Every single time I see a video or gif of Red Pandas, I question how they could possibly survive in the wild.

@snailin: Port 23 or 666?

I'm just using standard windows telnet, so I dunno.

Port 23, then. Try connecting on port 666

My favourite is probably "Our POP server was kidnapped by a weasel" or "Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurling down the highway"

For some years I ran a POP (and SMTP) server for OS/2 called Weasel.  The author put a copy of the referenced rhyme in the about page, and I provided him with a photograph of The Eagle* to go with it, but he lost it.

*A pub just by City Road, mentioned in the rhyme.

Wikipedia has this to say on the topic:
Quote
Because the red panda is considered a very attractive animal, and is not much larger than a house cat, it would seem to be ideal for a pet. Despite this and reports of Indira Gandhi keeping red pandas as pets when she was a child, widespread adoption of these animals as pets has not been reported.[36]

Though, source 36 is from 1994, before red pandas were internet famous.

It is decided. From now on, all stock sound effects for screams in movies, games etc. shall be made by goats.

Some of those "goats" are definitely sheep. The one at 0.44 sounds exactly like the dairy farmer who lives next door to my mum calling his cows in for milking, except that in between the inarticulate yells he swears a lot.

The only one that I think is a sheep is the one I specified as a goat actually. Because I'm a doofus.

Also I think that one is the same one from the 20 second or so mark.

Schnozzles is the best word ever and um...Firefox doesn't underline it either!

^Oh my...

Noon is 12:00 PM, Midnight is 12:00 AM. 2400 is followed by 0001 hours.
Actually, there is no 2400.  It goes from 2359 straight to 0000.

Well it is, it contains and individually counts 24 hours - it's just that the first one is labelled "zero". It's like I'm 22 but I'm in my 23rd year. At least, I think it is. I'm quite tired.

Actually, there is no 2400.  It goes from 2359 straight to 0000.
My memory of military and police usage was that midnight was 2400 hours. Tonight I read that either can be used, but some usages show an opening time, or the time of the start of a contract, at 0000 hours, and the end of a day or contract at 2400 hours. Computers and watches show 0000 hours.

This is part of what I read: The notation 24:00 mainly serves to refer to the exact end of a day in a time interval. A typical usage is giving opening hours ending at midnight (e.g. "00:00–24:00", "07:00–24:00"). Similarly, some railway timetables show 00:00 as departure time and 24:00 as arrival time. Legal contracts often run from the start date at 00:00 till the end date at 24:00

I had no idea what the whole "bus" thing was about, and I found this while googling.

Thanks you.  Despite having seen damn near every magic school bus episode with my girls, I wasn't getting it either.

And there's this at the bottom of the second of those pages...

I used to have a little black and white tv in my bedroom when I was in high school.  When my alarm went off in the morning I would reach up and turn it on and fall back into bed.  The theory was it would help me wake up.  I half asleep watched a lot of Magic School Bus.  One morning the audio track had been mixed up with the descriptive audio for the blind track.  Which was sort of great to listen to, since I had my eyes closed as I fell back asleep.  I noticed though, that while they described all of Liz's crazy antics, they never bothered to describe who Liz was.

So you might get a description like:

Liz hops onto Mrs. Frizzle's chair and the two wink at each other.

I'm sure the thing you would picture (having never seen the show) would not be:

They did, however, describe Mr. Frizzle's outfit when she first walked into the room.

Paging Jace for a rant on acceptable armor...

As I scrolled by that image I became visibly upset.

Okay quick rant:

Boob plate is dumb because the idea of armor is to deflect and redirect blows, the curvature of the armor is nearly always away from vital organs and this would just turn blows straight into the chest if it was even hit at all instead of someone just stabbing around it.
