Also, am I the only one amused by Marten jumping from sex-toys to guitars, like it's almost the same to him? Spoken like a true guitarist.  :-D

I guess I'm not a true guitarist then.

I don't think my old guitar would have anything nice to say about me!

Jeph was right with the "old QC" vibe though, this particular story arc has been great but the last few comics seem to have been a bit more tongue in cheek (a longer tongue than usual?).

What I love about this comic in comparison to CAD and stuff like that is that its just continuously weird and funny. Even the serious comics are interesting. Its an intriguing comic, so many others falter after a couple of years and some lazy story arcs, but Jeph keeps stuff fresh in your mind. It'll be interesting to see how Marigold takes all this in. Maybe she'll hide behind that book about the crusades again once she steals it...again.

Is Marten becoming a sort of father stand-in to Faye?

And am I the last one to notice this?

Makes sense, especially given that she's effectively asking Marten's permission to date a boy in the first panel.  But, I wonder what her reaction would have been had he actually said he'd be pissed...  Also, Faye's tsundere personality seems to be in high gear tonight, I think Jeph's been on an anime binge again...

I keep my acoustic in one room, my electric in another. Am I depriving them, or saving myself?

Does anyone else think that Faye is just searching for reasons to not come out of her comfort zone at this point?

Of course the whole Sven situation was a setback, but in a way, she really went out of her way to keep him as emotionally distant as possible. It was as if she used sex to prevent making an emotional connection with Sven. Before they hooked up, they were on the path to become pretty close friends, even as they were antagonizing each other. Did Faye start a physical relationship to derail the feelings that she and Sven were developing?

I also think that Faye is the type of person who (like me) is afraid to pursue what they really want, not because they are afraid they will fail, but that they are afraid they will succeed.

If Faye and Angus begin a genuine romantic relationship, Faye will no longer be able to hide in her little (emotional) cave, whatever happens, things will be different, and that frightens her. (It scares the shit out of me!)
Correctamundo!* (Although I wouldn't deprive Sven of his part in letting the relationship deteriorate into sex-sessions)

*And by the way, whoever it was that resurrected my inner Fonz, thanks awfully. Care to explain how to shut him up now? Ayyyy! Oh, for Christsakes.

Not the Sven/ Faye blame apportionment, nooooo! Why do people keep bringing that up, all it leads to is pain and flames.

As for Fonzarelli, just jump over a shark a few times and the audience will take care of canceling him for you.

Step 1: Find a shark.
Step 2: Jump over it.
DONE.

You're welcome.

Not just the recent arc but today's strip in particular is very classic QC, with that sort of bittersweet/snarky/silly thing happening.  Me like.  Although I gotta say that panel 1 is cracking me up a little bit more than panel 4 here, exclusively because of Mieville still clinging to Pintsize's foot.  Determined kitteh is determined.

No, no, that show died loooong before any shark was jumped.

That was just nailing the coffin shut.

Panel 1 was cute with Mieville, but I thought the human part was weird - Faye asking Marten for... what, permission?  Approval?  And in such a roundabout way - "would you be pissed..."  I mean, what was she expecting?  He'd be pissed with her for dating when he's happily dating someone else?  Or pissed with her for dating Angus, whom he specifically checked out for her back when awkwardness was defeated?  I mean, where did that come from?

She's a master of projection, our Faye.  (mistress of projection sounds like a dominatrix who works in a movie theatre...)  She's really reaching for a reason to not go there, I think something more is bothering her.

I think the comfort zone thing is a big part of it, but this girl is more self-sabatoging than anything.  She put her shields halfway up this time, let them be partially breached, and now she's asking if she should lower them.  It's a done decision, Faye.  Stop asking if it's right!

Marigold will recover.  Try treating her like an adult instead of rewrapping the cocoon, and she'll be fine.  She know all along anyway.  Let her deal with her self-deceptions, and you deal with yours!

God, I've got to stop talking in the second person to these comics...

There—I acknowledge you both. Unfortunately, I live about two hundred miles from the coast, so that solution may take a while—if any sharks are left there after the god-damned oil spill.

She's a master of projection, our Faye.  (mistress of projection sounds like a dominatrix who works in a movie theatre...)  She's really reaching for a reason to not go there, I think something more is bothering her.
No, mistress of projection sounds like the alt-name for a super-heroine, like The Maid of Steel or The Amazing Amazon. Maybe some sort of illusionist or psionic.

I think the comfort zone thing is a big part of it, but this girl is more self-sabatoging than anything.  She put her shields halfway up this time, let them be partially breached, and now she's asking if she should lower them.  It's a done decision, Faye.  Stop asking if it's right!
I agree, and I understand this part. You spend all your time behaving one way, especially if you've formerly convinced yourself it was benefiting you, and it is abso-fucking terrifying to not do that, however much 'healthier' everyone, including you, knows it to be. Some verifying helps, and yes, it's often taken to absurd lengths. Maybe we should be glad Faye's not asking Hanners, or Pintsize.

Marigold will recover.  Try treating her like an adult instead of rewrapping the cocoon, and she'll be fine.  She know all along anyway.  Let her deal with her self-deceptions, and you deal with yours!
Well said!

Blargh. Hopefully this date will be a disaster, so we don't have to see anymore of Angus McBoring than we absolutely have to.

And then Sven can come in from his wandering in the No-Lady Desert, and we can start building back to Svaye.

You know it's bad when Marten is telling you to take bold and decisive action.

Good catch, but there's been another instance of Marten telling someone to go for it, arguably hypocritically. In general Marten doesn't seem to be much for giving advice, though.

OK, does anyone else think that Jeph overdid it with the shadows? I mean poor Faye looks like a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piebald>piebald[/url] in today's (Tuesday) strip. I like that Jeph is continually pushing himself to improve his artwork, but unless his ultimate goal is hyperrealism, there comes a point where technique becomes more of a distraction than a plus, especially in a comic format.

Faye is proven right, but unfortunately, so is John Cusack.  Which gives yet more ammunition to guys who act like that, further annoying girls who hate those guys.

Because something similar has never happened before...

But that wasn't similar- it was after the fact, and defnitely not permission/approval seeking.  More of a guilty admission, followed by concern for Marten's feelings.  And his response made it pretty clear that it wasn't an issue!

Faye asking Marten for... what, permission?  Approval?    I mean, where did that come from?
Oh, just the first 500 or so comics, where the main romantic tension was the seemingly eternal
will-they-or-won't-they, Marten patiently waiting for Faye to be ready...  He took her in, was her best friend, wanted her, was patient and gentlemanly, and as we all know, never got her.

But... but... look, Marten's not her father/older brother, he's not Angus' best bud (ok, maybe he is, we don't really know much about Angus' social life), there's no reasonable (or even unreasonable) reason for him to be pissed about her dating Angus!

And she even admits as much in then next panel, she's just being junior high about it.

I dunno, it just seemed to come from left field.  And apparently it won't be resolved with the next comeek!

In true Fonz fashion, one swift WAP with the heel of the palm, applied judiciously to the left temple, should do the trick...
That gave me pain, but nothing else, really.

See?  Worked already!

there's no reasonable (or even unreasonable) reason for him to be pissed about her dating Angus!

And i maintain there IS  (theoretically, potentially, but Marten's so good-natured, not really)  -  Marten did everything he could for almost five hundred strips to date Faye, and now she's about to give this Angus-come-lately the prize she never gave him.  Didst thou skim those first few hundred QCs and miss Marten's long-drawn-out frustration, punctuated by punchings?

The similarity is that in both cases Faye was worried that Marten would be offended that after telling him she couldn't date anybody, that she was doing something with someone other than him.

EDIT: Is Marten good-natured, or just overcontrolled? Shuddering is in order at the thought of what would happen if he finally snapped.

The only thing I know about 'Alliance' and 'Horde' is from Mountain Dew commercials.

You can't play a night elf mage yet. Dale must be from the FUTURE.
Also, he better watch his back. Warsong is a PvP server.

I used to be quite into a WWII air combat simulator. The Allied forces are represented by red, the Axis by Blue. On forums, on servers, even in person, the divide is quite profound, and one can tell red from blue usually just by reading forum signatures.

It is Serious Business.

I've never been involved with any MMORPG, but I imagine the 'Alliance vs. Horde' (is it?) division is just as deep.

No, that's "Chinese Delivery Man" - Dale's just a regular pizza delivery guy.

Of course there are. Have you heard of the "Tea Party"?
But yeah, Mari-bear really needs to re-train her "nice lewt" skills to be more "nice ass" directed.
