QC at work...
« on: 29 Nov 2010, 03:47 »

I was going through the IT logs looking for proof that someone was looking at porn at work.     Sometimes I really don't like my job because I have to punish people.

Looking through the logs,  I realized full 2/3ds of the office staff reads Questionable Content, not including Wife Unit and I.

I ordered a QC book for the break room bookshelf today because of that.

I find it humorous,  given this discovery well over 3/4 of my social group reads this comic.     8-)

I recently received a document from the UK police detailing the steps that IT staff need to take when investigating possible child abuse pictures in computers in order to have a defence against prosecution for seeing the photos during the investigation! - because seeing the pictures at all means that the offence of "making" the image has been committed by causing the computer to display them, regardless of the circumstances.  The steps include having two appropriate people at the computer at all times, and logging by hand on paper every individual keystroke and mouse click made during the investigation.

Oh nothing of that sort happened here.   Just a general sort of porn.    Rather tame.    In fact for a Canadian bimbo she is quite attractive in an over-inflated sort of way.

...hrumph can't have that sort of thing in a professional environment though no sir.

Well you're lucky, once I worked at a cybercafe and some random dude came asking for porn. I was surprised and somewhat amused, and asked "what kind of porn?", and this guy said "well, you know, kiddy porn". I just could shout "get the fuck out from here before I call the cops" and the guy ran away.

It's been dead here at work for the past few days, so I was able to catch-up on my QC reading on my DroidX.

My co-workers keep asking me what's so damn funny. I have a feeling if I were to repeat any of angry bird's dialogue, they'd send me to H.R.!

When i worked in IT i came up with the simplest way to stop porn at work.

Send out a memo (on friday) stating that starting monday all internet activity will be logged, categorized by user, printed and posted next to the time clock friday morning for all to see.

The threat alone was enough to make it stop.

That sort of thing ever gets implemented, I'll have to punch a hole in the firewall and just tunnel home. screw your logs, broheim.

...of course, I'm neither a normal user, nor a problem-generator for IT, so I don't think I'll ever encounter that.

So we've gone from bragging about my employees reading QC at work...  to how IT people do nothing but print fake logs and blackmail people.    Fantastic!    :-D

I worked in IT for a bit. The company was growing and the internet connection was getting saturated. The director of infrastructure asked for a list of the top internet users,  intending to talk to them about what they were using the connection for. Most everyone in the department made the list. We decided to post pone it for the next day when the counts reset and everyone in the department knew to not read their comics until AFTER the list was printed.

I have a "server" (really just a small home desktop) that I can ssh into using video forwarding. I then use my favorite browser to access the internet using my connection from home. Only thing that would show up on my log is that I am connecting to some IP address a lot not specifically what I am accessing. I highly recommend this to anyone who just can not wait to get home before viewing their favorite comics / videos.  :-P

Or... you could just "work"... but, that is no fun!

I should have an Oilers/Flames joke going here, but I'm stumped.

Its ok, it happens to everyone at one stage or another. Its nothing to feel ashamed about.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll just go over there and laugh for an hour or so. Don't worry, it has nothing to do with you.

I can't tell you the name of the site because that would be LINKING TO PORN.   Eventually it'll dawn on you as to what place she's from... and if I'm any more obvious about it I could get Moderated... with a SHOVEL TO THE HEAD.... or perm-banned.
