Right about now would be a good spot to cut to characters other than Momo and Marten to cause maximum tooth grinding, I mean, suspenseful waiting.  :psyduck:

I'll be really surprised if we stick with momo/marten strips this week. I'm guessing Dora/Faye or Faye/Angus. Possibly Tai/Dora if Jeph is in the mood to screw with shippers.

Is that what you're doing, or were you accusing me of such things?

Because if so...yeah, I do it every week (when I don't outright create the thread).

The speculation will never end.

While this is true, it's hardly comforting...
Wait, what?  Are you implying speculation is bad?

I suspect Jeph finds it funny - if he ever bothers to look in on these forums.

In light of what he wrote in the afterword of QCV2, I still think he's shocked to realize how much his strip has touched people.

I was considering doing the same type of thing, honestly. XD It's so hard to keep up with WCDT sometimes if you don't already have a post in it.

Not that that's what I'm doing right now...........

I actually hope to see some Angus/Faye stuff or just something with Sven and/or Hanners. I'd really like to see them go on another "date," actually. Buuuuut we'll probably get the hiking trip. I'll be happy if we find out something new from it.

Jeph went out with a camera to get some reference pictures from the area where they'll be hiking, so strips about the hike are the way to bet.

Well, looks like he managed to work the latter in, kind of, without going off the Marten/Momo/Padma/Elliot/Sam track he set up last week.

The strip's become such an ensemble piece I sometimes forget Marten and Faye are still roommates.

For comic #2016...

1. I like how Marten is looks for the coming hike, tan shirt and (I am guessing) khaki shorts.  He at least is trying to dress the part.

2. It will be "interesting" to see how Marten's indie physique handles nature hiking, alongside an energetic teenager, a kawaii robot, a cute bakery girl, and a quietly looming bouncer/baker.

3. While this strip was amusing enough on its own, it disturbs me slightly at its ending, particularly with Marten's final lines.  I get the feeling we are seeing the tangible beginnings of Faye and Marten starting to drift away from each other, even as best friends.  This would not be intentional on either characters' part, but as consequence of how their QC-lives have been going.

4. I could be overthinking (or brain-numb thinking) all this of course, from long work fatigue.  But I could not go to sleep without catching up on my QC since #1999  .

Yeah, the sunn:))) t-shirt is, for my (admittedly strange) taste, is the funniest shirt yet.

Maybe that's because it's black on yellow (instead of light on dark).

Maybe it's also because I'm on the Sunn O))) album, Monoliths & Dimensions and have some idea what they're like.

Notice that Faye is not comparing Marten's butt to Sven's, which not just she, but everyone in the comic considers the gold standard of butts. Of course, mentioning that wouldn't lead to happy memories, so she probably deliberately glosses over it now that she is in a relationship.

No, she doesn't say that "Angus is better than him", just that she likes Angus's butt better - that's quite different, and falls well within the usual range of banter between friends who live together.

Why would she bring that up though, if only to be mean?  Besides, after "the incident" I would think that Faye knows to not rub in anything regarding Sven or Angus.  There's healthy banter and then there's low blows, Faye is leaning towards the latter as usual.

You guys are talking too much about Faye's intentions. The only thing that really matters to me is that cool Sunn O))) t-shirt. I never thought that Marten would dig them (because if he owns that t-shirt only for the lulz... that's just dumb in my book).

Also... Faye's combination of colors is just awful to my eyes.

Does sleepwear get a pass? Benefit Of Peejay, or something? I have taken issue with Faye's colour-sense before...

I'm not sure, but Faye seems to be implying that Angus has a big bum. The eye of love, I suppose.

Honestly, I didn't laugh at today's comic. I got to the last panel and was still waiting for the jokes to start.

But I can see other people liked it, so I'll just put that down to me being a boring churl (or immune to Butts Disease).

Bring on the hiking, that will cheer me up.

Why would she bring that up though, if only to be mean?  Besides, after "the incident" I would think that Faye knows to not rub in anything regarding Sven or Angus.  There's healthy banter and then there's low blows, Faye is leaning towards the latter as usual.

Did you see the smirk on Faye's face? How much more  :-P :-P :-P :-P can you get?

She has to know how self conscious Marten is, and she laughs at his appearance right before he goes on a semi-date.  Then, to rub some salt in the wound, she brags about her superior-to-Marten boyfriend.  It's not silly, or funny, it's just mean.

Maybe it's subconscious payback for "the incident"?

She knocked Marten out.  That would be more than sufficient payback for trying to kiss her.

Not everyone liked it.  I'm looking forward to the hiking as well, namely some forest and/or landscape backgrounds.

Err ... I really, really, really have no clue why Marten is even trying to date Padma.

Yeah she looks like Dora with ebony skin. But she's totally NOT Dora on the inside. She's driving me nuts with her inability to spot the glaring obvious. And she apparently completely failed to notice the other guys interest in her for ages, so why would she notice Martens interest in her ?

Quite frankly - all Padma did in the comic so far was being annoyingly stupid.

He has a pretty small circle of friends, as far as we can see; so in accepting an invitation to go on a hike with some acquaintances he is looking to change that by taking the opportunity to move them from acquaintances to friends.  Whether he will want to try to take it further than that with Padma at some point we have no clear indication of so far.

Yeah I think for Padma to notice Marten's interest, he'd pretty much have to grab her up and kiss her. Not only is Marten not going to be that aggressive (while sober anyway), but it most likely wouldn't do any good-pretty sure that whatever attraction Marten may feel towards Padma is NOT mutual-witness all the failures on his part in trying to connect with her on any level deeper than "regular customer".

Faye's booty-comaprison made me think of this, so, yeah, Marten, why are your feelings hurt?

But honestly, I think it's just banter.

And so far, they're just going on a hike. A hike on which Momo should have invited Marigold ... if she had the chance. 'Cuz Mari's, y'know, busy.

'Cause he's not gettin' that hot hot Dora sexing anymore? Not being with someone tends to make criticism of one's physical attributes harder to take.

Maybe Momo does convince Marigold to come along, who - meeting Padma - finds out, that she lied to Tai, which Padma (and only Padma) fails to notice.

Or so she says.
