fuck.  oh well I'll try again.  if you could really veto a song like The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove, though, I doubt any of these will stay for long.

C'mon, even "Red Right Hand"?

Also, I second the veto on the Cranberries' "Zombie". I know I don't need to, but I want to. It is a terrible terrible song by a band who should have stuck to writing pretty jangly lovelorn pop songs.

I'm going to have to be a dick and veto that Duke Ellington song just because I've always found it pretty unexciting compared to most of his other famous compositions of the same period. As a compensation I'll offer "Ko-Ko" and "Cottontail". I'd really love to suggest "Concerto for Cootie" but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a YouTube video for it.

I'm also going to be an uncultured hick and veto Ride of the Valkyries, even though it's a classic, as it is massively overplayed and conjures up memories of some awful, awful advertisements for me (not to mention "kill the wabbit").

C'mon, even "Red Right Hand"?

Actually, I wouldn't veto that. It's tolerable.

As an aside, does anybody else think Marlon Brando is busting out his air guitar chops in that photo?

Vetoing Fela Kuti & Afrika 70 for being long and boring.

Beatles - Helter Skelter
Fats Waller - Ain't Misbehavin'

Oh so there's enough stuff been vetoed that it's actually worth suggesting things again

Agalloch- Limbs (I figure it's got appeal to metalheads and people who like shoegaze plus the opening feedbacky-part and then the first chord progression are basically unimpeachable)

Bruce Springsteen- Thunder Road beautiful amazing live version with just piano & vox + album version with full band  (I know there are certain people who will veto Springsteen immediately on principle but hey fuck you guys)

The Gaslight Anthem- Great Expectations

Limbs isn't the Agalloch song I'd choose,, but ok

also

Maybe people should start explaining why they're vetoing certain songs, so that we can make better suggestions?

Just saying.  I had every song I chose vetoed by one guy.  I'm not demanding to know why because I'm annoyed (well, I kind of am, but that's beside the point).  I'd just like to know why he thought they were bad songs so I can choose something more suitable.

It's not my favourite Agalloch song. I explained why I chose it, because I thought it would have good cross-genre appeal.

Also saying something is boring is no better a justification that just saying you don't like it, sorry! I don't care if people explain why they don't like things anyway so whatever, guys.

No that was a serious post and the irony was too good to pass up. It really is one of my least favourite Fugazi songs and one which I think demonstrates the charms of the band the least.

Anyway, I won't veto either on principle, and I really, really dig God Only Knows, but Veto Good Vibrations because it gives me the shits on many levels.

Die Verbannten Kinder Evas - Cease to Breathe

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gzs6StMpocI

VETO because it dredges up memories from my first music history class.  God it was so boring, and I don't think I will ever be able to listen to anything even approximating early music because of it.

John Cale - Barracuda

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWKV9NEs6Ls

VETO because that keyboard is really annoying, and the song is incredibly boring.

I'm going to veto everything on this page except for The Zombies.

And everything that was posted after the list was last posted on the last page that was not already vetoed, outside of Bob Dylan.

Updated list:

Beatles - Helter Skelter
Fats Waller - Ain't Misbehavin'
Moondog - Lament I "Bird's Lament"
Duke Ellington - Ko-Ko
Duke Ellington - Cottontail
The Zombies - I'll Call You Mine
Bob Dylan - Don't Think Twice It's Alright

I believe Duke Ellington was vetoed unfortunely (also I am furrowing my brow at you for vetoing Sir Duke)

Also what the hell is up with vetoing something because it's boring.  I mean, doesn't that generally mean it's inoffensive?

The title of the thread is a misnomer. The precedent established by previous pages of this thread isn't that a song you don't veto fails to offend you, but rather that you actually like it. "Like" however, is also being used as a somewhat loose term, a minimum of positive feeling and appreciation for a song being sufficient to prevent vetoing.

Also, a song you find boring can be offensive in the sense that it bores you when you'd rather not be bored, and you're meant to be listening to the song, rather than playing the song while doing something else entirely and not retaining any meaningful memory of what the song was like. In this case, you may find at the end of the song it was a waste of your time, or you'd rather have stopped it part way through instead of bothering with the whole thing.
