AFAIK, Ethan and Amber don't have any blood siblings. However, you can't watch their interaction and not immediately realise that they are brother and sister in heart.

Failure to make any romantic connection could be argued as proof that they're happier and fit together better as siblings.

IMO, Willis's older 'default' art style for characters doesn't really lend itself to close-ups.

It is unsurprising to me that Mary doesn't understand why Billie cares, Mary is incapable of caring about anyone other than herself.

That's been coming for a wee while

Billie's been building towards some sort of explosion ever since Ruth was taken in to Hospital.  Mary just happens to be the person that pushed the right buttons to cause Billie to finally explode.

Oof. Mary. Today, you learn that being a shit consistently, is more damning than being a shit on the rare occasion that requires an RA.

Ruth may have been a terrible RA. But you are a terrible human being, Mary. I find it shocking that she thinks she has any support from anyone in the hall. But then I've known so many people convinced of their rightness (and righteousness) that they just can't conceive anyone thinks they are less than absolutely correct. Even when doing horrible things. So... realistic portrayal?

This was a comeuppance that was long overdue for Mary.  She's just had it forcibly impressed upon that she's alienated everyone in the Dorm.

Whether she takes this lesson to heart is another thing though.

I'm starting to get a little skeeved by Becky doing this. It seems cute and harmless because it's just Dina's hat and top of head but it'd be nice if Becky could simply say, "If it's okay, I'd like to see you without your hat because I haven't seen that." instead of repeatedly trying to trick the situation into happening.* It might be a little weird but... It's Becky and Dina? They can handle a little bit of weird.

*I accept that might probably be where this is going anyway and only feels like it's going on a while because of the pacing.

She doesn't have a phobia. Becky just hasn't said 'Hey, can you take off your hat a second'. Remember that Dina doesn't understand social clues. She wouldn't understand that Becky is doing all of this to try and trick her into taking off her hat. She just likes her dino hat and hasn't been given a reason to take it off yet.

I know Dina doesn't have a phobia or concern about taking off her hat, which is part of why it bothers me that Becky hasn't directly asked. Now they're in a class but they were alone earlier. The only thing making it weird, in a bad way, to me is that Becky feels like she needs to use other ways when she has the ulterior motive of "taking the next physical step in the relationship". The next comic Becky is straight up talking about it being sexual to her. In those terms, seems like the kind of thing the people in the relationship should openly talk about instead of forcing it to happen out of context for one of the persons.
Makes me think of situations where Person A has a foot fetish and asks Person B, who doesn't know A has that fetish, for images or contact with Person B's feet. Person A might even say, "What? It's just feet. It's not like I want nudes." Although that's a bit more extreme and there's the benefit of this being two people in a relationship.

I'm not that squicked but I do also hope this resolves soon.

Edit: I realise Neko-Ali's might have been meant for Kugai afterwards. Whoops.

The phobia bit was in answer to Kugai yes. The rest is general unease at the direction Becky is taking this. It's understandable since it's not like either of them have a lot of experience in this area to draw on. And Becky has had some pretty poor samples to draw on.. Which is how this whole thing started.. The idea that you cover up things that are sexual or 'naughty' in nature. Since Dina always wears a hat, the top of her head must be a 'naughty' zone.. The logic is laughable, but what she is doing about it is not though. It's awkward, troubling and bit disturbing. It would be a lot more disturbing if she was trying to catch peeps of some of Dina's other body parts. But the same intent is there.

This is probably just neurotic me in action but my concern is that Dina has some good reason for always covering her head and, if Becky just snatches her hat or something, it's going to end up humiliating and hurting Dina.

P.S.:
Some Forumites who have been around for over a year will remember that the Questionable Content board briefly came under attack by neo-Nazi cartoonist Ben Garrison, who continued to post obscene and violent images under a series of spoof user names until he was finally IP banned. Willis has now also been 'blessed' with this vile creature's attention. I am a little concerned that he made specific reference in his obscene hatepost to Maggie; these people tend to view families as legitimate targets too.

We already know the hat is a sort of security blanket for her. She told Ethan it helps her deal with anxiety, she let him borrow it to help with his.

Maybe he's not comfortable showing he gives a shit in public. You know, like a dude. Joe is big on living up to prototypical male ideals and roles. Perhaps he's okay letting that guard down when it's in private just between the two of them where no one else can see him.

They seemed to be talking in secret so maybe Joe wants their friendliness to stay secret. I don't know if they're necessarily friends or only have a shared understanding about shitty family situations. It seemed to be Joyce who reached out first so Joe mightn't be as comfortable talking to her as she is with him.

Edit: Also yeah, what sitnspin said.

Today's comic (11/5) gives me the mental image of Joe and Joyce in a knock-down, drag-out wrestling match whilst everyone else is listening to Robin speak and acting as if they don't exist.

"Bounce your eyes" is something Joyce has said before and based on the comments seems to be existing "fundie slang" as Willis described it.

I like the claps. In my head it sounds like a fullstop and I've also heard people doing the claps in person, which came first, and it's a very effective way of doing emphasis.

Perhaps but, in the long terms, it may have beneficial consequences by curing Leslie's unsuspected (at least to me) attraction to abusive potential romantic partners.
