I wouldn't feel safe around a cat that much bigger than me.
Oh god that would be terrifying! having a pet cat that size? I think you would be the pet/snack!
Not as long as you have the skill to use the can opener.

keep him fed and often or else you're next (and there cant be a hole where the food was, cats then think its empty even though theres plenty of food around it)

"Ethnic" means "not a part of white culture".
Just so. The slightly more up-market version is to refer to "World Music".

"Ethnic" sounds ... problematic. Maybe "old" or "not often seen, these days" or something would be more accurate.
Old? The erhu and the violin both evolved from the same Central Asian bowed stringed instruments, so it is hard to decide which is older, assuming either is. And not often seen these days? In Europe or the USA maybe, but instruments like pipa, dizi, erhu, guzheng, yangqin etc. are commonplace in Chinese classical music, opera, movie soundtracks, popular music, metal bands (see above) and even in the hands of street-musicians busking on metro stations.

All of the above-mentioned instruments:

Classical pipa? We've got that covered:

Jazzed up electric version? Yeah, we can do that:

I apologize for the horrible wording in my last post, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I couldn't find the right word to describe what I was thinking and "ethnic" kept coming up. "Traditional" would of been a better word. I haven't seen it used outside of Asian  music and I thought "ethnic" meant something like instruments that came from <country>.

Basically I was trying to say that I really liked the way they used their traditional instruments in that song.  See Graveworm - Fear of the Dark for another example (bagpipe solo in a metal song ftw).

Also, that picture is awesome.. I'm watching it and imagining that guy making "wooshing" noises :)

Have a dude shitting himself on live tv :)

What I want to know is.. how was that in the related videos to a Starcrafts video by Carbot?

I know you had no ill intent, and I apologise for "picking on you" a bit, but "ethnic" carries a lot of baggage in contexts like "ethnic music", "ethnic food" etc.

On the other hand, erhu is awesome, and welcome to the admirers' club! No instrument weeps like the erhu. Except when it doesn't:
BTW, for those who do not know, erhu (二胡 èrhú) is pronounced, roughly, "are-who" not "err-who".

Apropos of not much, I have a copy of this book, bought when it was first published.  It has the distinction of the only book I have ever bought that came with uncut pages; the torn edges of the pages (opened with a paper knife) give it a feeling that no other book of mine has.  But my point in mentioning it is that the main bulk of it is overwhelmingly taken up with instruments that are not part of the western classical music tradition.

A typical page, opened at random, contains the entries (only summarised here):

Hornprinzipal (an organ stop)
Hornwerk (an organ whose pipes all sound simultaneously, as a signal calling to worship)
Horologium (a wheel with bells on, which tinkle when it is rotated)
Hörpauke, Hörpaigge (variant of Heerpauke: a kettledrum, or an organ stop imitating a drum)
Hosanna (a small carillon patented in France in 1898)
Ho sheng (see Ho: a small sheng of China, with 13 pipes)
Hourglass drum (a drum smaller in the middle than at the ends, found in Asia, E. Africa, Melanesia)
Hpa si (see Ka si: Burmese bronze kettle gong, with four pairs of ornamental frogs - also Kaun chet)
Hruozza (Cruit; glossed in 10th c. as Sambuca)
Hsiang ch'ih (percussion stick of china made of redwood; in N. China, used at funerals)
Hsiang pan (percussion plaque of China, made of thick brass)
Hsiao (end-blown flute of China; full name Feng huang hsiao, modern version is Tung hsiao)
Hsiao ku (small frame drum of China, played with a knobbed withy)
Hsiao tse (= Ko ling)
Hsien tse (= San hsien)
Hsing erb (Chinese cymbals; in N. China, almost hemispherical in shape)
Hsing lung sheng (Chinese term for organ, introduced from the West by Kublai Khan)
Hsiian (ovoid globular flute of China, known since the Shang period, of bone, clay or porcelain)

It's the kind of book you can get lost in for hours following cross-references.

The word "ethnic" does not appear (of course!).  The preface says: "...this dictionary in incomplete.  [...] listed well over five thousand books and papers on non-European and folk instruments alone;".

That young lady is very talented indeed! I have always enjoyed the Ehru, especially it's more "somber" pieces. I have never in fact heard a fast piece for it before. Very impressive.

I would challenge your statement that no inturment can weep like the ehru can, the violin cries with a lot of emotion.

The piano too can have a powerful voice.

I actually really enjoy instruments that people don't expect being sad's mourning cries.

I was looking for sad pipe music and got lost. I found this cross over set featuring traditional Chinese instruments and the pipes of all things.

Good stuff that is.

Now some pipes.

And to bring you all down from what some of you heathens likely think of as torture of a cat, here's my favorite relaxation instrument. The Shakuhachi is a flute of Japanese origin.
