ah, so that's what the "cry about it" was all about.  i suspected as much, but didn't want to jump to conclusions.  the reason why i said what i did was that i have the same idea about this thread as Jeph - ie: a thread to put useful info into.  in any event, there are enough complaint threads in the WoW general forums to cover us for a lifetime.

but anyway, let's get this back on topic.

after watching a lvl 12 Paladin take on two 8 warriors an 11+ warrior and a 10 wizard and win, i'm actually seriously thinking about changing my warrior to a paladin for ease of levelling up to hit the level reqs for tradeskills.  the warrior isn't all that much fun to play.  i've only just got defensive stance, though, so maybe that'll help out a little.

still trying to decide.  i've heard that Paladins are grossly overpowered up until they hit around level 40, then they turn to shit.  well, i don't think i'll be taking it up that far, maybe 35 max for max non-specialised tradeskills, but that's it.

oh!  also, i am having scads of fun with my Warlock.  at the moment she is lvl 10, and her shiny new Voidwalker helped beat down 4 level 8 wolves at once.   also, at level 7 i was /duelled by a lvl 10 mage, and i kicked her ass.

I'm afraid pallys will get their nerfing, maybe today, maybe tomorrow, but there is a general discontent about them. I mean, come on, they ARE overpowered and EVERYONE knows! Unless the Blizzard crew like to have servers with Alliances of 70% Paladins or more, I really think there will be more equality soon.

In other matters, I'm finally feeling like I have a lvl30~ character Mark of the Wild is the BEST FRIGGIN BUFF ever, and it only gets better later.. I seriously hope the Dire Bear form is worth it, cuz i forgot about the Bear as soon as i got my Cat (which is why i had to create a Rogue in a PVP server and check out the extreme fun about them )..

Another dilemma I'm on is the thing about talents. I found this site and have made quite a few templates to follow.. If i wasn't SUCH A TERRIBLE DECISSION MAKER i could then use one of them.. Maybe a FULL cat could be nice.. mmm

Anyway, I'm off to play.. I've spent 10 hours on lvl 31 and that's not good.. But I finally got my Sleeper Rod from Kelris at Blackfathom Deeps yay me!

I cannot BELIEVE how much shit there is to do in Stranglethorn. I've been playing there and nowhere else for days now and my quest log just keeps filling up no matter how quickly I polish them off. The hunting is good too, I routinely make 3-5g off of a full inventory's worth of loot...and then promptly spend it all at AH and in training.

Combat/Subtlety was definitely a good talent line for me to follow. I'm getting critical hits (in the 400-500 damage range against stuff that's my level!) more than 50% of the time with Ambush and Backstab (I think) and just having a lot of fun with my character in general.

My lvl 34 NE Rogue Gavriel is pretty awesome...I crit a lot on ambush and BStab for over 400 dmg...I'm following the Assassination tree along with a few talents here iand there in the other ones (like the one that increases stealth speed)...
And what the hell are you looting that all together gives you 3-5 gold?! .when my pack is full it's only around 2 gold....
then again i usually have 2 packs full of  poisons and herbs/potions for alchemy so....
I should start farming some herbs hardcore and making potions to sell more at the AH...

On another note..Do any of you all play any alternative characters when you're bored of playing your main? I have a lvl 6 Gnome Warrior named 'Anklebiter' He's hilarious! who'd a thunk a gnome could be a warrior?! I can't wait till he's high lvl and can wear plate armor..i'm sure it'll look hilarious. he has pink hair. nuff said.

I've got three 10-slot bags, my backpack, and a quiver. One 10 slotter is for poisons, the rest is for loot and quest items.

The Bristly Whiskers you find on the cats in SV sell for like 7s apiece, so those really add up.

Also I pickpocket every humanoid I come across, and at level 30-36 they usually have a silver and some change on them.

wow strange.. i have three 10 slotters and one 12 slot...I also do the pickpocketting but I suppose that because you are 2 levels above me, you can kill more mobs in STV thus getting some higher lvl loot.
also, For my ranged weapon I use throwing knives instead of bows..

The aligity bonuses the bows give are negligible to me cause i have room for another bag which brings in more money...that's just my logic though

Also what kinda weapons do you use currently?
I have a 23.9 dps Howling Blade dagger and a 18.9 dps dagger of some other sort...

last night i did a little skilling up with my skinning, then hit the Wetlands, as it's the best hunting ground for my level (was 22, now 23).  as an indication of how little i've been playing my mage recently, i started the night fully rested with my exp bar just a little into 22.  when i finished, my exp bar was about 1/5th into 23 and the end of my rested was still not in sight.  i'm guessing that after i level to 24 i *might* see the end of my rested area somewhere in the second half of the exp bar.  i've been spending way too much time crafting lately, and not enough levelling.  i plan on remedying this quick-smart.

i'm on a few quests at the moment which look pretty good.  killing raptors and so forth.  their teeth are excellent money, i just wish that they dropped more often.  i have another quest to kill Troggs(?) and collect flint, but every time i get anywhere near the swamps a bajillion crocs appear and fuck with my shit.  it is getting beyond a joke.

in order to make the quest a little safer i teamed up with a Warlock dude who seemed to be both blind and deaf.  at one point he pulled an entire camp of dudes that were about 5 levels above us onto us.  do warlocks have the same level restrictions on their spells?  (ie: anything higher than 2 levels gets massive resists).  another time we were looking for Giant Crocs for a quest.  i "found" one (it appeared next to me & aggroed) and i kept telling him in both /party chat and /whisper that i had found one and that it was on me.  i watched him keep on walking around looking for one while i died.  i used the soulstone that he'd given me earlier to resurrect, and he seemed completely oblivious to my death.  it was at this point that i politely excused myself and we parted company.

now i need to save up 3g before/around the time that i hit lvl 24.  "why?" you ask?  well, to get the 4 spells that i want, plus re-spec my talent points  so that they are not totally fucked-up anymore that is what it will take.  each new spell is like, 50sp.  i guess that i am supposed to be making more money by now, but i can't really see where it would be coming from :/

Cheesepie, you don't have to use a quiver or ammo pouch to utilize a bow or gun. Doing so just raises your DPS with said weapons by a listed %.

Money does come in a lot more rapidly as you level up. Just remember to keep and look up any items you loot that have a white name. If it's white it is used in a tradeskill somewhere and people will pay money on the AH for it.

I've very rarely had trouble with competition for spawns. And if someone is several levels over the level of the quest mobs the quest is probably still yellow to them and even green quests are giving me several thousand xp nowadays and so are worth doing.

Haeze, how were those druids killstealing from you? In my experience so far it is impossible to do so because the first to hit a mob for damage locks that mob until they either runaway or they are killed. The closest I can think of is if you clear to a mob like a named one or something and then someone jumps ahead of you and takes it while you are killing the last mob. This kind of griefing happens a lot with mining and such. I also won't do it to other Horde folks but I have lost count of the number of times I have run up on an alliance toon trying to mine something and just jumped on the node ahead of them. I consider training to be a bit to much though if they aren't flagged for pvp myself though.

Speaking of pvp and such though I dueled a rogue the other night with my mage when he was insulting me with emotes while I was minding my own business. I let him have his way and let him straight up melee me until I was low on health. Then I blinked away and nuked him down while he tried to figure out where I had gone, lol. One more level with my mage and he will have one more insta cast nuke and duels will get even easier.

Oh yeah Nightscape is some sweet armor, it was tough for me to switch to Tough Scorpid and give up that stamina, but the higher agi and ac is worth it I think.

i am well aware that most people seem to think that anything White is used in tradeskills.  White just means that it's a Common item, whether or not it's used in tradeskills aside.  they might all be, for all i know, and i'm sorry if you already knew this, etc, but i am getting lots of people telling me the same (semanticly wrong) thing lately & it's starting to bug me.

as for Haeze's killstealers, they weren't killstealing as such, just intentionally working the same mobs as he was in order to piss him off.  i am guessing that as there was two of them they could work through them faster or something.

and as for the duel: if he was an anywhere near decent player he would have expected you to blink away, (it's like, textbook mage tactics) so watch it, us mana-flingers don't have the kind of health reserves it takes to be cocky like that

also: my price-shock on tradeskills has been somewhat abated, as i realise that you can actually sell most items back to a vendor for a small profit.  i totally didn't expect this, as i am from EQ originally & am used to them absolutely fucking tradeskillers over in that regard.   combine that with not  breaking things when you fail an item & i'm actually pretty damn happy about the way tradeskills are panning out.  now all i have to do is go on a humanoid mob killing spree to grab some wool & silk for my tailor & all is good++

I am pretty sure everything I have found so far that has a white name is used for atleast one tradeskill recipe or is a quest item. The Quest items are pretty few and far in between. Actually I have found one item and only gotten it once that is white and so far has no use on Thott. It's some crimson flower I believe, it's still in my bank as an oddity.

Hehehe yeah the duel was probably one of his first mage encounters or he wouldn't have looked so confused. Given that mages are typically going to win versus a Rogue in a 1 on 1 I was being cocky. It'd be nice if they could balance all the classes against each other but that is about an impossible task so they went with the better choice of trying to balance group vs group.

Almost forgot I saw someone complain about hunters using pets in duels. The pet is almost useless in duels as it is to lottle damge to matter much except versus a cloth class maybe. It's primary purpose as a tank for the hunter is totally negated since it's pvp and most players aren't going to want to let the hunter stay far enough away to use ranged. My hunters damage output goes all to hell when he has to melee rather than use ranged.

Tradeskills are so much more usefull throughout in this game than in EQ it is crazy. The fact that combines can't fail is also a huge plus. As far as I know you can't make anything purely from vendor bought stuff, combine it and sell it back for a profit. You can however combine materials that you find with some vendor bought items and improve the sell value of it all and cover the cost of the vendor stuff. The only problem with tradeskills is that sometimes it seems like the over abundance of crafted items devalues them, well that and most of them are inferior to easily obtainable items on the AH for the level.

Im a lvl 34 rogue and have never lost to any mage...unless it was a big gank with like 5 of them..as far as i'm concerned the rogue is an anti-mage class and mages are very easy to kill...
all I do is sneak up on them, Ambush them build up some combo points while keeping em stunned....also i use kick every time it cools down...

quick note: money problem solved.  been smashing Murlocs in the wetlands with my new spells.  evens go down in 4 nukes, sometimes 3.  it's insane.  also, after my re-spec i'm insanely more efficient.  the 10% clearcast chance seems to go off every other encounter, so i'm saving mana left right and centre.  plus i have evocation now, which gives me a full mana bar every 10mins if i need it.   combine this with my new spells & suddenly my little man is walking a little taller, y'know?

Granted there are times when you can get lucky and kill a mage outright because of the low their low hp. But even in a case where a rogue ambushes a mage they should be able to frostnova and then blink away, or just blink away if it's too close to risk nova'ing. Once frozen the rogue is easily sheeped and the mage can use a bandaid to heal up and use pyroblast or firebal depending on what he's got. Follow with a scorch or two and fireblast and the rogue should be near dead, nova and blink again if you can and finish em off. The only time a competent mage should get hit in a fight with a rogue is if the rogue gets the drop on them at the start. Though a rogue with engineering could do some stuff to seriously throw anyone off regardless of class.

What were your talents like before you respec'd est? Have you gotten your Improved Arcane Missles and Improved Arcane Explosion yet? I rarely remember to use Evocation but it has saved my bacon a couple times. And Clearcasts are awesome. A good strategy in groups is to use Scorch and Fireblast a lot and whenever you get a clearcasting state hit arcane missles for tons of free damage.

Frost nova is the damage + slow movement one, right?

Well, any rogue worth his salt and over lvl22 knows that Vanish instantly removes all movement impairing effects, as well as a 10sec uberstealth.  This can allow the rogue to get back over to the mage and do some kicking.  There's a long cooldown on it, but if you can get back over and hit em with a Cheap Shot (4sec stun, 2 combo points) while still stealthed and get another one or two SS or BSs in it shouldn't matter, especially after 30 when you get Kidney Shot for combo-finishing stun.  Kick has a relatively short cooldown too, 10sec, especially taking into account the stun-lockdown strategy.  I'm going combat rogue with (eventually) mace spec and hopefully will be a stunning machine, and thanks to my handy new instant-weapon-swap macro I can gouge for stun, swap weapons while running behind them, backstab and swap back to high-damage weapons for big eviscerate and SS hits and higher overall DPS.

Frost Nova is a minor damage AE with a root affect and a 25 second cooldown. The cool down is bad but you don't usually need it more than once or twice anyways in a fight. Vanish is good but if the mage has Instant cast Arcane Explosion(arcane based AE with no cooldown timer) it won't get you close. The one thing I had forgotten that could be seriously bad though is, I think Gnomes get an additional movement affect removal ability though I can't remember what the cooldown on it is like. Anything you can do to keep a mage in melee is going to help you win more easily. It's just that if you don't pull it off on the first melee attempt you are not likely to get a second attempt.

I think Cone of Cold is the spell you are thinking of that is damage plus a snare, it's a directional cone AE on a 10 second cooldown.

Haeze is now up to 46 (Can we say UBER ?!).

Not only is Rogue VERY anti-Mage, but they are anti-any caster.  

Also, I am putting most of my combo points into Combat, with a few in assassination for added crits.  Cool thing about my ability tree is now I am ALSO anti-group, and anti-melee character.  If someone isn't a hunter or a dual-weild rogue/warrior, I can kick the crap out of them... Why ?  Two abilities on my tree.... The one you guys know about is the "Kick" that cancells spells, reducing casters to their slow staves or low-damage wands and cloth armour... not a problem to kill them.  But I also have an ability called "Riposte" which allows me to disarm my opponent after parrying their attack, which happens all the time because I added 5 points to my parry ability.  Paladins are left to swinging fists at me while I dance around them slashing every last appendage of theirs off.  I also got another ability called "Blade Flurry" which when active, makes my attack speed 20% faster, AND any damage I do to my target, it does the SAME damage to ALL enemies near him !  It isn't uncommon for me to take down a group of 4 mobs all my level, all at once and still have half my life when they are all dead.  Also, with all those points in Combat, I am critting for up to 860 damage with a daggar... not even using swords.  And with Instant Poison IV I am adding about 70+ damage to almost every 5th hit.  I am just RAINING damage on these poor saps.

Jeph... my biggest suggestion for you once you hit about Lvl 40 ?  Got to Scarlet Monastery !  There is a Daggar you get there from one of the quests called "Black Menace" that is 1.4 speed (fast as hell) and has a chance on hit to do about 50 extra damage to your opponent... like built in poison, and you can ALSO stack your poison on top of it.  With it in my main hand I have hit 3 times with a single swing of that daggar, my poison, it's ability, and it's regular hit.  That is just MEAN !

Oh, I also picked up my Mechano-strider a while back, and it is so bad-ass !  I can't imagine walking anywhere anymore !  I will have more pics up here soon !

Where am I now ?  I am soloing the Searing Gorge mining Mithril and Thorium.  My Mining is up to 278, and my Engineering is up to 293.  I have my own Mithril Mechanical Dragonling to help me kill baddies, and I am generally enjoying life

By the way, Est, if you really are a trade-skill whore, I have found the ultimate money-maker !  At 280 Engineering I am now able to make something called a "Green Lens"... It has awesome plusses and such and can be made for next to nothing in materials as long as you can find Wildvine, but can only be used by engineers, so it doesn't sell all that well... BUT  My friend who is an enchanter disenchanted one and we found out they have a 100% drop of a Large Radiant Shard.  Anyone who is an enchanter knows this is their +1 money making item since it is used in the Greater Striking Enchant that EVERYONE wants.  Those shards sell for nearly 6g each in the AH, and I make these lenses, and subsequently shards, for approx 2g in materials.

awesomes.   i'll have to keep that in mind for later, as i have both an engineer and an enchanter.  i can even get the 8 thick leather for it from my skinner for free, so that should help cut costs

on the gnomish Mage front, i am happy to report that i spent a bit of time in the AH a couple days ago, updating my gear.  i raised my hp/mana from 483/1403 to about 600/1600 with a few stragetically-selected upgrades.  plus i got a black swashbuckler's shirt  tres sexy!

i am 24 now, talents re-specced to 5xImproved Arcane Missiles, 5xConcentration, 1x Evocation & 4x Improved Fireball.  i already know where my next 6 points are going: 1 last point in Imp Fireball, then 5 into Imp Arcane Explosion  fun fun fun.   looks like i'll be going fire/arcane at least until about 40, then seeing how things go from there.

hehe Rogues are anti everyone because hey are high DPS. They are just inherently disadvantaged against a mage because mages have no reason to ever get hit by a rogue other than the initial contact, if the rogue gets the drop on the mage. There are just to many ways for a mage to avoid melee combat. The only problem mages have with paladins is that even with two full bars of mana they can't over come the healing of a pally.

This is my one niggling complaint about the game- all the best gear is in instance dungeons that I don't have time to do! Arrgh!

The fact that they take so long and that they are a royal PITA is why I limit myself to only being dragged into one or two instances a week. At this point my hunter blows through an entire bag of ammunition pretty easily inside a couple hours of doing an instance.  Each stack of ammo takes two mithril bars and four solid stones. Those supplies are not replaced while in the instances for the most part and in the rare instance that there are mithril nodes I usually have to compete with others for them. Then there is that I have yet to see anything drop in an instance that benefitted my class, that I couldn't have gotten off a random mob. I think once you get to the 50's it might be worth purposely doing certain instances to get specific gear but until then you outgrow gear so fast it's not worth the wasted time in my opinion. And people constantly proclaim them as beeing a good place to make cash while I barely broke even on repairs this evening from my uldaman run, which was enough below me I got exp off maybe 15% of the mobs I killed.

Yeah, before I joined I read up on the RP realms, and several people on the WoW forums had posted that FeatherMoon was the best. I chose Earthen Ring though because its East coast. So far my experinces have been good. Most of the players I have spoken with in game have played in character, and have been pleasant. Also, haven't seen any players running around with names like "l33td00d" or anything. Hopefully it stays that way as I advance and venture out into the more advanced areas of the game.

I just got my Agility for Haeze up to 227, mining to 291, and Engineering to 298.  Level 47 now.

And Instances are where the fun is in that game !  Getting a good group together an overcoming these huge obstacles is awesome  My next stop looks to be Zul'Farrak... Yummy !

On another note, I now have a talent point in the top of the Combat tree, meaning I have Adrenaline Rush... for 15 seconds my Energy regen is TWICE as fast !  Bitchin !  Not to mention all the critting I am doing now with Agression.

I have figure out what my final talent build will be... It is specialized to help with the groups I constanly play in, as opposed to making a solo character.

My average DPS in Uldaman tonight ?  505.3 !

Finished off Scarlet Monastary, got my Black Menace, and hit lvl38 while I was at it!



The big dagger is my afforementioned Black Menace, and I also managed to pick up a Ziggler at the auction house tonight as well. Woot!

Ziggler carried me all the way through Level 47, but now I got a Vorpal Dagger of the Tiger  (Faster, more damage, and agility/strength buffs).  I have to admit, though, I will miss the "*BAM* Crackle-fizzle-skrak" noise and ball of electricity the ziggler throws at them.

I wish the plans for the Ebon Shiv didn't require you to complete the Scholomance quests to get them !  I mean a level 46 dagger and you need to complete a Level 62 quest to get their plans, which are bind-on-pickup so you can't even sell them to someone who can use them ?!  What a dumb idea !  Now the only use for those plans is for Level 60 people to make money selling the daggers, only they use ore that is mined in Level-40sville, where the 60s couldn't arse themselves to hang out and mine.  Argh !  Throw those plans someplace useful, like the end of Uldaman.

Me and my buds just completed Uldaman last night.  I mean, sure, I thought I had finished it before and all I needed was this green quest for gems... that is until I got those gems and was told I needed a power core for the necklace.  Holy HECK was the final end guy to Uldaman HUGE !  There was also this kick-ass chamber after we killed him that had a Time-Machine-esque Mainframe-ish thing that told all about the history of the dwarves on this world and even hinted at the fact that there are others like it that will teach you the origins of the other species on the world.  Such an awesome addition to the game.  As usual, I have a couple screenshots of it that I will post up when I get home.

Also, I went poking around in Thotbott looking for what armor I wanted to replace my Nightscape set, and have decided that I will start collecting Wicked Leather armour as I find the plans for my Leatherworking guildmate.  But while I was looking those up I found an even better chestpiece that I had to quest for (which is why I fought those 2 Level 50 Elite dragons in the screenshot above).  I recommend each and every rogue around level 46-54 get the Blazewind Breastplate from the quests in Badlands !  I have not seen anything CLOSE that I can wear for another 8 levels.  It is 148 armor, +3 Strength, +5 Stamina, and +23 (!!!!) Agility !

On another note... Only one more day !!!! (ARGH !)  I went farming in Felwood for something called Felcloth, which is one step above Runecloth, and is the major component of something called a Mooncloth Bag (16 slot baybee !)  Problem is, it takes 2 Felcloth, and my Tailor friend can make a Mooncloth... but to make it into Mooncloth, he needs to purify those two Felcloth in a Moonwell, then wait 4 DAYS to make another !  Damnit !  So yeah, one more day and he can make the second Mooncloth my Mooncloth bag requires !  Yay !  And on the note of bags... Finishing the Uldaman quests gave me a 14 slot !  It is to the point my bags even cover up my compass with the UI set to super small mode at 1280x1024 !  Yikes !

Lol yeah I have had all runecloth bags for awhile on my hunter and of course twinked my mage with the same when I started him. The one sad thing abotu that though is that the only upgrade I have to look forward to now for bags is mooncloth and those will take forever to make.

I am just sticking with Mageweave and skipping straight to Mooncloth.  I don't really think I am even supposed to be getting Mooncloth bags this early

Hehe yeah mooncloth is one of those "I'm sixty and bored" type of things to grind for I think. I need to get away from playing my mage and level my hunter up to sixty before I am forced to take a break in a couple months. Maybe that'd give one of my friends enough time to level up his druid so that we can go and do some AE grouping.

Nah, I am grinding the Felcloth that is used to make Mooncloth at level 47 (Started doing it at 46).  I figure by the time I am 60 I will be using all my spare time for stuff like Scholomance, Winterspring, Blackrock Spire, and some serious Raiding.  I will have no time to go fight lowly level 50s to get felcloth, only to wait 4 days for 2 of them to turn into 1 Mooncloth, only to wait another 4 days for another.  I have better things to do with my game time

Of course, if you have a good leatherworker, he can make you some 16 slotters as well

Ahh ha, I was not aware that leatherworking could also make 16 slotters. I usually do a lot of questing instead of grinding, and I can't stand most instances for long. That leads to me picking up lots of tradeskill stuff like the various cloths in the course of normal play.

If I remember correctly it was some kind of backpack.

And I actually prefer instances.  Just last night I stealthed through the entire Scarlet Monastery picking pockets to build up my pick-lock skill.  The sheer number of enemies per square foot is awesome, not to mention the fact that most of them will stand still in instances, unlike out in the open, where they like to wander.  Not to mention the loot is cooler, the enemies are more interesting, and the groups you get involved with add a really awesome HUMAN dynamic to the game.

The mob density in instances is good in some ways but just plain annoying other times when you have a regular pickup group that isn't any good at handling more than two mobs at a time. Unfortunately most of the human aspect added to the game in the groups I have been in is just frustrating and not of benefit to anyone. Loot does definitely drop more frequently but then again the melee characters benefit form that much more than the ranged classes. Due to not having a chance to loot most times unless it's on round robin. I guess I just need to find a group of people that have similiar play habits. Most people I know in RL that play are too slow in advancing their characters so I outpace them rapidly. Once I hit 60 though that won't matter as there is nowhere to advance to level wise.
