Yeah, I mean I'd buy a PS3 over an XBone any day, but when I have a more powerful laptop, an xbox 360 controller and a TV with an HDMI cable, any of them is basically worthless.

The Nintendo products has some interesting controllers and exclusives that you cannot get equivalent games to on PC, so they're actually interesting to me as a gamer. Playstation exclusives... look, GTA looks cool, but if it doesn't ship for PC, I still have stuff like Saints Row 4 and Just Cause 2 multiplayer waiting around. There's not really anything like Zelda or Mario on PC.

If I knew that sales were doing well and that Fallout 4 CAME to Wii-U, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm not really a PC gamer though.

It is reportedly going to be snowing in Los Santos tomorrow, and there will be some limited time items available.

Why would I deliberately do it quickly rather than savour it as much as I can and explore every nook and cranny? That's the whole point of this kinda game.

Michael sort of reminds me of my ex-con uncle. They look and sound similar. And he didn't get rich from it, but he did sell out his friends in order to reduce his jail sentence and be able to live a normal life with his family.

Trevor is the kind of person that I would have shot in the first place. Letting him live should have been considered a defiance against the Geneva Convention, but I doubt that GTA has one of those. My favorite things to do were only in single player, yoga and watching television!

Ugh, the iFruit app isn't compatible with my Android phone for some stupid reason. Rockstar should make a website to access that content so that people without smartphones (or in my case people with crappy $70 excuses for smartphones that are incompatible with a lot of apps) aren't left in the lurch.

I was just getting really sick of Chop shitting on my lawn.

I recently decided that the protaganists' "main" cars should all be in their assigned color (Franklin's car and motorcycle are bright green, Trevor's truck is orange, and Michael's coupe is blue), just because. I've also learned that it's pointless to customize other cars in offline mode because they get lost really easily, but I managed to make the default vehicles pretty cool. I think it adds to their character that there are cars they own rather than just crap they steal.

Also, I gave Trevor a bald hairstyle and handlebar mustache because I thought it was farily badass looking. At the end of a mission
(click to show/hide)
I noticed that some of his hair had grown back. I was kind of freaked out by it. It was a cool little detail, though.

They've added these RPG elements that weren't there before and I don't like, like special abilities. I don't find the characters very compelling. It just all seems very dreary and more of the same, and I think it just feels like a comedown for me after playing such creative games like Bioshock or the most recent DMC.

Also, when I got so bored with the main missions that I just stole a van and drove around randomly, I found myself driving down the tramlines, and from there drove down into a sewer. I thought this was some amazing attention to detail that even the city's sewer systems were mapped out. Then I played a mission later on and it turns out that's your escape route for that mission - it wasn't amazing attention to detail, it was just that I'd got to one of the key locations in LS before I was meant to.

I also don't like the slight adjustments to the controls, which have confused the shit out of me.

What bugs me is that you can't hijack trains like you could in San Andreas. It sucks, because you drive one in a mission and there's a way to get on the train and make your way to the front, but then you hit triangle and nothing happens. You can kill the conductor but nothing changes.

Hunting is the most frustrating activity ever. Why did they have to go for realism with the elk (have to be stealthy and stay downwind of them) but make cougars overly-aggressive and seemingly invincible.

Yep. It's fucking disgusting and made me want to throw the disc out the window.

Usually on these games, you commit a lot of crimes and kill a lot of guys but that's par for the course in this sort of game or gaming in general. Actually torturing a guy, pulling out his teeth? When he is completely innocent? It's fucking wretched, and if there is something that is genuinely EVIL to do in these games you usually get to choose whether or not you do it.

Sadly, I think the main question here is not whether it's a sickening idea on behalf of Rockstars creative/story writing department, but whether it's pushing their whole satire (art imitating life, in this instance) too far. They didn't come up with the idea of goverment agencies using torture to coerce information out of often innocent victims. They just put it in the game as another example of the fucked up side of America.

Trevor is not a government agency, and I can confirm for you both that what the U.S. government does, while not pleasant ain't shit compared to Trevor, and in turn what they (Rockstar) put you, (the player) through in GTAV isn't shit compared to what the cartels do to people every single day.

The real problem with the torture is it doesn't DO anything. That's the real sin or crime here for any form of story. The torture sequence doesn't really give us any information, doesn't give us any thing new about the characters involved except "Yep this character's a vicious psychopath as we've known from square one", and it does all that by removing player agency. Which is about the greatest crime a game can commit, especially a mega sandbox like GTA.

The good way to implement it? Give you a choice. Torture the guy OR do a long and painful stake out mission to get the info you need. Now it's telling YOU something about you.

Weird, for some reason the post where I weighed in on the torture mission is gone.

Oh well, it broke down to basically that I thought it was pointless and unnecessary.  I can see what they were going for, as far as symbolism, but the game didn't need it.  And Trevor was actually right, torture doesn't work.

Aside from that caveat, I'm having a lot of fun with the game, and I've gotten pretty good in online.  I have a tendency these days to grab a helicopter, fly to a roof nearby where everyone else is killing each other, and then sniping the ever loving shit out of them with my silenced rifle.  I've gotten a couple of achievements for headshots, and it opened up some tattoos - kind of cool.

There's one thing that bothers me in the online offering, and while a lot of people are bitching about the huge mounds of cash going around, it isn't that.  The thing that bothers me is when people are playing with hacks and they cannot be killed.  The money thing, the ultra level thing, meh whatever - doesn't affect me much.  But when I can't kill you in a game where a lot of the point is to just indiscriminately kill whoever - yeah, that's frustrating.  I tend to just switch to a new session once I see one of those running around.

And yes, I realize that last sentence is liable to get me on a watchlist somewhere.  Meh, whatever.

More cons:
- It pissed me off that I could customise the character's appearance only for it to revert the second I changed to another character and back again. I gave these guys a look, goddammit, and it was deliberate, let me use it. This happened sometimes in GTA IV but never often enough for it to be so irritating.
- The map likes to pretend it's huge when the majority of it is just hills and desert wasteland. That doesn't count as expansive, I am not playing Fallout.
- Fuck the submarine missions and fuck the fact that you don't get proper waypoint directions when in water or underwater.

Funnily enough, I couldn't be arsed replaying the mission a second time to check.
