It doesn't seem like they've been in space for nine weeks.  I guess that's a good thing.

I get the impression that Global Moderator Bling blang blong blung is a very respectable title indeed, so congratulations! :P

I became a Global Moderator about two months ago.  The Bling blang blong blung though is just one of those titles based on how many posts I have, so I'll have a new one in a few posts, like usual, I guess.  Either way, thanks!

My prediction for this week? The party is winding down, people are relaxed, one of the soldiers hears something in the corridor and disappears. Thats when the Necromorphs* attack! Marten has to break out the plasma cutters, don a jury-rigged engineers suit and save the day!

That or Marten and Hanners' dad chat.

Before the new strip goes up and distracts everyone, I have an observation. Since Ghostbusters was released IN 1984, it could not have been a story based on Doc E-C's QC-verse invention which he had merely DESIGNED in 1984. Therefore, Doc E-C did not inspire Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters inspired Doc E-C. Doc E-C is a sci-fi geek. Q.E.D.

Waaah, I thought I was gonna get the first comment!

I didn't tear up, isnce that's not my kind of thing.  But this is definitely a good example of how much Hannelore has progressed.  It's possible this is the first time she's ever hugged her dad.

Too bad whoever that is in the back(the LT?) had to go and disrupt the moment.

Joking aside, this really speaks volumes for how Hannelore has progressed emotionally while on Earth. Maybe this strip is why she was pushing herself (hugging Marten, the date with Sven, etc)?

Well, so much for that bottle of uber-rare whiskey, Hanners had to go and surprise her dad and make him drop the bottle & smash it into a million pieces! :(

If the lieutenant keeps this up, her worries about public humiliation among her station mates will come to fruition. Plus, she's totally ruining the d'awww.

That chart is out of date, though. I don't have the title it says I should have, at least.

Judging by the reaction of half of the wakeup song duo in the first panel, that may not be a bad thing (though she recovered quickly), but he probably passed it off to someone else.

This is simply an adorable moment, made even more poignant if, as the above poster says, that all of Hannelore's effort was dedicated towards this single moment. Truly a triumph of the human spirit.

I hadn't even thought of that. Good insight! It makes perfect sense, and Hannelore is just the type who would do a carefully planned long term project.

My thoughts:

  • I'm glad that Hannelore can express herself.
  • I think the whisky is bad after all (the person next to the Prof looks like he's gagging on it).
  • Marigold seems to be standing awfully close to a certain scientist.  Also, given the angle of her body, it looks like she was paying more attention to him than to the events at the front.

I've made a couple of changes in the 600s, and replaced one later title, but generally they go back to the early days of the forum.  There is one user (the oldest other than Jeph, but no longer active) who has a personal title instead of a count title.

[EDIT] I've updated the forum section of the wiki (and made another title change).

Lt. Potter is about to become Ms. Potter after the Major gets done with this charge report:

Lt. Potter

Charge 1:  s.92 Scandalous Conduct by Officer

In that she, on or about March 19, 2012, at Space Station Chatham, at the birthday party of Dr. Chatham, when not in uniform, used offensive language and behaved in a drunken and riotous manner by yelling, "F*ck yeah!  Hug the sh*t out of him!"

Charge 2:  s.129 Conduct to the Prejudice of Good Order and Discipline

Alternate to Charge 1

In that she, on or about March 19, 2012, at Space Station Chatham , at the birthday part of Dr. Chatham, while not in uniform, did completely ruin the moment by yelling, "F*ck yeah!  Hug the sh*t out of him!" at a moment of extreme "D' awwness".

Charge 3:  s.97 Drunkeness

In that she, on or about March 19, 2012, at Space Station Chatham, was drunk and behaving in a disorderly manner likely to bring discredit to Her Majesty's service.

Charge 4:  s.129 Conduct to the Prejudice of Good Order and Discipline

Alternate to Charge 3

In that she, on or about March 19, 2012, at Space Station Chatham, was severely intoxicated and behaving in a disorderly manner, and was rendered unfit for duty

Why yes, I have had to write a few of these up over the years.

Ruling: case dismissed.

In as much as Lt. Potter is an Officer in the United States Air Force, said Officer is not in Her Majesty's service, and this court therefore has no jurisdiction in this matter.

Arguably in TOS, but in TNE and DS9 the characterisation and image changed. A lot.

But at the same time Klingons went from vaguely Asiatic looking to space vikings, so I guess it all balances out.

Exactly... she wasn't on duty so she was just like any other civil with the right to get drunk.
I don't think military personel, especially on an active-duty station, and especially especially when commissioned, are ever entirely off-duty in the sense of being exempt from military discipline. But this is a comic, so yeah... "Hug the shit out of him" Hanners!

I like the idea of this strip, and the last panel's punchline, but having most everyone staring ahead blankly like that (definitely "wide-eyed") in panel four is unnerving, and didn't provoke the intended ("Daww...") response from me.

It's a fine line.  This is, after all, the most public of PDA's for anyone!
