So I was having a dream this morning that I went shopping to buy myself something. I think it was like a black handbag? Anyway, I decided after a bit that I didn't like it and went back to the shop and pretended it had been an unwanted gift for my mum. The sales assistant explained I could only exchange and not refund, which was really frustrating because I wanted my $50 back.
Around this point I started waking up but forced myself to keep dreaming until I found something in the store that I actually wanted to exchange. I considered some tacky jewellery and boring clothes before I noticed another part of the store and found a perfect mint green crockpot (I really want a crockpot) discounted to $34.95. As soon as I picked it up my alarm went off. Phew!

Yesterday was exciting! I got in a car accident for the first time — the first time I myself was a driver involved, that is. The driver in front of me first slowed slightly, then slammed her brakes when she suddenly noticed a sizable recess in the ground ahead of her. I, reacting first to her slight slowing did not expect her to stop so suddenly as she did, and just as she passed over the recess, i skidded over the gravel at its bottom and rear-ended her.  The driver behind me did something much the same.  Nobody got hurt, but weirdly enough though my car was hit both from the front and back, it appears undamaged, while the other two cars did not fare so well.

The reason I was out was to pick up a friend so we could go with my parents to dim sum! We went to Chinatown and had lots of super tasty food: shu mai, chicken feet, pot stickers, etc. and several kinds of dumpling with indeterminate nomenclature, described to us by their contents in thickly accented English.  Thennnn, we went to a movie theatre and saw the new Pedro Almodovar film, Broken Embraces (Los Brazo Rotos).  Some reviews I'd read before seeing it seemed to think Almodovar's slipping, but I saw no evidence of that. Tons of beautiful shots, a story excellently told, and thoroughly engrossing. A lot of Almodovar's ensemble make appearances, and the film-within-a-film riffs on Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. See it see it!

so for the last couple of weeks my sleep pattern has been shittier than usual, and shitty sleep patterns are not a particularly new thing to me except this new thing has been happening where every morning, when my alarm wakes me up, i go through a brief few minutes where i seriously honest to god am on the verge of panic because i have no idea who the fuck i am or where i live or where i work or what day of the week or month of the year it is and i have to think really fucking hard for a short while before all that stuff slowly starts coming back to me. then i go to sleep that night and the same thing happens again the next morning.

does this happen to anyone else? it's really scary! it is probably sleep deprivation or stress or both, either way i don't like it and i guess this is my body telling me i need to do something to correct it already.

Since last Wednesday my left forearm has been asleep from the elbow down. I can sort of work some feeling back into the ring and pinky fingers but my index and middle and thumb no luck. What's surprising is that while the hand is sore and I can't feel half of it, I can still type moderately well with it. It makes everything else using finger dexterity a lot harder though, so I'm going to schedule my 2nd doctor's appt of the month tomorrow morning, just before I have to go to the dentist.

Also I trimmed my mohawk today. I think I'm going to do this weekly to keep it in excellent rocking condition.

It would be very noisy, though.

I spent an hour today pretending to be in a jury deciding an inheritance case, and earned fifteen pounds (incidentally and irrelevantly, my keyboard is being stupid and when I try to do a pound sign it does # and when I do a hash sign it does \. The at sign does " and the quotations does @. What is going on?) Not bad! Although I was disheartened because two members of our six-man jury talked the rest of us into not given the plaintiff anything, when most of us started out wanting to give her three hundred thousand or up. It wasn't a real case, but these are the people who will be serving on real juries with real outcomes. Not a good sign.

Yeah, apparently my beard makes me suspicious or something. It seems like about half of the flights I've been on since I grew it out years ago have required me to go through extra screening.

It gets pretty annoying after a while!

The anti-terrorism laws in Britain give police officers the power to search your hair for items that may be used for terrorism. What are they expecting to find, explosive head lice?

When I was going to and from america I got pulled out of line for extra pat downs. This was hardly surprising if you consider that I was wearing giant black boots, military issue trousers and a black trench coat. I don't look like a conventional terrorist but I'm sure in about 40 years I will. They're just getting ready.

my dad kept getting extra security too every time he flew last summer. we're part native american, so he's got a little darker skin and black hair, and at the time it was my hometown's 125th so he'd grown a terrible terrible beard (better than chris' but not better than nodaisho's) and he is paraplegic so he's got a wheelchair too. i called him terrorist basically all the time after that

Half a pint of tequila in an entire day? That sounds doable. Just space it out right, eat food and drink water. Depends on one's constitution, I suppose.

Or did you mean all in one go?

Hey guys guys GUYS I am so excited (yes this will be derby related so tune out now if you are sick of my derby blabbing - THIS MEANS YOU OLD MAN HOCKING <3)

So we had speed and endurance training on Tuesday night.  Turns out I am the best skater on the team, and they paired me with the coach for a few drills and sprints and I would have WON dammit if my wheels were better and didn't just slide out from under me when I got really fast so I slipped over on the corner but then he fell down right in front of me so i count that as a victory!  Anyway he was like, I think we have a Jammer!  And told me I am going to be an awesome jammer and that makes me REALLY HAPPY because for the past year I have wanted to be a jammer in derby so badly! So after I get to level 2 they are going to start me on lots of speed skating practice but I have to buy better wheels or I will just axe myself on the corners all the time.

I have finally found something I love and am GOOD AT.  Also I am getting hella fit.  I am going to have the most amazing ass after the next few months.

Yay Jodie! I'm gonna go check out the edinburgh roller derby squad on sunday to see what it's all about!

Okay, so I am going to go buy future of the left tickets and bear in heaven tickets (so excited because the venue that they'll be playing in is tiny and always has super awesome bands on and I really like the manager and etc.) However, the future of the left gig apparently friends of the girl I broke up with last week and who now hates me are also going. I am not going to let their glares get between me and a good rocking out though damn it. Also, in total, those tickets are going to cost me like 14 pounds which is awesome.

Edit: Thwarted! tickets-scotland doesn't sell fotl tickets here in edinburgh. this means I have to wait till monday to see if I can even go. Damn.

Actually, I feel great, because so far my day is way better than his.  I'm gonna go get a haircut and chase some tail at a couple big box stores or something.

So they cut off the steam to the building I work in today. This means that we get no heat and a couple of the things I need to use today don't work (autoclave, I'm looking in your direction).

This kinda sucks!

I went to a fancy dinner party at a fancy hotel restaurant last night! It was quite fancy. We had to dress all properly, so I was in high heels all night and barely ever got a chance to sit, so by the end of the night my feet were killing me. And for some reason drinking one delicious beer(Lambic!) and a screwdriver, sort of got me a bit tipsy. Which didn't hit me until we were driving, so I'm thankful for that, because it was my boyfriend's company party. His coworker's/friend's "girlfriend" got really really drunk, and was then making people do shots with her/talking really loudly/hugging everyone, and that was sort of awkward. But everybody had fun! And we ate fancy foods! And got to enjoy a really fancy bar because the previously mentioned friend/coworker has *connections*!

Also, an older group of older ladies who wish they were still young and hip(one was wearing a run dmc shirt and they were all super overly made up) got all annoyed with us, and stole chairs from the one table people from our group were sitting at, to put their coats in. And then got pissed off when one of the guys in our group accidentally bumped into one of them while laughing, and then apologized! She said "You better be sorry!" and I just feel like that isn't a very appropriate response. Sorry we are younger than you, and more successful than you were at this age.(well, I am not successful, but my boyfriend and his coworkers are, so I guess the median of the group is young and successful and those ladies need to chill) But they kept shooting us dirty looks all night, but it wasn't like we were being obnoxious or anything. Plus our friend/coworker kept talking with the chef all night, and the bartenders really liked us, and sorry that we were being happy and celebratory.

But overall, it was a good time. I felt a bit like a 50's housewife though because I wore a sort of pin-up-y dress(this dress! but I took the white belt off and wore a little sort of smallish cardigan sweater) and was on my boyfriend's arm all night and chatting up his boss and coworkers, and telling everybody about baking and everybody wants me to bake them some bread and I felt very domestic.
