Fuck I love this song. I've heard it at least once a week for a year and a half now (it's another favourite for putting on at work) and I always notice something new about it.

Fuck yes +1

Man this thread shot up quick. 4 pages already?

I have a feeling that this thread is gonna be at least up to 9 pages when I wake up, in 6 hours.

But did it kill the song for you?  So many people are vetoing stuff for kind of disliking minor parts of songs, I feel.

Isn't that kind of the point?

Coldplay are probably one of the most disliked bands in the world because it's hip to hate Coldplay.

FYP

They're not the greatest thing since sliced bread but they have a couple decent tunes per album.

All I can think of everytime I see this thread title is Coldplay.

I mean, who can really get up in a ruffle over Coldplay? Seriously? Even if you don't like them it's kind of hard to hate them with a seething passion. It's pretty easy to just go 'meh' and feel nothing over them.

That's a joke, right? Apart from their music being so bland that it brings tears to the eyes the singer is an annoying wanker too.

I guess, but doing it that way would probably leave us with a list as long as my arm. Do we want that? I don't know! This thread is kind of nebulous and whacky!

No I thought the point was if you liked the song as a whole, you wouldn't veto it.

That was, in fact, the impression I was under.  Hell, I haven't vetoed some songs that I've had strong opinions on sections of, because I didn't dislike the song as a whole.  If we're not doing it that way, then I need to know.

Also, I found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5nhxKAx9xM
Unlistenable.  It was really boring, I could barely make it out, and the tempo seemed nonexistent.

This was why I thought that people only needed to like a song as a whole:

Simple challenge:  find a song that every regular on the forum likes listening to.  Not loves necessarily, mind you, likes.

Okay, then, I'll put it as a personal opinion: I have pretty much no feeling on Coldplay. I like a few of their songs from when I was younger and still listened to pop radio and enjoyed it (Rush of Blood the Head, that timeframe), but other than that it's just like...okay. It's there. It provokes no reaction, good or bad.

That's how I feel for the most part but occasionally they'll have a song that I enjoy. Off of their latest album it was "Lovers in Japan."

Argh!

Arrrrrgh!

Edit: Still pissed that someone vetoed CCR. That sort of killed any hopes I had.

To be fair the post above yours shows that we're agreeing on a fairly large amount of things at the moment.

Fuck Coldplay to hell, though.

Seaside Rendezvous (or any one of dozens of other Queen songs) would make a far better nomination anyway.

It's funny to watch the trend emerge that as a community of young white people, we are most apprehensive about vetoing old school classics made by black artists.

Seriously considering re-nominating Sam Cooke because I feel that strongly about it.

Duke Ellington - C Jam Blues. Short, not repetitive but not overly complex (12-bar blues IIRC, but with almost constant improvisation from someone), no screwy use of instruments, seems like even if people don't love it, few people won't dislike it.

Why am I nominating something that is an old school classic by a black guy? Because if I posted Schoenberg, Webern, or Berg in here I'm pretty sure you uncultured jerks would veto it immediately. Learn to love the atonality.

Tongue was in cheek there. Schoenberg and his students made some very inaccessible music, I don't know anyone else that likes them, although I haven't really spoken to many people about expressionist music.

Which one? or both?

The album version, but only when it doesn't include "Reign of Love." So, not the nearly 7 minute one.
