Minus 9999 hitpoints.   Healing would be Plus 9999 hitpoints.
Oh but in Final Fantasy, damage and healing are shown as white numbers and green numbers respectively. So white numbers with a negative sign in front would be negative damage.

So, y'all are saying the Emster fixed Pintsize?

Or, put another way, Pintsize got ... fixed?

I didn't see a wrench or a ratchet involved, but I suppose a hard enough hit could remove his nuts.

One suspects the damage is cumulative, even if he appears to recover.

How much more damage would Pintsize's chassis be able to take? I remember they replaced his chassis before too, but would Marten be able to afford it on his salary or would Pintsize end up in Momo's old chassis temporarily?

Anyone else notice that Emily has tears in her eyes?
Also, is it just me, or is Emily just going to be full of Azumanga Daioh-esque moments? Not that I'm complaining, I actually like it.

One comic she's going to stay over at Marten's and he'll wake up to her standing over him with a knife.

I'm telling you, first it's inappropriately personal questions and prodding with Momo, then casually assaulting Pintsize without due cause...next thing you know Emily's locked in an honor-duel with PT410X.

Given that it's Pintsize, I'd say that Emily's hit was more pre-emptive than anything else...
She hit him with injurous force without so much as a minim of a self-defence excuse. Given the extension of "human" rights to AIs Clinton mentioned when he surveyed M & P (before freaking out over Hanners), Pintsize should have every right to press charges. This time.

Wait, why did she do negative 9999 damage? Wouldn't that have healed Pintsize? Ever since QC turned into a computer game I've lost track of logic. oO
Surely the damage was to *her*?

I know Pintsize can be a real shit sometimes, and I know that it's a comic so har har, but if someone I hardly know came into my home for the first time and almost immediately punched one of my best friends in the head as hard as she could, she would not be staying in my home very long. I certainly wouldn't be giving her a bag of peas to ice her hand.

Even if AIs weren't sentient, even if Pintsize was nothing more than a piece of property, I'd still be kicking Emily out.

You... have a point. She just damaged one of his friends. Isn't this a case where Marten should be standing up for the little guy (and maybe he will next strip...)? And if not, is it because Pintsize can be "fixed"? Or is it because it's Pintsize and he probably had it coming?  :roll:

  • That's a smashing blouse. FELLA!

I think Marten is standing up up for Pintsize with his last line. Even if Pintsize's head was soft, punching it with the force she did would probably still have caused some damage. I was amused by the strip and the expression on Emily and Marten in the last panel is drawn really well, although character-wise I don't like Emily as much as I did.

Such a disgusting craving to play Final Fantasy with all these references in the recent weeks...
Pintsize was dented but still coherent after Faye dismembered and Marigold thumped him, but one blow from Emily knocked him into a spiral. Does she do karate or something? Generate EMP when hurt?

Neither Marigold nor The Pugnacious Peach hit him hard enough to injure their hands. This may be a new level of impact.

How will Marigold react? She is sensitive to AnthroPC abuse, but may have made a permanent exception for Pintsize.

They may have been more prepared for hitting a hard object. You punch soft thing differently to hard things.

f(0) := 0
f(1) := 1
f(n) := f(n-1)+f(n-2), n >= 2

I know that's pretty much the definition of that sequence, but it's also one of the (if not the) slowest known algorithms for generating a the Fibonacci sequence. IIRC, it also uses a lot more storage than other methods as well.

I just had to remind myself that, in comic time, the gang woke up "this morning" at the lake house (either that or Marten doesn't change his shirts very often).

Which might help explain why Hanners is still looking a bit dazed and confused, whatever the state of her pigmentation.

It's been an interesting day in QCHampton.

So what would YOU do first upon meeting Pintsize?

Aim for the dent in the wall in the corner.    3 (11.5%)
See if that mouth is actually movable.    2 (7.7%)
Play "Red Ryder BB Gun" (poke his eyes out).    0 (0%)
DONK on the head!    1 (3.8%)
...except I'd use a metal gauntlet.    0 (0%)
...or a hammer.    0 (0%)
...or an axe!    1 (3.8%)
Toss him in the freezer next to the waffles.    3 (11.5%)
Two words: Duct Tape.    4 (15.4%)
Play magna-doodle with his arms and legs.    0 (0%)
Eat cereal out of his torso.    0 (0%)
Bake a cake with his torso.    2 (7.7%)
Transfer his personality into Momo's old chassis. (Hilarity ensues)    9 (34.6%)
Something else - please, share!    1 (3.8%)

Actually, though, that scenario makes less sense than Padma/Marten did.  She's an intern under him, and while such a thing isn't unheard of, a) it's sexual harassment, and b) WAY OOC for Marten!

Tsk, tsk.

I shall distract the company by mentioning that I have never seen The Simpsons.

Not necessarily; but people are lazy these days and use presumptions of guilt rather than looking at the case.  My mother married her professor; and even to suggest that sexual harassment was involved would be utterly ludicrous.

Marigold and Momo must share an extremely limited closet space. It's not as if Mari is a clothes-horse; her wardrobe seems to be very limited. Jeph's comment on today's strip is a little odd. Momo, unlike Pintsize, has always worn clothes.

Not necessarily. Those could've been permanent clothes attached to the chassis. (we've never seen the old Momo chassis without those clothes, have we? Oo)
Except... for modding freaks in the QC world a model with such clothing limits would've been a letdown.

Momo's clothes for the old chassis were changeable: she started out in something I would (probably wrongly) call a kimono.
