Wow, getting an early start this week.

I hope we don't have anymore interuptions.

Not sure what I would do if I had another unexpected disruption of our regularly scheduled programming.

What? I can stop any time! I just don't want to!

Tai's use of a computer brings up an obvious question:  How smart are "normal" personal computers in the QC 'verse?  Are any of them equivalent of an AnthroPC?  Just imagine Tai ending up having an argument with her PC about what tracks they should play.

Considering she's using Ableton Live music sequencing software, I don't think laptops and PC's are much different in the QC universe than they are in the real world.

Then again, AnthroPCs can be put in standard PC towers (Pintsize was put in one when his chassis was damaged, I think by chocolate).

That was via a USB connection, though. That's where there's a difference between our towers/laptops and QC universe ones.

Of course, you'd have to wonder how you backup a machine with 1 TByte of capacity on ANY tower or laptop - unless cloud computing is a lot easier in the QC universe.

Which, I suspect, Jeph didn't even think about when he did that whole Pintsize vs. Cake Mix arc back in 2003...

What's so special about terabytes now? I just bought a Spinpoint F4 worth two.
Seriously, QC-verse computing is significantly advanced compared to ours; a desktop with multi-terabyte drives 'only' seven years before ours is not that much of a stretch I think.

Well, how much disk space did Momo say she had again? About 97 TeraBytes?

Could a PC from 2003 have that much, or was only the "personality" uploaded to Marten's PC?

Whatever amount of storage it's economical to put in an AnthroPC is presumably equally economical in a desktop computer. The QC world seems to be ahead of ours in storage affordability.

That's RAM, not storage. And apparently there are reasons beyond simple numerical superiority that make adding more, to an APC at least, inadviseable. Plus I would expect to find some sort of semi-fast store, like a SSD or something, as an intermediate between RAM and whatever long-term media they use.

I'm guessing that Pintsize and Winslow use relatively slow hard drives.

Likely 2.5" 12.5 or 17.5 mm thick drives, 5400 RPM. Based on the rough age of their respective chassis, I'd guess somewhere in the 80-250 GB ballpark in the real world, but given that Momo's old chassis has 97 TB... then again, Momo isn't necessarily representative of what Pintsize and Winslow can do.

So, the low RAM constraint keeps them hitting swap often. That'll keep the processing speed of the AI process down, if it's waiting for the HDD all the time.

So, QC is like Japan right now. They can pretty much do anything with their cellphones (even buy stuff from vending machines just by showing their screens), while here in the good USA, we're just getting acquainted with IR codes.

There is a bit of a stir over in Blip Comic http://blipcomic.com/1016/ about a certain unidentified character reminding everyone of our resident male lead.
Of course this has created all sorts of fan-boy/girl excitement about the two universes connecting. Of course it's not...I don't think...because Marten didn't work in a library in California. However, I will admit it would be amusing. And while the character of Mary would probably create quite a stir at the COD (no pun intended), the anthroPCs might recognize her as one of their own (but way more advanced). It boggles the mind to think how much Mary's "chassis" would cost in the QC universe.

Ah, good, not just me.

Although has he checked what voluntary organisations exist to help him rehabilitate? :p
