Guys I am going to be in NYC on July 18th for at least a week, maybe more like 10 days or even a fortnight (we have free accomodation so it's not much trouble to stretch it). Maybe keep that in mind?

Oh poo, I was really hoping to try and go to this but I am pretty sure I won't be able to afford it at all, what with wanting to pay off my debt to my mum as quickly as possible and now paying more rent and going overseas being really expensive.

:( Maybe some other time.

Fucking Custom Muppets

Something about the gaping mouths and staring, dead eyes of those muppets in the last photo makes me think of Real Dolls and that's just not a crossover I ever wanted to imagine.

Yeah only the blue face looks like even a semblance of a smile. Also for 'custom' muppets there really don't look to be that many options for everything, except noses, which is the thing you really need to customise least.

I will look into this statement.

No, I just have other commitments which will prevent me from attending this one. Location is more or less irrelevant.

I said a while ago that I basically the ideal situation as far as I'm concerned is that there are sporadic meet-ups with a smaller attendance if and when people can make it. Since I said that, it's naturally turned out exactly like that. There have been good meet-ups (again) in Boston, Sydney, Toronto, Glasgow etc. I think it's cool how people can now fit these things around their life realistically rather than feeling like there will be one big thing each year.

Well, I kind of like the one-big-thing a year now, because I cannot go fly and hang out with people any ol' place willy-nilly anymore.

Such events don't rule out the possibility of having smaller meet ups either. I mean, realistically, if I were to ever attend one I'd really, REALLY want to plan around it because frankly that's the way I feel comfortable doing things. I have found through experience that I prefer to be pretty ambitious when I do travel, so just winging it with whatever resources I have available takes a lot of the interest out of it for me. The last time I did seat of the pants traveling ended up prominently featuring NYC, drunken friends whom I ended up subsidizing, a knife and a shitty hostel with glass on the floor from a broken crack pipe. Makes for a decent story but the trip itself was pretty bleh.

It's cause my dad and mom used to work in New York and I got a free ticket every year or so from their work to go and visit them, and apparently I haven't cashed in on one of them. I think I also have to use it before a certain date.

I definitely see the pros and cons to both kinds, but in the long run I'm from Maryland, and none of the Maryland people here ever have a meetup. Also with school and money the way they are being able to focus on the large meets just takes a lot of headache away for me personally.

I will not deny that I enjoy both. I get to see folks I will never get to see any other way at the bigguns which is a huge bonus, but I am more comfortable socially with the smaller meetups.

I think it's a little silly to eleminate either possibility honestly.
