I am, allegedly, 57 today.

This is clearly an error, since if it were possible it would have happened before.

Are you still 57 today?  Then it has occurred before, and so has the ring of truth!

Many happy returns (or "sequential events", since the same birthday never returns except as a polite fiction...)

I am going to a blanket fort party fortuitously scheduled for my birthday.

It is a little odd to know that I am now older than my mother was when she died.

It's my 35th birthday today. A friend congratulated me by stating that I now am closer to my 50th birthday than to my 20th.

I wrote to a friend recently with a "Promise not to laugh" lead-in. I explained that I was going to a cuddle party, but since real ones were impossible I would address the need by picking a time as if it were a meetup and cuddling a giant stuffed dog (my wife was sheltering in another state at the time).

She said that the next time I arranged such a thing, she wanted me to tell her in advance so she could do the same at the same time together in spirit.

Everyone's invited to an imaginary cuddle party for my birthday. It's October 15, 8-9 PM PDT. Timeanddate.com will convert for you. If you want to "attend", snuggle a partner or pet or stuffed animal at that time while reflecting on everyone else doing the same with shared intent.

You should set up an event invite. If you don't I'll put it in my calendar.

PDT is UTC-7, so eight hours behind my time zone (Berlin) - That's four in the morning for me.

I'll try to not-drop by later and think very hard about helping with the dishes.

Eight hours would be right for CET, but we're currently running CEST. So it's a nine hour difference, so 8-9PM PDT is 5-6AM CEST.

If I happen to be awake at that time (senile bed flight kicking in, maybe), I'll do a surrogate cuddle. Blanket or pillow are strong candidates for that.

Thank you for reminding me of this heros birthday.

I did my compulsory military service in the Bundeswehr from 1983 - 1984 in Koblenz and took part in the military exercise Able Archer.

Without Petrovs sane, measured reasoning I might have been dragged into the frontline of a nuclear war, with my home as the battle ground.

I actually forgot how much I own this guy.

Musical background recommendation for the occasion:

Now I better pester some people about appropriate russian drinking songs for his birthday.

In 1983 I was developing software in an office in the same building as a factory producing cruise missiles. I am pretty sure that it it weren't for him I would have become radioactive vapor that day.

My birthday was in August.

Coincidentally, today I learned that I was born almost exactly nine months after the last above-ground nuclear test by the US (a nuclear-tipped Nike missile near the Marshall islands).

Probably just a coincidence.

I’m old enough to remember my Great Grandmother, and even visiting her a few times in my youth.  She was an interesting lady, and while she couldn’t always remember 10 minutes ago, could tell stories about the early 1900s with perfect recollection.
