Mainly because any shipping that involves Hannelore is frowned on, due to it exceeding the creepy threshold almost all the time.

I was under the impression that ALL shipping was frowned upon here, regardless of how cute or hot some couples might be, or how amusingly ill advised other couples would be.

I can't think of a single exercise that will alter the shape of Marten's shoulders though. I suppose he could do some weirdly-specific exercises that would bulk up the muscles around them, but basically it's down to bone structure.

Could always get some tips from Jesslyn. Dat pre-transition denial and attempting to "masculinize" the feelings away.

Also, what's up with all the hate for puns, I liked Claire's joke ^^'
No reaction. No groan. No return sally.
I'll go out on a limb and say this relationship has no future. Though that's a matter of a pinion.

See, that's a great pun. I thought Claire's pun was great, too.

No, she must be pun-ished (?).

We'll see. It sort of depends on Martens reason for not replying - it might be an attempt at teasing or something.

Great puns NEED encouragement! You don't want her to feel guilty about her urge to be an artist, her medium the pun! What would this world come to if she felt guilty, hiding her puns like a Red Skelton in her closet?

I just realized it slipped my mind what a push-up specifically meant in English (Armhävningar) and when I googled it I got a bunch of links and pictures of push-up bras.  :psyduck:

I guess because we don't translate that part ("push-up bra" -> "push-up behå"), so it gets more prominent on our searches.

And no comments about Claire's face/reaction in the third panel?

Edit: Opps. Thought of the wrong one. Yeah, yay blush-attacks. :3

It's like I'm the only one even TRYING to ship these two.

You will find this addressed in the stickies at the top of this forum, especially in the "Conduct in this forum" thread.  This reads like a historical document now, because the forum has changed - but anyway, we find plenty to talk about without the shipping, and the fact is that uncontrolled shipping pretty quickly leads back to the bad behaviour.  Note that discussion arising from the actual interaction of the characters in the comic need not be seen as shipping - but once it calls itself shipping, then its agenda is seen to have changed.

I swear Jeph made this comic just as an excuse to draw Claire-faces again. Blush, Bad Joke 'Eh, eh?', and Pout all made guest appearances!

Damnit, I thought it strange Zoe would have fucked up a spelling that badly; she's usually pretty conscientious-seeming about that sort of thing. I didn't *actually* get it until Akima. Thanks for the assist, also I love/hate you both. >:(  (bonus points to Finvara)

Also as to exercising...I can't think of any exercises off the top of my head that would work *directly* on shoulder/shoulderblade region muscles, but quite a few of the arm exercises should have an effect.

Actually it occurs to me that weighted shoulder-shrugs are a thing too.

Sorry dude, but Marten knows better than anyone in-comic (and most of us readers know even better than that) that he and Hannelore have no future as a couple, not with those issues she has about sex and even kissing being icky and nasty. He'd have a better shot at stealing Faye away from Angus, or running off to California chasing Padma (and we all know his chances of succeeding at either of those range somewhere between nanometer-slim and none).

Basically, shipping Marten and Hannelore is a waste of time; heck, shipping Hannelore and ANYONE is a waste of time, her issues simply preclude her having a full romantic and sexual relationship. And yeah, the mods kinda frown on it anyway.

I've worked in a library for many years, and the weirdest thing that I've seen is someone come into the library to sell steaks--not from a fundraising catalog, but steaks that had obviously just "fallen off a truck." They were a little put out when I kicked them out. I've occasionally caught people getting or about to get sexual, and more often come across evidence of same (pages in certain books stuck together, used condoms in wastebaskets), but that's really not unusual--it was well known at one of the universities that I attended that a certain men's room on one of the less-used floors of the university library was the campus cruising spot.

Also, Marten doing some exercise that built up only his deltoids would make him look like one of those World of Warcraft avatars that are really skinny but have huge shoulder pads. He should look into some basic weightlifting; there's a school of thought that says that, unless you're a bodybuilder, you really only need to do the overhead press, the bench press, and the squat to stay in shape.

Honestly, I know what Claire feels like, because I've been there. It's not a joke falling flat; you know it's good, and you know the audience knows it's good. It's more like they're reacting as though you've done a Bad Thing and are trying not to encourage it by giving you any attention, which is pretty demoralizing since you thought you were doing a Good Thing- jokes are fun, right? And then the second guessing sets in and you worry if you're a jerk, or they're jerks, or you should swear off puns altogether. Then 5 minutes later you make a joke about Dr. Hu being a President of China with two hearts.

As strange as it might be, it got me wondering, how do the "runners" celebrate their victory? By sticking out the thumb and pinky? (You know, like how some IRL runners raise their arms after crossing the finish line).

My mind goes weird places sometimes.

I don't know why, but I found Emily's laughter on the third panel rather unsettling, as if the tone of her voice changed to make it boom through the library in a manner enough that by the time Marten hears it, it sounds like something outright demonic. And given this is a comic where there were at least three occurences of someone using eldritch speak, I can't say if this would be too out there or not.

Any small thing matter. Even a set of pushups, and chinups/pullups will make a difference, at least in the shoulders department.

Anyway, does anyone else can smell a possible plot development, where some of Marten's bros will fall for Claire, with possible mutuality? If asked for a little wing-help Marten might find himself in kind of a greek tragedy conflict there...
