Last week, I abstained, because I had a wedding to attend on Thursday, and also, I only had two beer remaining. They were Oktoberfest varieties, best saved for October, because duh. However, I imbibed a bit at the reception, finally tried Canadian beer, and the next day, at my uncle's house, had some damn good German Oktoberfest beer. That parrt of the family's into beer. The tables at the reception were named for Michigan breweries, a fact I don't actually know whether I can be proud I recognized. Half recognized. I knew they were breweries. Didn't make the connection between my cousin being a proper Michigander and the locations of said breweries.

Tonight, I have those two I mentioned. Then, I was like, 'that ain't enough,' so I went to a gas station, got some Michelob Ultra, which is one I haven't tried that my aunt recommended, and a Coors Light, which was, as far as I can tell, recommended to me at an critical time in my life by Diggnation, and is therefore, not necessarily by its own virtue, my favorite of the commonly-found beer brands.

I am an efficient drunk, which means the same as it does in cars. An efficient car needs little gas to go further, and similarly, I need only a little alcohol to get me feeling loose. I have thus far had only a pint and a half of Michelob, and am letting the Abita Oktoberfest chill in the freezer for a tad longer while I post this. It has been warming up in a cupboard since I decided to wait until literal October to drink it, but now it's had some time in the freezer.

Any case, I expect the night shall go thusly:
I'll drink more, watch videos of a semi-explicit nature*, and write stories that teeter on the edge of indecency, the way I personally like them.

*'Semi-explicit' meaning it's only explicit if you know the reason behind watching them. Not classically porn, barely even softcore but enough that my school's censors have officially banned this site's content.

Don't pretend your lonely drunken nights don't follow similar patterns, the only difference, I expect, is the writing bit.

I normally don't get bad hangovers. Maybe a bit of a headache when I wake up. But god I really did a number on myself last night. And yeah I drank a lot, but not enough where this should be the worst hangover I've ever had. It's 10 PM. I woke up at noon. My head is still throbbing, and all the Advil and water in the world hasn't helped.

I drank waaaaaaaaay too much yesterday but strangely I have the most pleasant hangover in a very long time. No splitting head ache, no nausea, just a general feeling of sleepiness with a heavy head. And also my whole body is tense, but that's cause I was dancing like crazy last night.

But that being said, I still don't know why I drank seven litres of beer.

Last night became interesting in a way that my drunken nights usually aren't, as in a 'made out with an almost complete stranger' kind of interesting

Looking at that graph while sober (I made the graph while drunk), I'm kicking myself.

That peak should be a Lorentzian, not a Gaussian.

Let's play a game (no this isn't anything like those bad Saw movies)

Don't even think about it, just provide your answer in number form, whatever number first appears in your head.

How many drinks is too many on any given night?

How many is too many in a week? Go.

8 was the number that popped in my head. Not sure why. I do know that 19+ shots is a very, very bad idea. Same guy took Valium because he was drunk and his drunk friend offered him some. It is a wonder he lived through that day.

A week? 17 is the number that popped in my head.

Again, no basis. Just the number that came to mind.

My roomies and I try not to drink more than 3 or 4 times a week. Most times, we go at least a month.

I was very drunk when I wrote that. Looking back on it, my number's are 12 and 30; numbers I go over a decent amount of the time...

Still not as bad as college though!

Depends on the drink, but more than 3 glasses of wine or 4 pints of beer is too much in one night for me, I'm a super lightweight! When it comes to drinks per week, I have no idea really. If I get really drunk one day I'll definitely not want it to happen again anytime soon, but sometimes I'll have one glass of wine or a beer every day for a week, so uhh... maybe 12?

...sorry, couldn't not think  :-P

See, it depends on your definition of 'drinks' and 'night.' At a cast party or any other party with friends, 7-8 beers isn't too much for me. I would never down that many at a bar though, for multiple reasons, the main one is money, secondary to that is that I prefer to get really drunk around people I trust, and lastly bars are usually when I get mixed drinks whereas I reserve beer (or straight liquor if it's a special occasion) for partying purposes. And certainly you wouldn't want to drink that much at a formal event.

There is no response. Because it depends on your tolerance level.

I discovered the other night that eight scotches in one night is probably one too many for a Friday night, but at university I would have 20-25 in one night and make it to the lecture the next day.

I once had a dillema a few semesters ago. I had enough grades accumulated in my accounting course to pass and be above average, but the final exam was all that was left. I asked myself, should I show up or not?

One of my friends solved that question for me by inviting me to his end of semester party and convincing me to show up anyway. In the end I went to a really awesome party and the next morning I still wasn't sobered up when I walked into the class. My exam grade was still above average.

Anyway, changed majors for accounting and management since I can easily pull off accounting even while sweating off enough gin tonics to invade India for Queen and Country.

It's 4:30 AM, I went to [the Alumni Night] party and may have drank an entire fifth of rum in addition to other shots, so I'm unlikely to remember the events of this night, this is the most drunk I've been in a long time, which is why I'm posting here for posterity in the hopes I see it later. Because this night truly was amazing and had some lessons that I could carry with myself forever and it would be a real bad thing if I forgot them because of the state I'm in.

1. Despite my own state of extreme drunkeness, I helped a friend through suicidal thoughts. This friend is going to be okay, in a large part because of what I said. I should be proud of myself because of this.

2. Another friend of mine , showed genuine concern about me, and was the only one who noticed (at least out loud) my recent depression, and also shared some of the dark feelings she's had about herself. She says I'm one of the most caring and selfless people I've met. I don't believe it. I say I feel the same way about her (especially because she was the only one who ever said such nice things about me), she doesn't believe it, and said she's fought through her own feelings of worthlessness and feeling alone. We promised that (as friends) we could support each other through our anxiety and fears. Don't forget to do this. Also she wasn't the only one. [redacted] (for the benefit of you forum readers: ex crush) confessed that I was her oldest friend at this university and that I was the primary reason she didn't drop out. PEOPLE DO CARE ABOUT ME. PEOPLE THINK I'M IMPORTANT EVEN IF I DON'T

That's all, good night.

Just rediscovered that^ post, which I guess was the purpose of posting it. First of all the beginning of February feels like fucking forever ago even though it really wasn't. Second...I very rarely get drunk enough to forget nights but I need to start keeping a drunk journal if that's the sort of stuff that actually happens when I do.

Also wow my flagrant use of real names and name-dropping the organization that kind of broke the rules by hosting that party. Definitely editing that.

A question my curiosity has raised:

Why do you/we drink?

I was drinking last night and thinking about how I don't drink if it tastes or smells like alcohol (because my taste buds are very sensitive, and I'm technically not supposed to be drinking in the first place, so it might as well be worth skipping my meds for). So if it's not to get the taste of alcohol (which smells and tastes like moldy bread to me), then what am I doing?

Not to get existential on you, but what's the point? What do you gain from drinking? (This is not rhetorical or sarcastic or condescending. Think about it.) I'd really like to know what you think and how you feel about it.

I drink maybe once a month or so, so it's not like I'm terribly concerned about liver damage or the majority of the negative effects of drinking way too much. It's just something I wonder about.

Like, if I'm drinking it because it's delicious, is it not theoretically possible to find an equally delicious fruit juice? But alcohol does come in more flavors..................................... Hm.

Anyway, why do you drink? When do you drink? When do you NOT drink?

Last weekend was a bit of a piss-up, had a hair of the dog Monday to kill the hangover.  That was for effect.  Just wanted to be completely numb.  Most of the time, it's usually because it's a social activity (at the pub).  I still go there sometimes when I'm not drinking, but having a couple of beers seems to enhance the experience.

Unless I plan on getting drunk, I don't drink at home unless it's whisky.  I very much enjoy a good one, and there is no way to create an alternative.

On the advice of my doctor, I have a glass of red wine with or after dinner (best advice from a doctor ever).  If we go out to dinner I will have a drink, Guinness at my favorite Irish pub, or a margarita at my favorite Mexican place, with dinner, or a sangria at a seafood place.  Other than that, I don't drink much, but every so often a nice shot of Laphroaig goes very well as a nightcap.

Mostly I have a drink because it tastes good with the food I am eating.

Still not a whiskey/scotch person. Tried some Crown Royal on the rocks and it was slow going.

Also tried Oberon and it's not half bad. Reminds me of a Leinenkugel Summer Shandy. Though any time I think about it I remember he was the king of the fairies.

10 PM me wanted to go to bed early (despite the fact that Mondays are my day off) because I had a 13 hour work day

2 AM me (me right now) - 4 beers, 3 shots, many blunt hits, and several new friends made later - thinks that 10 PM me is stupid. It may have been a really busy day and week but I'm glad I decided to party instead of crash early.

I feel like tonight was a good night because I really got over my fears of being in a new place and around new people and let myself go a bit just as I would with old friends.

But I work with kids... they're loud.

Anyway, I seem to be having a reoccurring problem where some of my beer dribbles down the side of my mouth. Like an Airplane-esque kind of drinking problem.

Last night, I helped compose my new favorite cocktail:

30 ml mezcal
30 ml ancho chili liqueur
10 ml good agave
up to 3 drops angostura
2 drops orange bitters

Prepare like an Old Fashioned and then add just one generous drop of chocolate bitters. Serve in a lowball glass with one giant ice cube and go slow. The flavor changes considerably as the drink is diluted, but it's delicious at every stage :)

What's mezcal again? If my memory serves (and it's shaky at best) that stuff isn't available in the EU for the same reason "classic" absinthe isn't available here.

tequila is to mezcal what's scotch to whiskey? a specific sub-type? (that comparison probably limps)

Yep. Tequila is mezcal made from one particular variant of the agave plant.

I have been drinking more since the situation but tonight is the first time I'd say I've been drunk. I miss my friends and family. Had a great video chat with my immediate family and it feels so good to laugh.

Hello I am drunk again and made me and my spouse toasties. The ultimate drunk food for me. I did break my favourite glass though trying to put a big lump of ice in it. That was bad but the toasties are good.

I bought a bottle of ouzo sometime after the QC comic where Brun is drinking ouzo. The last time I had ouzo was my senior year in college, during my first time out drinking after I turned 21. (I was a huge nerd. I went drinking with the physics department chair). I remembered it being delicious, which contradicts the description of it in QC. Tonight I finally opened the bottle and tried it out.

And, let me tell you, it is just as delicious as I remember.

I suppose that depends on how much one likes the taste of anise.

Pat is the only person left at the QC bar, it would seem.

I on the other hand am waiting for him at the 'coffee shop' next door.
