaul Aru who is vulnerable due to lack of team around him.

Things to watch out for today:

Bardet and all of AG2R at the 2nd climb attempting to force a gap while the sprinters teams wet the bed.
Michael Matthews desperately trying to get ahead of Kittel in the intermediate sprint.
Steve Cummings in general.

Actually a AG2R, Sunweb, Dimension Data alliance today could be very damaging to the shape of the race if there's any crosswinds in the second half.

After today, Barguil is tied on for the polka dot but clearly not making a move on GC. Aru has practically put himself out of the running while Rigoberto Uran is a new and interesting threat having been through the Sky TT school. Still having hopes for Bardet. SL2 could get a bumper crop yet this year.

It's summer lad, cycling and cricket's order of day. You can keep football until after the summer hols.

And on that subject, Katie Archbald and Tom Pidcock both delivered stellar performances last night to win the National Circuit Racing Championships in Sheffield. And this morning, Annemiek Van Vlouten stormed it up the Col d' Izoard to take a commanding win on the first stage of La Course.

Agree! But that is a sport. I think athletics is one of the best sport. It is easy to understand who wins in comparison to some subjective sport like the figure skating

"Athletics" is known as "Track and Field" to those of us on the other side of the pond.

Track is, indeed, an interesting sport.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the University of Wisconsin at Madison has a football team that is UNDEFEATED in regular season play.

For context: there are currently two other teams in the NCAA Men's Division I Football Bowl Subdivision that are undefeated. One is the University of Central Florida. The other, the University of Alabama, is currently losing to their biggest rivals, Auburn University.

And Alabama lost. To be honest, I'm for any kind of upset or result that leads to exposing the current "playoff" system and cause it to collapse in its own ineptitude and favoritism. Go to a 16-team knockout playoff - each conference winner + 6 wildcards, and we'd have the same excitement of the basketball tournament, and we wouldn't be leaving out a lot of schools who have arguably earned the right to at least try for the national championship.

Joking aside, with Germany already out, I was pulling for Mexico to take the cup.

Last night's game with Belgium and Japan was something else.

Whereas I wanted Belgium to win (for reasons) I think it was pretty cruel that they got their goal when they did (with 10 seconds to go). Just think ti would have been slightly less cruel getting it in extra time when Japan could have at least had time to try and fight back...

Great game though!
