Given how little we've seen her lately I'm guessing it will be a Faye heavy week, with maybe some Dora thrown in since we haven't seen much of her lately either.

If I remember right they had a slight tiff about Angus having a "type" when we first met Padma and found out that he'd dated the Faye doppelganger from the Secret Bakery but that ended in make-outs pretty quickly so I don't think we could call it a full on "fight". I can't recall any other instances between them that would qualify.

I can't imagine anything recent that would cause them to fight, so I think this week is too soon for that to happen.

I agree. I think we're going with a continuation of the current plot (Fallout of Padma/Elliot) but if it's not that I'm guessing more Faye strips but not particularly a fight. Just more Faye than there has been lately if only to get her back on screen in something besides a punchline strip.

My first thought was: "Oh no! The Cane Toad has reached Northampton!"

It's a toadally awesome comic! I will never froget it! But why doesn't Momo have her own key? Or does she simply extrude lock-picks from her fingertips, and doesn't want to give Sam any ideas...

Brilliant comic. That is a big old frog and the expression on it is great.

I don't think Marigol has a fear of frogs but she probably dislikes them after getting one down her top.

Wouldn't she have to kill giant frogs in WoW? Surely she'd have gotten over* any phobia that way.

So, the instant I saw the girls' expressions in panel 2, I knew they were up to no good. My big brother senses tingled. What followed was just hilariously well done. Bravo, J^2! Bravo!

It kind of seems like a role reversal, doesn't it? It kind of makes sense, though. Momo's seeing the world through new eyes now, like a child, and it's closer to the world Marigold has known (or at least known about lol).

This was a fantastic comic, though. QC gold.

So, what does everyone think is the chance of Hannelore showing up in the next strip?  I don't know what would be worse for her, the frog itself(himself?), or the dirt and grime on Sam and Momo.   I doubt frogs are one of her animal favs.

Speaking of creatures it's probably long past due for Mieville to show up again.

It'd be fun to buy a talking computer, then buy it a better chassis so it can leave the house and bring a messy kid over with its frog.  Oh right, that's the opposite of fun.

Padma better be just outside the door out of view.  Letting a 13 year old run around the city with a robot you just met is incredibly irresponsible.

Damn didn't know they grew frogs that big in Massachusetts. Anyway, I now officially like Sam, she is just pure tomboy. However, I would not want to be her parents, I bet she's responsible for at least half the gray hairs on Jim's head.

Also, I wonder if Marigold is now having PTSD-type flashbacks at the sight of that monster hopper?

That's an interesting question...

Momo's only about 2 and a half years old, so that's all the time she's spent with Mari.  In that amount of time, she's gotten pretty used to Marigold's lifestyle, and though she tried to help her improve it, it has not been all that successful.

Perhaps she thinks that engaging Marigold more directly in the great outdoors would be good for her.  Then again, it may just be her own excitement of new discovery inspiring her to share with her owner/friend.  Either way, Mari would do well to at least  "take a hike"!

Thirteen's old enough to be out on her own a bit in broad daylight, especially in a city like Northampton.  We need to stop being so paranoid about kids; a few of them dying is the only way they'll learn.

It's not a new phenomenon, all this mollycoddling, though more universal than it once was; how much it matters is not clear, though I strongly disapprove of it.

For example, the violinist Yehudi Menuhin was not allowed to cross the road alone, or to use a telephone, until after his eighteenth birthday - however, before then he had performed Bach, Beethoven and Brahms concerti in Berlin, made his seminal recording of Elgar's Violin Concerto with the composer conducting, and started on the first ever complete recording of the solo violin works of Bach.  So it didn't exactly hold him  back.

If she has one. She did go over to hang out with Pintsize and Winslow when she was small sometimes but probably not enough to need a key, if she could reach the lock.

It probably didn't occur to her to grab Marigold's or that Marigold would be out when she came home.

She might not've realized it was Momo at first, all covered in mud n' stuff. Or maybe the reality of "two mud-covered humanoids standing on my carpet" just set in. Then again Marigold ain't exactly a neat freak so maybe not.

Maybe she heard a ribbit

[...]

Letting a 13 year old run around the city with a robot you just met is incredibly irresponsible.

And accompanying them everywhere is?  When are they ever going to learn responsibility for their own actions?  When are they ever going to learn how to look after themselves?

13 is definitely old enough to be out on your own.  Just because society is so scared of some scenarios that they don't see others doesn't mean that that fear should rule peoples' lives.

For example, the school run is not risk free: Having more cars around increases the chance of an accident, repiratory illnesses, etc.  Add to that it instills such a fear of the unknown that people live the rest of their lives in fear.  This also has economic implications because entrepreneurs need to be confident (i.e. not fearful), independent people who can measure risk and be willing to take some.

From the age of about 7 or 8 I made my own way to school and back.  For people of my generation that was not unusual.  If you teach your children about the risks but let them make their own judgement they will learn from their mistakes.

If they survive said mistakes. It's the not surviving, possibly, that gives many parents nightmares. It's getting to the point that a parent may be considered irresponsible for NOT being overprotective (see stoutfiles' post above).

The overprotective ones don't think ahead and realize they may be creating adult children who can't do a thing for themselves even well past the age of 18.

Yeah, letting Momo run around unsupervised with Sam is a bad idea, Sam could be as corrupting an influence on her as Pintsize.   :-D

I'd be more interesting in wondering which Genetics Lab that Frog had escaped form.
