Besides Mulan she's (Leia) also the only Disney Princess any daughter of mine will be encouraged to look to as a role model. Great you found a pair of glittery heels, save China or lead an insurrection against an over powering evil empire then I'll be impressed.

Don't forget about Tiana! (princess and the frog)
She's the only disney princess with a career path in mind throughout the story, and she puts a huge emphasis on achieving her goals through commitment and hard work. Even when she falls in love she still gets her restaurant.

I haven't seen that one yet either! I know it's a Disney movie but it's not that old so come on now.

I enjoyed it - the plot is slightly less demeaning than some of the older ones and although there were stereotypes in evidence, I don't think (although I could be wrong) that it was particularly racist when it very easily could have been.

Wait, Princess and the frog was racist?  A workaholic woman who has a dream of owning her own restaurant and a foreign lazy prince gold digger?   All with a new orleans vibe complete with a shadow man voodoo villain?

Thought it was a nice touch that Tatiana's father was a soldier from WW1.  Tells you around what time the story takes place (1930s).

Lee, I can't work out whether you're being sarcastic or not. I'm pretty sure that the USA racial stereotypes are different from the UK ones - if only because our ethnic diversity is different - so maybe I just don't recognise problematic references. I freely admit to being blinded by my own privilege at times.

Sorry, was serious with just a tough of sarcasm about the characters.  granted I have only seen the movie once and wasn't really looking for it.  It was general curiosity on how it was racist. I am sure if I watched it again a few times I could probably find a thing or two. I keep getting weird things on news feeds about "the one thing no one noticed about tangled" but again I have only seen that disney movie once and I am not sure what I missed or what the hell they are talking about.  Tangled was awesome IMHO.

The only recent Disney movie I've seen was Tangled. Which was kick ass.

I love tangled!

But I also really liked Princess and the Frog. I didn't detect any condoned racism in the movie, but then I might have missed something really subtle.

There is a point where two white bank owners refuse to give Tiana a loan because of "her background" but that was clearly condemned in the movie. Also the movie was careful as to the skin tones, i.e. the villain didn't have the darkest skin color, the heroine wasn't the lightest character, etc....

Wasn't the bad guy a Baron Samedi expy? That and voodoo could be taken negatively I suppose, but from what I know it's set in the New Orleans/Louisiana type area, and voodoo still goes on TODAY. It's as much part of creole culture as delicious, extremely spicy food.

True but I think that was the point. I saw it as more of the reflection of the time and place they were living in (1930s New Orleans).  If anything, Disney acknowledged that it existed.

exactly!

also tangled was incredibly adorable with a lot of squee moments.  Also the musical number with the mother in the beginning is pretty dark and shows how she controls her.

yeah, all my pants end up being baggy which TOTALLY looks professional at work.  :-P  I don't like turtle necks in general.  Other than the kilt, as a dude, I do not wear skirts.  I actually do not own any boots.  I have 5 pairs of shoes.  Jogging shoes (gym only), sneakers(for casual), dress shoes (for work or formal occasions), flip flops (for pool or public showers), and my dance shoes (for when I used to tango).  Don't wear t-shirts in general anymore except around the house.  I generally wear golf shirts as my casual top of choice.  More form fitting for me than t's now.

Or, buy trousers that are too long but fit perfectly otherwise, and hem them. It's really easy!

Brain says: those are girl pants.  I wear jeans and dress pants.  Can't hem jeans.  I don't even think I have a pair of sweat pants or corduroys.

Capris are sort of shaped differently to normal length trousers though, aren't they? In the picture it makes it look like the knees are in a strange place. Plus you might not be short enough that they look like full lengths on you and just look a little too small.

As one who is 6'5", I've never had a problem with clothes that are too long, just clothes that are not long enough.

And pants.  Don't get me started on pants.  I have a 35 inch waist and a 36 inch inseam.  I'll go 36x36 and just wear a belt, but dammit are they near impossible to find.  There's plenty of 36x34s, 36x32s, 40x36s, 38x36s, but finding a 36x36 is like hunting for a goddamn unicorn and dammit I got started on pants.

Oddly enough, I have a pair of cargo shorts that I've had for over 10 years, and they still fit just fine.  Back when I got them I had a 32 inch waist...but even now they'll slide right off if I'm not wearing a belt.  Either they've stretched over the years or I never realized how gargantuan they were when I got them.

Speaking of shorts, all shorts are short shorts when you're tall -_-

Can't hem jeans.
Not so. Either google "how to hem jeans preserving original hem" or do what I do, and take them to a Chinatown tailor. And there is nothing wrong with short pants:

I wondered briefly if the girls and tank picture was inspired by Girls und Panzer - but perhaps not...

Perhaps it's part of a spin off "Girls Und Panzergrenadier"

Not so. Either google "how to hem jeans preserving original hem" or do what I do, and take them to a Chinatown tailor. And there is nothing wrong with short pants:

Short pants work on women way better than on men as far as fashion goes.  I had no idea people actually hemmed jeans.  Wouldnt want to pay the extra money for a tailor to hem jeans, would rather just buy a pair in my size   Sad thing is I very well may have to.  I'll look into it.  :-)

Oddly enough I didnt see the picture until I quoted you and had to copy and past the link.

Re: Hemming. Just get needle and thread and do it yourself, it's cheap and easy and you don't even need a sewing machine. If you're hesitant, look at hemming tutorials online and practice on an old and worn out pair of jeans you know you won't be wearing again, if you have a pair like that.

I always have to un-hem pants... as in pull out the seams at the bottom so they're longer. I'm not all that tall but women's pants are rarely sold by length and the basic length is too short for me.

My cousin Kevin accidentally made a yaoi of him and our cousin's husband with an app.  Jeannine is worried he is trying to steal her husband now (in a joking way of course).

(cant for the life of me figure out how to re-size this image smaller)

@nekowafer: did not know that about lady pants.
