Looks like all the stuff I'm interested in is happening on Saturday. So I might try and fly in Friday evening, if that's possible. Judges?

Since PAX ends earlyish Sunday, what would you guys say to getting together for dinner or going to a bar that night? I think everything ends by 6, so yeah. Come hang ouuuutttttt!

Sounds like a good idea... I don't know if I'll be able to do it, I'm pretty sure I have at least one exam the next day and I want to be absolutely sure I am in Colorado that day. That having been said I can probably leave by like midnight and the 2 hour time rollback will give me time to sleep.

How easy is it to smuggle an 18 year old into a bar in America again?

Depends on the city. Chicago never cards, and Seattle cards like a fiend. Not sure about Boston, ask a native.

Around here it depends on what's going on - if it's normal bar stuff, nobody cards at the door (can't drink inside, though). If there's a show or the like, there's a guy making sure nobody under 21 even gets in.

Or if they card at the door they may just put an X on your hand to tell the bartender you're underaged. But yeah, you should be able to get in. Most places, around here anyways, allow people that are 18+, but you most likely will not be able to drink.

Most bars in boston do not allow anyone under 21 in.  Some do, so it's really hit or miss.  I get carded pretty consistently, though.

Yeah, it's funny. I don't get carded anywhere in town anymore. Boston though? All the time.

Boston is the only place in the United States I've ever been carded (for 18+ things).

I went into Leavitt & Pierce in Harvard Square, picked up an expensive wooden pipe, a pack of pipe cleaners, a tool, and two ounces of Black and Gold tobacco. At the counter the guy sold me everything but the tobacco and said, "Sorry man, the state of Massachusetts means business."

I have had numerous similar experiences there. It's a state rooted in Puritanism.

In the UK you can't even sell papers to under 18s, I don't think you'd be able to sell pipes either.

Boston is one straight laced place I guess. Hmm. How about pubs? Do they card (like some places round here) for any establishment that serves alcohol or just actual bars?

Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Cambridge
250 Monsignor O Brien Hwy

We were planning on going for something downtown initially, but then we found this one had free parking which would save us a ridiculous amount of money.

(edit: apparently you can catch a bus to Sullivan Square on the Orange line..)

Yeah it's like a 15 minute bus trip to Sullivan Square. Also I'm liking that there seems to be some shopping centres around me. America is usually great to buy cheap clothes, so I can sort my wardrobe out for the next year or so whilst I'm there.

Me, Kat and Shane will be showing up sometime late afternoon Friday. Do we have any plans for the weekend yet outside of Sunday night and PAX stuff?

Also, since we're all kinds of scattered in the city we should probably all exchange numbers if we want to coordinate much.

I think I may have yours and I have Shane's.

I don't know exactly when I'm arriving Thursday night (we're leaving super freaking early Thurs morning and it's about a 14 hour drive), but as for plans, I don't really have any. I know the guys I'm going with want to tour the Sam Adams brewery, which will be on Friday or Saturday, but other than that, I have no idea. Most of the things I want to do appear to be on Friday or the first half of Saturday, so yeah. I'll probably just be following my friends around, so let me know if you want to organize a meal or whatever together.

I am arriving later Thursday night and leaving Monday morning. If you do not have my phone number and want/need it, PM me! Otherwise I will see you guys around or text you to see where you're hanging around so I can stalk you. I am totally up with having breakfast/lunch/dinner at least once with all of you. Just let me know when is the most convenient and doesn't interfere with any panels you really want to see.

Man, there's a panel I want to attend on Sunday that is literally 4 hours before I have to leave. Otherwise this is really the one I want to see, because I internet know some of these guys:

Quote
But Thou Must: Choice in Games
Naga Theatre
Saturday, 8:30pm

Role-playing games need choice to propel the plot and motivate the player. The methods can vary from smoke and mirrors to extreme branching reactivity - what is the right balance to strike in a game? This panel dissects SEGA and Obsidian's Alpha Protocol, the issues involved with introducing choice into a real-world spy genre, and presenting the consequence to the player - along with the consequences it had for the development team.
Panelists Include: Joseph Bulock [Cinematics Designer, Obsidian Entertainment], Shon Stewart [Lead Cinematics Animator, Obsidian Entertainment], Matt MacLean [Lead Systems Designer, Obsidian Entertainment], Chris Avellone [Lead Designer, Obsidian Entertainment]

Other than that, I'm waiting to hear on a private pass to a Sega event, but beyond that I'm up for whatever. Who all is actually going to PAX?

I have been invited to a private demo of Alpha Protocol next Saturday March 27th at 3 PM, at the Sheraton hotel (39 Dalton St), which is just outside the Hynes convention center.

I can bring one person with me. Seeing as how it's not actually on Con grounds, you probably won't even need a pass. Anybody up for it? Steve? Kat? Anybody?

Heh, so basically I have those two things on Saturday - the Alpha Protocol demo and the Obsidian panel. My Friday Night, early Saturday and Sunday are all free for non-PAXy stuff. But I'll probably be antsy about getting to that demo on time. I take it you're coming with, Steve? Also does anybody want to go to the Obsidz panel with me at 8:30? Steve? Linds?

Saturday, if I'm not going to Jon's, I was going to the classic arcade panel and then heading over to the concert.

Looks like most of the things I want to see are on Friday, Saturday until about 3 and then after 8, and the closing ceremony on Sunday. I want to go shopping at some point because I have 3 friends who have birthdays this week/next week, so I'm going to go looking for some funky stuff. Any ideas? I know Newbury St has some places (and I'm definitely going to Newbury Comics and Johnny Cupcakes) and I know my friends and I are going to go eat at Cheers and I remember there being shops up there.

Once I find out when we're going (maybe Sunday for lunch), anyone want to come eat at Cheers?

Yeah, the Obsidian panel will be determined by whether or not we are doing anything at Jon's that night and how lenient they are with people using each other's passes, since Shane has offered his up if need be.

The passes don't have names on them or any sort of recognizable identification (barcode, etc.) on them, so I don't think it will be an issue.
