Great way to boost his ego Amber

And it looks like Amber is all healed up from her recent adventure now.

Well, that explains the no glasses, and just why she can get away with not wearing them.  I wonder how she explained the broken glasses to her mom?

Hmmmm

Would Amber be a Daria fan if she saw it?

She could see it, but it would give her eye strain.

I'm pleased that Danny isn't letting Amber hide behind her mask or superhero metaphors. She nearly died. Her boyfriend has the right to be concerned and want to discuss this.

No it wouldn't be, but Amber has no idea that he's bi, and probably *was* hoping to find out some strange fetish.  Hell, she'd probably be happier if he did, and not crushing on her ex.

This is a watershed moment for Danny and Amber. He's finally realized just how sick his girlfriend is and, to his credit, he isn't running for the hills. A lot now depends on how he expresses himself and whether Amber is able to accept what he is offering her.

When I posted back there, I *hadn't* seen the preview for tomorrow.  Now I have, and I'm afraid that if I were to discuss my rationale now, that would probably leak in to whatever I had to say.  I'm going to have to brush you off for about 24h on this one.

Basically, either Amber is going to run away like the devil himself were at her heels or end up a blubbering mess on Danny's shoulder.

Holy what the hell happened.

The one thing that Amber fears above all else - The little bit of her father's violent and aggressive behaviour that has been wired into her by long exposure came out due to the stress of having to confront Danny not differentiating between her 'Amber' and 'Amazi-Girl' personae. She's terrified of that part of her and is convinced  that it makes the 'Amber' persona inherently unlovable.

She's just generally judgemental and unpleasant. She hates everyone and everything that doesn't fit into her extremely narrow view of her religion. So far this has only manifested as rudeness, scowling, and glares, but primarily only because she has thus far lacked the power to do more.

She also probably knows about Ruth and Billie.

"Knows"? No. She suspects that there's something up but her own personal ambition to rule the floor would have made it impossible for her to stay silent if she knew in any way that would stand up to objective scrutiny. She suspects and is trying to prove but can't do so yet.

FWIW, I suspect that the Ruth-Billie vs. Mary axis will be the centre of their part of this chapter.

The ironic part of today's strip (16/12) is that Sal is interested in Joyce as a friend only when Joyce has reached the point where she is least likely to be able to tolerate Sal's attitude problems.

I don't know, I think Joyce is in a position where she and Sal could be friends now. Both have a massive disillusionment with family and people after having the supposed 'happy childhood/good parents' myth shattered. Sal just had that happen early on, while Joyce is realizing her entire life has been built on a bed of lies.

I think that Sal sees a little of herself in Joyce at this point.
