Time for a new thread, as the old one has reached my length limit.

I am considering adding an industrial piercing, done with a surface bar, to my list of wanted mods.

Quote from: Jace
Still undecided on what I'd want around it, I don't want just words, those are boring, thinking maybe a space scene, with the words as a negative space on the bottom or something. Still sort of just want it around my forearm boxed in black with the words as a negative. Maybe fading the box out some or doing a geometric thing on the edges. To hell with what my girlfriend thinks. She has a flower on her foot and is gonna lecture me on classiness

Also Jace, the space scene with those words in negative sounds like it would look awesome.

Out of curiousity, is anyone of you good at drawing? Because I'm working at the design for my first tattoo, but I suck at drawing so I ain't getting nowhere.

I'm not too shabby

I could use some inspiration too, have been doing mostly graphic design stuff lately so something using a pencil is a welcome change. Wanna PM me with what you're thinking about?

I would greatly appreciate anyone tossing in anything they find to be added to the list as well, especially on the documentary side of things. As I'm sure anyone who has ever tried to find good histories of modern body modification knows, it either focuses on it's origins in the underground gay and S&M culture, or it has an uncomfortably worship like attitude towards the Modern Primitive style movements. I'd like to see something that takes a proper look at it from the cultural appropriation angle seeing as how many rituals and spiritual symbols have been absorbed by it.

I'm sorry I have nothing big to contribute, Stephen. All I can suggest is the Onetribe store as well - onetribe.nu. I've gotten horn from them before and they're super awesome.

Also, I have some intense blowouts on both my lobes from about 8 years ago, when I was a youngin, stretching without a care in the world. It looks like I might just have to get them scalpelled off - they're apparently too old to massage away. Has anyone had something like that done before?

Oh mannnnn I would wear them butt-forward all the time.

Also! I was talking to my piercer about getting something interesting in the top half of my ears. I love the look of industrials, but my ear is just not shaped properly to hold one. He suggested one done with a christina barbell - it's a female genital piercing, so I suggest not looking this up at work - which is basically an L shaped barbell, instead of a straight one. So now I am considering this and also maybe I want a christina piercing because it looks awesome.

Oooh, that sounds cool! I had an industrial for a while but I think my ear was too wonky for it. It pulled weirdly and the bottom part got infected and icky and painful. I let that close up and then stuck a stud in the top part to keep it open, which I believe would be called...umm...almost a forward helix? Does this even have a name?  :psyduck:

I took out the stud fairly recently but I think it closed up, which is insane to me since I think it was 14g.

This post makes me feel like I know absolutely nothing about piercings....

I want to get a daith and industrial piercings.

I'm trying to find an artist to help with a tattoo design but not having much luck. Got a very specific style in my brain and that's holding me back from asking people.

Want something shaded realistically, with a mainly metal texture, to look like it's partially under the skin.

Yay! I think it's definitely worth talking to a good artist about the design you want.

I looked up christina piercings and apparently they take a fucking long time to heal - 4 to 6 months. Maybe I don't want want after all. Sigh.

Nah, it's not actually that long in comparison to several other piercings. Keep in mind that nipples and cartilage piercings are 6 months to a year, usually leaning more towards a full year. Sometimes it can take as long as 18 months. Earlobes are generally considered to take about 3 months. You're healing a hole in your body with a foreign object inserted so it takes a while for it recover completely, especially to develop a strong fistula. The entire healing time is not necessarily going to be like the first week though.

I think my concern is that a crotch piercing that takes a long time to heal is going to be rough - I can't just clean it in the office bathroom mirror when I need to. I dunno. I definitely like the look and idea of it, I just need to really mull it over. Which is what I do with all my piercings anyway.

Well, keep in mind you really shouldn't be cleaning a piercing more than once or twice a day anyways barring a crusty getting in there. Christ I hate when that happens.

I seem to get crusties in my piercings a lot. I have to clean my bridge often - with just a q-tip and hot water - to get them out. Not as much these days, as it is almost healed, but when it was new I definitely had to.

I know that any piercing comes with pain, discomfort, and a healing period that will be no fun. I just have to decide if I'm okay with those things in that area of my body.

I think I'm just going to put it at the bottom of my list of wanted mods and think about it a while.

Seems like a perfectly fine idea. I actually imagine one of the biggest issues for most folks who get a Christina is re-learning how to shave the pubic mound.

Talked with a guy who I forgot to ask the name of because I'm silly about my tattoo idea. He seemed to like it and thought it would be grand but I wasn't ready to book it and he was totally class about it. Also got two holes in my left ear and now I'm symmetrical again!

Talked to my artist, he digs the idea of space with words in it, probably gonna be 2 sessions and rolling with some deep colors. I'm excite. Gonna be in September at the earliest since he is booked out until then.

I've just got to make sure I get it done by mid October to keep up the trend I've had since I was 18 (with one exception) of getting a tattoo at least once a year.

18g is standard for basic earrings. Generally you get a larger size in cartilage piercings, at least when you get them from reputable piercing shops. My guess is that they're 14g. And Welu, your piercer should have told you!

Well, even piercers make mistakes sometimes. That's a pretty small one in the scheme of things. You can always call and ask about it if you're curious.

Thinking about it he may not have said the size because he pierced me before. He didn't remember me but when he asked what I wanted I showed him the ones he did before and said I wanted the same placement on the other side. I was wearing studs and he said, "I would do this with a ring." and I said, "Yeah, I know. You did these ones before for me." He was kind of casual about repeating the cleaning information, since the ones I have are healed fine and he was all, "You know how to do it," but he did tell me it all again and gave the same pamphlet.
I could just be giving a lot of benefit of the doubt because he is very cute and friendly though.
