You don't have to talk with us if you don't want to outside of the text chat window. I mean beer and world conquest is best done via amusing ourselves and others.

did you all agree on a game type (i.e. one city) and all that?  Also I do not have skype installed, it gives my computer heartburns.  Would I still be able to play?  I have never played this with multiplayer, like ever.

That's what I thought the Skype call would have been for.

Does any of you have an Outlook.com E-mail address? Skype works over the web client there.

I don't get why people are whining about the pre-order stuff for Beyond Earth. There's two major camps, as far as I can see.

"Bawww, it's just a bunch of extra maps. Baawww!" It's also 25% off. If they don't want it, I'm sure they'll be happy to pay 10-15 quid extra after release, no?

"Bawww, people are getting extra stuff on launch. I can buy it now but I'll wait until it's inevitably on sale with the pre-order stuff included." I fail to see how this is any different form buying it now and them waiting a year to play it.

Then there are the people that I actually agree with, the ones that can't buy it now and will either have to wait for a bundle or buy the maps as DLC. There don't seem to be many of these.

There's a Steamworkshop CIV V mod called R.E.D for fighting WW2. Now recruiting players.

The big game today was a lot of fun! We need to switch from skype to something like Ventrillo though... a VOIP that isn't quite such a pain.

Also I need a better mic and head set, I know.

Sorry I couldn't join.  I guess Civ 5 multiplayer is just like that?

Pilchard, even at 25% off, that's more than I usually spend on games.  And Civ games have a horrible reputation for being not good at original launch.  I'm more than happy to wait, and I'm sure if I buy it in the end, I'll get it for more than 25% off.

Besides which, I'm far from done with EU4 at the moment, and it's a deeper game.

-I just cannot figure out EU4.  The interface is less intuitive than Victoria 2 (my favorite paradox game).  I tried playing China just to try and learn the ropes but it is just so different from what I'm used to with paradox games.  Same goes with Crusader kings.

-I've watches some beta plays of Civ:BE and it looks really fun.  I do not get the preorder 25% off of steam (that I can see) but I do plan to get it.  Thinking of waiting until after my birthday just in case I get it for Christmas or my B-day.  The tech tree being a web, turns not being 100s of years, alien hive mind intelligence instead of roving bands of barbarians, The constant "quests" and random decisions for your Civ, and the alien world itself just makes it seem just so amazing.  As one reviewer said "its not a Civ 5 expansion but seems more like a sequel."

-Yeah sorry couldn't play with you all Saturday.  Internet was down like I mentioned earlier.  Then when I went to go get groceries I got a text from my land lord that he wanted to show off the condo the next day.  So I spent a majority of the day cleaning the condo...only for him to cancel 10 minutes before they were to show up the next day.  I kind of have a wacky schedule, especially with Dr. Girlfriend back from Germany, but let me know if you guys try to do it again.  You all should have my steam name.

I haven't even seen Victoria 2, but really loved CK2, and am warming to EU4.  CK2, while I don't have as many hours logged as Civ 5, I think is the best strategy game I've ever played.  It's fun, and sometimes quite funny.

TB's review basically felt that if the sci-fi theme appealed sufficiently to you it was probably worth a purchase.  If not, the game mechanically wasn't different ENOUGH from civ 5 to warrant a purchase at this point.

honestly the sci-fi element is the reason I want the game.

just watched TB's review.  He seems just jilted that its not Alpha Centari.  I do agree that the faceless identities of the different factions is a downer.  The game looks fun but it may be one of those cases (like civ 5) where after some x-pacs it may flesh out the game better.  Honestly I still think I'll get it.

just watching lets play but I thought they were in a live and let live kind of alien

I would say it would be cool if there were different planet types like desert planet or ice planet etc with different alien types and bonuses/drawbacks.

I have a game with a friend that has been going for about two months now - I have three victories in sight (culture, science and diplomatic), when AI Ramesses (who has been bumbling along being constantly attacked by everyone else in all of the rest of the game) adds three parts to his rocket and is too far away to invade easily. -_-

It turns out I have Civ 3 and 4.

We're not going to talk about how many Steam keys I've picked up over the years and sort of forgot about.

I'll have to figure out if I can run them (my graphics card is going down).

Still... potential OPTIONS

It's enough that Steam told me to wait a bit before I redeemed any more.

It's enough that I'll have to do a give-away once I'm done.

True that. But with limited mobility while my foot heals, those visual novels from a couple weeks ago are AWESOME.
