Mega-thanks for this, I became a huge fan of Monolake when their last album was posted here.

This is one of my favorite albums of 2011. Fantastic, catchy alt rock.

Checking that out now. I'm already sold by the lyrics in your signature; Tyranny of Distance is one of my favorite albums ever.

I hate to be all self-whorey but seriously, check out my band "Troubador" on bandcamp. We just put out a new single about a week ago, and it's available for free download, and I am more than happy to put it up for whoever digs it. I don't like reviewing anything I was involved in the making of, but somebody told me it sounded "like the Violent Femmes angrily confronted the Beatles in an alley." This person is a friend of mine, though, so I guess you'll just have to see for yourself before you trust that opinion, now won't you?

I strongly agree with the Violent Femmes comparison... completely disagree with the Beatles part... would more so say "what if the Violent Femmes joined and then were promptly kicked out of Elephant 6."

Haha nope, it's the right one, I just name my links creatively so they won't get taken down.  Seashore Yurt is Beach House, and Blossom is Bloom.

Yeah, I have a little too much fun with synonyms.

Until the new Dopamines album comes out in May-ish, this is the best thing I've heard this year.

The much anticipated followup to one of my favorite albums of 2010, Twin Hand Movement.  Now with more synths!  Compared to that album, there are fewer songs that immediately grab you, but Nootropics slowly but surely works its way into your head through its motoric Krautrockiness and Jana Hunter's dreamy vocals.  Just as the songs themselves take their time to build momentum to reach glorious heights, the album is a grower.  Highly recommended.

The links are fine; the poster is in the UK and has a proper name in clear as part of their email address  (but I guess you can't see some parts of their profile that I can).  I don't know why their chosen username is the acronym for a virus causing severe pneumonia, but maybe it means something else to other people.

The music won't turn the world on its head, but is pleasant enough of its sort - I like the Russian folksong that ends the album, though I'd be adjusting the checks in the piano action if I had a chance!

Fair enough but nope the link is genuine (sorry I couldn't find my M/F account details) and my nickname.... oh well it's a long story but it's just a nickname  8-)

It's actually slang from the South East of France and that was long time before the actual SARS virus appeared  :-D

Agreed. That definitly won't turn the world on its head but it's still a pretty good album (much better than the one she did after) and her loss is a shame.
She used to play with Smog/Bill Callahan and actually Bill Callhan features most of the songs of this album.

Either today or tomorrow I will be uploading the new Sigur Rós, the new Jack White, and the new Spiritualized.

Just posting about it here so that I have to stop being lazy and actually do it.  Or look like an idiot I guess.

Jack White - Blunderbuss (2012 - Alt. Rock - 320kbps + Music Video [track 14])

Blunderbuss opens with a bunch of layered organ riffs, which slowly settle down into the Stax-informed groove of “Missing Pieces.” On the song, White does plenty of deeply impressive organ and guitar soloing, but it’s all done in the service of an unhurried shuffle of a song, the sort of thing that makes for ideal road-trip music. And that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Throughout, White gets funkier than I’ve ever heard him do, but he does it without making a big deal of it. The riffage on “Freedom At 21″ has a real bite to it, but White still gives it plenty of room to breathe. First single “Love Interruption” is an excellent Appalachian country-soul wailer that’s only grown on me since it first hit the internet. “Weep Themselves To Sleep” is a big acoustic stomp. -- Tom Breihan for Stereogum

Soooo I know I totally reneged on my last promise on this thread about uploading Jack White, Spiritualized, and Sigur Rós.  Someone's already beaten me to Jack White, but if you guys are still interested in the others I will oblige.

But in the meantime, I have a peace offering in hopes that you will forgive me my past transgressions.  Fresh off the leak press today.

I do but the only rip available as far as I can tell is really low quality. If you don't have it but are planning on downloading it, I say wait until a much better rip comes along. Even the low quality version out now is pretty excellent though; it's a return to form after their seriously underwhelming previous album.

The Boise music scene has been pretty tits lately.  Eric Gilbert of Finn Riggins just organized Treefort Music Festival, an awesomely successful event.  Finn Riggins has toured pretty extensively with Built to Spill, and they just had an EP release party on record store day.  So, here is their latest math-indie short.

my gosh but it's been quiet round these parts.  guess i can't complain, as I've been no help myself.   well, anyhow, here's a little something that just turned 40:

My parents used to play this record and "Thick as a Brick" round the house when I was a toddler.  Back in high school I listened to them again and found most of their 70s output to my liking (and for good or ill, i'm not a fan of prog or the 70s in general).  And now, fifteen years from then, Auqualung has an anniversary and gets, not remastered, but remixed- for clarity, not for any kind of re-imagining or anything.  it's the same record, but it's an order of magnitude sonically superior to any previous release.

anyway, if you like Tull, this is a real treat.  And if you don't know if you like Tull, this is probably the album that it's best to start with.  And if you only know the tracks played these past 40 years on radio (the title track and "Locomotive Breath" most likely) the rest of the album ought to be something of a revelation for you.

3 links 'cause it's a 2 disc set with a bunch of tracks from singles and eps released the same year (as well as a sparse selection of alternate versions).  And it's in ALAC (from which it can easily be converted into any other lossless or lossy formats you desire)

Japandroids - Celebration Rock   They've managed to avoid the sophmore slump. I can't help but comparing this to The Hold Steady for some reason. It's quite good. Gonna go see 'em in Denver in June. If you've never seen them live, I highly recommend it.

Japanese rock band The Pillows supplied the soundtrack for the frenetic anime FLCL (Fooly-Cooly).  This album has the full versions of the main songs rather than those edited for the anime, and so is a good introduction to the band including their best-known numbers.

Great band with a great sound that just released their first CD, and I love it with the exception of the first song (not a huge fan of her voice as lead).

I'd upload the new Cory Branan album if anyone is interested, but the album art is pretty NSFW.

Also, this:

Rules for this thread:

  • Please ensure your tags are correct, and that you have specified both Artist/Album in your post.  It's good to give pointers to what the music is like, too.

  • No hot-linking images or albums. You can re-host images at your favourite image hosting site (e.g. http://imageshack.us).

  • Upload your files in either a .zip or a .rar archive to MF, in multiple parts if the album is over 200Mb. The reason for this is that we know MF is safe and efficient and allows multiple downloads. The ads on other sites, such as Sendspace, not uncommonly contain viruses on the page. Get yourself checked out.

  • Post your link using code tags. It's the # icon above the policeman emoticon. This helps prevent the links from being traced back to the forums, lowering the chance that the wrong people notice the thread, potentially threatening Jeph with legal action.

  • The forum software automatically changes the name MF to avoid being found by search engines - remember to correct it when using the URLs you find here.

  • Please do NOT request albums; this includes requests for re-uploads.  If you miss it, try looking for it somewhere else.

  • Repost the rules at the top of each new page

It's okay. I like the album art more than the record. Gave it a fair shot. Better than 99% of what is classified as "country."
