This is the thead where share and talk about our own music
« Reply #750 on: 15 Dec 2014, 23:02 »

I feel like it was time to move on. As moving as it was to watch Matt while we played that song, I know it hurt him to keep playing it over and over. It is to him what "Fire And Rain" is to James Taylor; a song about losing your best friend.

Which, as a cruel twist of fate, is far and away his biggest and best hit, in the case of both artists.

I suspect he won't post about it on here, but apparently the boss is back in the studio for a few days.

How did this happen?  :psyduck:
I like it though

This is based around a bassline I wrote when I was about sixteen and never did anything with, so in recording it, it kind of turned into a bass duet with accompaniment by guitar. I oddly like it. Needs a bit more work to get some mistakes out and I need to get rid of that hiss, but otherwise it's everything I dreamt of at sixteen

Not my music, but my step-brother-in-law's.  He's solely responsible for my 4-year old walking around singing "Strawberry Fields", and he does all his own music and art.  He says he's influenced by The Beatles (obviously) and Dr. Dog and a few other local bands in the Maryland area, but I think he sounds a fair bit like Women (and Grizzly Bear, from time to time).  He's actually pretty good, for an 18-year old kid, and I'm not saying that with even a hint of nepotism.

This is the music I make. Influenced by various classic indie bands. My music was once featured in a Tumblr blog in a post about bands that sound like Guided By Voices.

Just put this out. I'm proud of most of it. Possibly my most cohesive album yet, in that every song has electric guitars, bass, and drums.

For irritating legal and trademark reasons, I won't be able to use my birth name to release my solo album when it comes out. I do, however, have a gift for awful word play, so I came up with a pseudonym.

You sure? I remember hearing of a case (admittedly in Scotland, so not necessarily relevant to your case) where a Mr McDonald, who ran a chippy, won against McDonald's-the-cardboard-seller.

EDIT: A quick Google around the subject doesn't find that particular case, but there are similar ones.

So, a while ago I applied to get into a Sound Engineering degree, using a mixture of covers from forumites and some of my own music.
It worked, I got in, and the course is great! So, here are said songs.
I honestly think this version of Warm Suburban Autumns is one of the best things I've ever recorded.
Warm Suburban Autumns (originally by Gareth)
[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/the-best-worst-idea/warm-suburban-autumns[/soundcloud]
Mr Heath (originally by Patrick)
[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/the-best-worst-idea/mr-heath[/soundcloud]
Oct 31st (originally by Speak Friend, mates of Patrick's)
[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/the-best-worst-idea/oct-31st[/soundcloud]

And my original, finally at a standard I'm okay with:

So My band PHOTON just recorded our EP.

It's a concept thing about traveling through space only to be destroyed by gamma radiation from a dead planet lightyears away. Or something.

Stoner doom sludge. uhh. I dont know what it is.

I've been inactive for decades, until April last year when I got Caustic for Android; most of the stuff I've made in the past 12 months has been done in Caustic.

Last December I got a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface and Ableton Live 9 Lite, so I hope to soon be making more stuff with real instruments like my bass guitar, my Yamaha keyboard, and my Chapman Stick.
And also record better-quality vocals - existing stuff was either recorded with my tablet's microphone, or with a Radio Shack vocal mic plugged into the Windows notebook's mic jack.

Anyway, here's my page: https://soundcloud.com/stephenkarnas
There's a mix of electronic, rock, and rap there; some covers and some originals. Plus a live band recording from 1992.

I've been avoiding putting up any of my United States songs because I wanted to record them in semi-decent quality before I put them online, and this one is in dire need of a new vocal take, but I am sooooo pleased with the guitars that I had to share it.

Tell me about it. 90% of what I record is made up on the spot. That is a gift in itself if you're part of a jam band, but I'm not.

It also explains why I never go back and rerecord things.

I've been up to some stuff too!

As long as we are putting our music up on SoundCloud:  paganaidd

Note:  username of "paganaidd", since "celticgeek" was already taken by Marc Gunn - and he has some good stuff on there.

These were not "impromptu", I rehearsed for long time, and recorded several versions before I decided that these were the best I could do at the time.

Love the folk, celticgeek! It's beautiful (and slightly haunting, depending on what you're watching whilst listening)  :)

Last week I recorded stuff for a bunch of sound engineering students. The result of one is possibly the best cover songs I've done in a while.
Did everything except the drums on this one, and yes, in the beginning, that's a goddamn melodica :P

Making a hugely half arsed attempt to monetise my music.

Just put a picture of my face as the album art, because why the fuck not.

£1 to download three of my songs.

I expect to make, AT LEAST 10p.

Hopefully this will help me get the balls to actually pay for some real recording time.

Recorded another all-live, handful-of-days album with my best friend. Him and I, acoustic guitars, nothing else.

This is our shamelessly poptastic R'n'Bish song, the only one we co-wrote on this album. I'm the left speaker, he's in the right.

It's only temporarily on my page until I can get a proper band page running, because I want to try and make an attempt to actually monetise our music.

Olivia De Havilland Mosquitoes? Brilliant!  They fly very fast, and bomb and strafe Warner Brothers.

My band did a thing.
Metal where I could understand the lyrics! :-o  Is that even allowed?

I took today off work with a view to writing, recording and putting online some new music. I wrote two songs from scratch. I was aiming for four and I managed two more half-songs that weren't worth finishing, so here's these two.

I may have ripped off Big Star a lot for the first one.

I've never recorded any music and only played in front of an audience a handful of times. I mostly just do it for myself for fun, relaxation, and personal edification. When it comes to music my hobby is trying to create solo acoustic guitar versions of harder and heavier songs.

Its funny I only get comments on the name from guys 50-70+ yrs old. I may have been too narrow in my cleverness, demographically.

I made a new thing!

This is a remix of a hip hop track "Ralph Bakshi" by Kabuto the Python. I added a 16-bar verse of my own as SHLF LIFE, and completely rebuilt the instrumental.
There is no sequencing or looped samples on this track - it's all played by human players (my brother played the drums and I played everything else.)
