They're arguing at each other, not with each other. (by that I mean that they are in a stressful situation and rather than turn to each other as comrades, they (or at least Dora) are turning on each other as enemies.)

I'm just saying that Dora's a racecar, and she's running in the red. And it's dangerous to have a racecar running in the fuckin' red. It could blow.Of course Faye is a mushroom-cloud-layin' mothafucka, mothafucka! She's super-fly TNT! She's the guns of the Navaronne!

Doesn't that hurt? </rimshot>

Are we seeing Dora on the verge of a breakdown? As more and more of her insecurities come to the surface, is Dora's grip on her responsibilities slipping? We already know she's going to be lonely out in Amherst, especially if Penelope and Hanners are to believed, and in a sense, she could be frozen out of the social circle, while Marten will still remain the centre of it all. Its kinda obvious that Dora is beginning to fall apart at the seams at the moment.

I see a lot of screaming in the future, and a lot of it will be from Dora.

She forgot to roast extra coffee beans once.  Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Now if it happens several times within a short timespan, then there might be deeper issues at work.

Its not just the coffee beans and forgetting to roast them. Theres the general snappiness, the frayed nerves, the exhaustion.

Speaking of which, perhaps this is foreshadowing of an impending promotion? I never though I'd be saying this of Faye, but considering how much initiative she's taken recently on CoD's behalf, perhaps she's finally becoming the store manager material Dora's been looking for? Dora will take some convincing of that, of course-and she'll also have to let go a little and actually share her bean-roasting process-something I'm sure she's HIGHLY reluctant to do.

Faye's already practically an assistant manager. She's got a key, she can close and open the shop on her own, and....well based on what we've seen she's pretty much Dora's right-hand barista.

Primal Scream Therapy might work with Dora. (cue "Shout" by Tears For Fears.)

Only if it's directed at a certain "better than you" brother.

It seems most of you are predicting doom here now, so I feel a need to voice my disagreement.

I happen to have just finished re-reading the whole thing. Yes, starting at number one not too long ago and my browser history tells me I've read more than a thousand strips since yesterday morning (failed exams makes worn-out students pretty dumb, yeah). I don't know if this makes my thoughts on the subject more or less credible, though...

Yes, Dora is worn out in most ways possible and doesn't handle things very good right now. She is mad with Faye, more severe and in a slightly (note only slightly) different way then we've seen before. But we've seen her being this mad with Marten, and she didn't break up with him because of that - not at all. She broke up with him because she was mad with herself, something that at least Faye did notice at the time (but possibly not the readers).

Probably Dora is due for some kind of breakdown, but it's not gonna ruin her, nor her business or her relationship with Faye. Not more than temporary, anyway. Eventually she will be moving forward with her issues and work a lot better than before, you guys need to remember she just started going to therapy. Heck, for all we know, she could even be on some damn medication right now!

I'm quite sure she will be friends with Marten again before strip 2100. Correct me in half a year if I was wrong! :D

Hear, hear!

We've seen Dora snippy about work before - it's stressful to run your own business, and messing up only increases that.  She's having a bad day.  That's all.  Sure, for us it's lasted about a week, but really, who wouldn't  be a bit snappy?  And she'll probably turn around and realize what she's doing next time we see her.

With luck, she'll even realize Faye's right, and that Raven could be distracting enough to the customers that they may not notice the store-bought.  Just put "Crappy Roast) on the specials board...

If Jeph was really thinking, Raven could be the calming influence to keep things from exploding. It's not like she hasn't taken charge before (the whole "taskmaster Raven" thing from 542).

Dora will snap out of this. She might need a vacation though? I doubt she has had one since QC started. Unfortunately that means leaving an assistant manager in charge, and until now there hasn't been a single person she would trust with the job. As others have said, Faye might be ready. But would Dora also need to teach her the secret roasting process?

Pennelope is pretty level-headed for day to day business, and the exceptions are unlikely to cause problems (unless lots of patrons mention Hemingway). There's a strip where someone suggested that Dora take a vacation, and she didn't object to Pennelope being in charge, just thought she couldn't stand up to the Pugnacious Peach.

Dora's used to being caring, but with an undercurrent of  smug superiority in her interactions with Faye. Having trusted Raven with the redecoration of the shop back when (in the 420s or so), I think Dora might have some reason (in her head at least) to choose Raven over Faye when it comes to running the shop. This would allow Dora to keep her pride and keep Faye in the subordinate pigeonhole she's been relegated to.

The whole "does Marten like Faye better than me" stuff still looms large over their relationship and even though she's in therapy I think it'd be a mistake to think that Dora's completely over that just yet. My guess is that at some level Dora still feels threatened by Faye even though the Marten thing is off the table and it's likely that that will bleed over into the professional side of things.

Dora needs help. I'm skeptical that she can accept that help from Faye. I'm also skeptical that the new Faye will be able to just take it the way she always has. I think we'll find out this week whether or not the story will get that heavy or if it'll turn on a dime and go somewhere completely unexpected. I'll enjoy it either way.

I think you may have hit on something:

Dora's worldview might be completely based around the faulty belief that "X (person I love dearly) loves Y (person who she is close to) more than me". And, she has no reason to believe otherwise, because she has the continuous example of Sven, and Marten, and possibly mom and/or dad.

Maybe I was wrong: she needs some Rational-Emotive therapy.

Rational-Emotive therapy.

Linked as a pubic service.

Fascinating!  You may be on to something.  However, I wish it involved an occasional swift boot to the seat of her spookypants.
