I made a blueline rough of Panel 1, if anyone likes.
I'd need to recompose it for a less-deep panel if we want to keep the QC format.

My finished art generally looks like this.

I like it! I really like the idea of having different people do different frames if we have enough possible contributors, that would be awesome. We'd have to have continuity of outfit or something to make people recognisible. Maybe put each character in their iconic outfit - I'd suggest TEH for Marten, the bearmonster for Faye, and no idea on the others.

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."

For Hanners, it's a turquoise T-shirt and tan pants, maybe khakis.
For Marigold, it's usually a black T-shirt with a slogan and, most often, purple pants, maybe sweats or jeans.

And I also like the idea of a different artist for each panel.

Eh, I'm not too sure it'd be a good idea, actually. If the styles are too jarring, it'll interfere with the reading flow.

Hm. The elimination of 4B would fit in with "less is more."

And I LIKE that first panel! Hanner's hair is a little too frazzled at the moment, though.

Considering why we're doing this, I don't think I'm a fan of that last special.

Ah, yes. Very good point! Got inside Faye's head too much there and it led to a little bit of a Fight Club moment.

ETA: DSL- nice job!

Originally, I liked the idea of multiple artistic styles per strip but I think that with the content we have it would be too complicated. Perhaps if this goes well and we decide on Guest Strip #2, we can do something where each panel is similar/the same and only the text changes. That might lend itself better to a number of style changes.

Like the caption contests...

DSL, I... I didn't realize.  I've known your work for quite a while!

As for panel 3b, you lose the joke of 1000 posts for a n00b, and I think that's an indication of Hanner's obsessive character.  I also liked the simultaneous realization at both ends of the QCverse that Hanners had disappeared/reappeared.

Maybe a shifting of some of the dialogue would work - tightening it up a bit without losing or weakening the gag.

Let me think on it a bit... gotta finish making dinner first, I'll check back in later.

I put a new version of the script up on Scribd, with a "tightening" of the dialogue in the fourth panel:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/111955251/QC-Crowdsourcing

Quote

FOURTH PANEL
Frame One

[Back at COD; DORA is looking around as MARIGOLD is closing up her netbook]

DORA: "Where did Hannelore go?"

MARIGOLD: "She was just here a minute ago. I was showing her the discussion threads inthe comic's forum."

Frame Two

[Back at MARTEN and FAYE's apartment; they're still looking at his laptop]

MARTEN: "Is that Hannelore registered to post on here?"

FAYE (looking down): "What? How can she already have over a thousand posts?"

I still like the idea of ending with Hannelore staring into the computer (Read. ALL. The. Posts) maybe with Winslow in the corner of the panel looking on in (horror? concern? bafflement?)

Also, I bluelined the second panel and added it to my flickr set here.

I actually had a line of dialogue like, "I get worried about you." I don't do a good Winslow dialogue.

However, his look of  horror from the "Mister Peepers? NOOOOO!" strip might be funny as an add-in.

DSL: I like the perspective in that second panel!

Winslow, on the back of the couch, looking over Hannelore's shoulder, simply says "Are you okay?"

I see him to the left of her, speaking first.  Her "Must...read..ALL...THE....POSTS" is her response to his concern.

Is it possible to improve on "Controversial Stuff", perhaps to something closer to QC? I haven't paid a lot of attention to script or drawing, but that name keeps leaping out at me. I don't have any good ideas, other than a lame "Contestable Questions" or some such.

And thus, we now have a poll about the name of our "fictional web comic."

FIFTH PANEL

[HANNELORE is sitting in front of her computer, eyes bloodshot, hair unkempt; WINSLOW is on the back of her couch, looking at her]

WINSLOW (to HANNELORE): "Are you all right?"

HANNELORE (to herself): "Must. Read. ALL. The. Posts."

Contemptible Questions?

Indeterminate Ingredients?

I can't think of any other synonyms for content...

Debatable Entrails?

Edit:  The poll went up while I was typing this.  I'll leave the ones that aren't already on the poll.

Great minds think alike.  ...and so do ours.

Hoping to hew closely to QC, I did a dictionary search, and posting some likelies might start creative juices flowing in this direction. Or not. Here goes:

contaminated questions
contemptible questions
contemplative questions
contentious questions
incontinent questions
contradictory questions
contrary questions
contrived questions
contumacious quesadillas
contentious quesadillas
questionably contentious? Is there a copyright issue?

I'm sort of fond of quesadillas, cheese-filled tortillas. Isn't that what this creative exercise is all about?

(I can't stop adding to this)

And yes, I do plan to sketch the other panels now; I'm too "into" this to stop short.

I'm with Redball on this one- I really like the idea of it being "QC". Hmmmm....

Quotable Characters
Quizzical Creatures
Quarrels & Contradictions
Quiet Cannibalism
Qualms & Caffeine
Quite A Calamity
Quips & Chortles
Quilting with Chutzpah
Quickly Clamoring
Quantifiable Concerns
Quinoa & Chorizo
Quarts of Cephalopods
Quirky Carcasses

Ok, I think that might be my cue to stop now.

The internet, I'm guessing.

Quaintly Consequential gives it an air of not being that interesting or important... if we were going for an ironic title, I guess that would work. Personally, I'm leaning towards "Incontinent Questions" myself...

I think we're practically almost there. The idea of adding in Pintsize in that third panel is GENIUS - and I really like his response!

I do think Hanners should be a little more "normal" looking in panel 1 - to differentiate her from the last panel.

Agreed on Hanners' hair -- though I suspect it hasn't known a comb much since those early days.

Not quite happy with my version of Marigold; my mental picture of her is of a girl who would be considered "cute" by 99 percent of Westerners, except for herself.

I would have Hanner's hands up on the keyboard - her posture looks too passive for how obsessive she's supposed to be over the posts. Possibly even hunched over it in a mirror of Mari's posture.

Quiet Calamities

but of the suggested ones, I rather like Qualms & Caffeine, Quarrels & Contradictions and Quantifiable Concerns.

Hope I'm not too late...

A proposal for a tweak to Panel 5:
Instead of having Winslow asking Hanners "Are you all right?" he should have a zombie-eyed look on his face and gently emit smoke as Hannelore furiously types or clicks on a keyboard that's plugged into him.

That eliminates his line, and besides HE'S A ROBOT! ...

What do you think, sirs?

I like the thought ... but in line with the earlier story about Winslow's jealousy over H. using "that other computer" replaced by his desire to not have 4GB (or however big that thumb drive was) worth of sexy firefighter GIFs, and combined with the AnPCs' supposed role as companions and sometimes caregivers -- my "I worry about you" tweak is starting to REALLY grow on me.

I expect y'all will have it hashed out by the time I get to  Panel 5.

Having only read the scribd script, I was shooting for a less conversational feeling for the last panel to oppose the dialogue-ish rest of it... but giving Winslow the tag at the end makes perfect sense

QUESTIONABLE CONTENT GUEST STRIP
#2KXX – CROWD SOURCING

FIRST PANEL

[HANNELORE is holding a broom, looking over MARIGOLD's shoulder; MARIGOLD is typing away on her netbook at a table. DORA and RAVEN are behind the counter, looking on]

HANNELORE: "Whatcha reading?"

MARIGOLD (looking slightly annoyed at the interruption): "It's just… just my favorite webcomic, Quantifiable Concerns."

[SPECIALS on the board behind RAVEN and DORA:

* spathe ham
* fish heads
* un-shelled walnut muffins
* a kick in the shins

There is a note on the cash register: "Free holopony with purchase of banana smoothie"
]

SECOND PANEL

[DORA is standing by the front register, looking at her own laptop, while RAVEN is looking off-screen at MARIGOLD]

DORA: "You know, I like the comic and all, but it seems strangely familiar. Can't quite put my finger on it."

MARIGOLD (off-screen speech bubble): "NO! Tannelor is the shy, nervous daughter of the PRESIDENT, not a billionaire philanthropist! (clicking noises as she's typing) And there is NOTHING to suggest she has any romantic interest in that dweeb Marven!"

THIRD PANEL

[MARTEN is looking at the webcomic on HIS laptop, back at his apartment, as FAYE looks on over his shoulder; PINTSIZE is sitting next to MARTEN on the couch]

MARTEN: "Dora just sent me a link to this slice-of-life comic about a guy and his pet tarantula."

FAYE: "Yeah, me too. Have you seen the forums? These people take the internet WAYYY too seriously!"

PINTSIZE (looking dejected): "She didn't send ME a link."

FOURTH PANEL
Frame One

[Back at COD; DORA is looking around as MARIGOLD is closing up her netbook]

DORA: "Where did Hannelore go?"

MARIGOLD: "She was just here a minute ago. I was showing her the discussion threads in the comic's forum."

Frame Two

[Back at MARTEN and FAYE's apartment; they're still looking at his laptop]

MARTEN: "Is that Hannelore registered to post on here?"

FAYE (looking down): "What? How can she already have over a thousand posts?"

FIFTH PANEL

[HANNELORE is sitting in front of her computer, eyes bloodshot, hair unkempt; WINSLOW is on the back of her couch, looking at her]

HANNELORE (to herself): "Must. Read. ALL. The. Posts."

WINSLOW (to HANNELORE): "I worry about you."

By the way - Jeph uses Blambot Casual for his speech bubbles, if we want to go "realistic".

(EDIT: Updated the line for Pintsize in Panel 3)

Doing some screencapping and using Blambot, I've got a pretty good fix on how the comic would look.

An idea for panel 1: The specials don't have to be completely visible. The "Holopony with purchase" line can go in the area between Hannelore's broom and Dora. (By the way - I saw Tai's autograph on Marigold's netbook. GENIUS!)

For panel 2: Would it be subtle-funny if the colors of the website (on the screen of Dora's laptop) were Black on PINK?

For panel 3: I have no clue as to what font Pintsize "speaks" in.

Panel 4: Maybe as a joke, don't do an actual "divider" between the two frames, just a sketched line.

Panel 5: Gotta use Chicago font (or MacSys) for Winslow. Otherwise FANTASTIC.

Hi, I know the script says final, but there are a couple of little things bugging me.  May I suggest the following tweaks?

The first may not work... Marigold's forum rant should be in a box, maybe a courier type of font, indicating it's being typed, not spoken out loud?  (now that I've said it, it doesn't sound like it'll work.  Never mind.)

Faye's line in panel 3 somehow changed to "take the internet way too seriously", I think the original "Take the comic way too seriously" worked better (Seriously, that's what we're here for, right?)

Marten's line in panel 4 frame 2 just sounds a little clunky.  How about  "Look, Hannelore just started posting on the forum" or "Hey, is that Hannelore posting here?"

Ultimately, it's in DSL's hands when he does the lettering, and I trust him to make any final changes he sees fit, but I thought I'd get these off my chest.
