No earrings?  Isn't she worried they'll start to heal?

Probably just forgot to draw them. He'll probably edit them in if someone points it out.

Lost a bet once with my brother and his friend and had to wear his sister's three inch heels...ended up with a strained ankle.

Tried wearing a pair of mens dress shoes with raised heels, wound up slipping on the floor, ripped my pants, and nearly blew out the ligaments in my knee

Poor Claire is on the verge of being crushed by Emily- best to just agree with her and let things slide, Claire  :-D

Dang, Claire looks fetching.
Emily is not weird, she is... Well... A bit weird, but not that much. I prefer her brand of adorable-weird over angst and worry (which are for some reason not considered weird) any time of the day.

Emily isn't weird she is just honest enough to be who she really is.

Regarding the potential Marine. They can be written in a fashion similar to Lt. Porter. When not in uniform or off duty they are pretty laid back. Though for ease of writing she can be made similar to Faye in personality.

Hey, have we ever seen Emily this intense before?  The you-forgot-my-banana-smoothie incident comes to mind, but it really pales in the follow-through.

Unless SMiF has an ROTC program, the presence of a Marine would be unlikely, unless she's posted to Boston.

I'd bet you North Hampton has a recruiting office. Also our theoretical Marine/veteran could easily be attending SMiF on the Montgomery GI bill after getting out of the Marines.

I have never seen the attraction of that supposed effect.  To my eyes high heels just look clumsy, and that's all.

And in my opinion women's calves generally look pretty amazing all by themselves. No need to gild the lily, ladies.

Circling back to the comic: This is the most revealing outfit I can recall Claire wearing yet. Granted, it's not all that revealing, but she exposed less skin at the lake house.

When I wear high heels it is because I want to look taller. High heels are pretty good at achieving that effect.

I have to say.. I really like Claire's boots in this comic. I like all of her outfit.. except I would not wear that top with at skirt. It seems to unbalanced to me, in color and 'weight'. It's a light, summery sort of top, and a heavier, fall sort of skirt/tights/boots combination. But that's really just my opinion. :)

In regards to heels... I actually like them. And I'm unusual in the fact that I've never had any real problem walking in them. The only ones I have had problem with are my pirate costume boots with the tall, thin heels and uneven surfaces.... However I almost never wear heels. Part of it is that at 5'10" I already loom over many women and some men, so adding another four inches just makes  me feel like I stand out even more than usual. As I put it.. Heels make me feel like a 'Trannysaurus Rex'. :) The other side to that of course is that I have very large feet (size 13), so just finding shoes in my size that I can afford can be difficult enough. Finding cute shoes that I like is even harder.

I'm thinking it's all part of the same arc. And I'd include the blue dress she wore at the wedding. Possibly even the frilly princess dress she tried on, even though I thought it was hideous - she clearly liked it. It's all part of her deciding she likes who she is and how she looks now.

I had a kind-of-similar revelation at about the same age as Claire, while I trying on a tux for a friend's wedding. I looked in a mirror and thought, "Goddamn! I look good in this!"

I think high heels are attractive, and women can wear them if they want, but I'd prefer people wear things that are comfortable if they are going to be on their feet all day. Basically, I'd rather someone save their feet and my ears about how much their feet hurt than look marginally better.

This might be also why I'm jeans/shorts, t-shirts, no shoes/vibrams in almost every day of my life. Fuck looking good for other people, I'm going to be COMFORTABLE.

For my placements, which can be between 9 and 14 hour shifts, I wear the most hideous but comfortable shoes. During the day I just wear comfortable waterproof shoes (Doc Martens at the moment). But for a special event, say for a dinner in a nice restaurant, I would maybe wear heels since I'd be sitting down a lot. It's about suiting the shoes to the occasion!

I've noticed this. Maybe because it's new, but it looks really weird and a little unclear.

I've also noticed that Emily's hair is just really, really strange. It looks like a razor sharp edge.

Exactly. I always get exasperated if I'm going somewhere with someone and its obviously going to be an on your feet experience (like a zoo or something), and they start complaining to me about their feet hurting because they wore impractical shoes. I just want to yell that its their own fault but I refrain.

For a Marine, not likely except for recruiting post. For Air Force, it's not out of the question with Barnes and Westover Air Bases in Westfield and Chicope being within reasonable distance to Northampton

Re: Shoes
I don't wear high heels very often, but I bought boots that are pretty similar to Claire's about two months ago. The heels and shafts are actually not that high. But they are really comfortable, since they support the foot well and are pretty broad in the front, so my feet don't get squashed wearing them. So at least boots with high heels do not have to be uncomfortable.
Still hard to wear them for an entire day standing up or walking around, though, since so much weight still lies on the front of the foot.

I have basically those boots in grey. I love them, but then again, I love most of my heels. I actually wear heels most days, although often they're not very high and are quite wide. I actually learned to walk in heels before I started transitioning the awesoming, when I was learning ballroom dance (in the latin dances, everyone wears heels). Then again, I never found it particularly difficult (stilettos, on the other hand—those are tricky).

Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to measure your heel height.
